Answer: Last time I checked into this, the statistic was that it made no difference. Basically assuming that 40% of people did quick pick, then 40% of those people would win. In other words, it made no difference at all if you did quick pick or not.

Answer: I think if they aren't happy prior to winning then the money really doesn't really make a difference. Also if they are not good with managing money this will only make things worst in my opinion.

Answer: They are completely unprepared for having that much money. They do not know how to manage the money sustain-ably and will often spend virtually all of it on excess. They do not know how to say "no" to all the "family" and "friends" that come out of the wood work asking for help. The first indication that a potential lottery winner will not be able to manage such a windfall successfully is that they select the cash value option, with a large jackpot, the cash annuity payment would be more than enough to take care of any immediate needs and not only will spreading the payments over time save millions in taxes as well as be a reasonable tax deferred investment, it would give them the time to learn how to invest prior to having to do so. By taking the cash value option, they've assured themselves that they will not invest the majority of the money wisely. It's said that all successful people go broke first, almost all millionaires have declared bankruptcy several times in their life. This is not because of a failing in their earning power but because they have some very important lessons to learn about money, they need to learn that they cannot help others more than they can afford to and hence they must be able to say "no", they need to learn that investment is as much about what you don' invest as it is about what you do invest, investments involve risk which means you should never be fully invested. A lottery winner hasn't learned these lessons and hence will likely go broke. Truth is, it doesn't take a lottery win to become a millionaire, you can become rich on a very modest income but you just have to manage your money appropriately.
