FISKER KARMA or Tesla Model S?

Both are similar cars. They are four-door sports cars that use an EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle). They are plug-in luxury sports cars that run on battery power with a small gas engine that charges the batteries when they run down. In your opinion, which one is better? I was not aware that the Tesla would be pure electric. I guess the legal battle between Tesla and Fisker must have confused me.
Answer: You are incorrect - the Tesla Model S does not have a gas engine, it's planned to be purely an electric car. http://www.teslamotors.com/media/press_room.php?id=1539 The Tesla S is really just a pipe dream at the moment, they don't anticipate building them until late 2011 (see link above), which means you won't see in until 2012 at the soonest, where the Karma is planned to ship next year. They are both gorgeous looking, but neither are sports cars, they are luxury sedans. So - which is better? I'd have to vote for the Fisker for two reasons, the onboard gas engine gives you more flexibility, and it's going to be around sooner.

Answer: I like both. Both are unique, both are sophisticated, both are good cars. The Fisker is better looking, the Porsche is more practical. Neither one is "overrated". It come down to, do you want to have to plug in the Fisker every 50 miles? Or would you rather just fill up the porsche with petrol and keep going. The Fisker karma is almost a step backwards when you think about it. if you have multiple cars, get the Fisker karma. If this will be your primary car, get the Porsche Panamera.

Answer: Heat shortens battery life, cold reduces the available power while cold. Lithium Ion batteries are very sensitive to heat and they produce heat when discharging or charging. Lithium batteries are best discharged slowly as rapid discharging and charging would heat them too fast. Also Lithium batteries last the longest when they are only 50% charged which is why new batteries are at 50% charge when you get them. The best thing to do for Lithium batteries is to keep them at the 50% charge level and stored in a refrigerator when not in use. Interesting thing about Lithium Ion batteries is that they permanently loose maximum capacity over time regardless of whether or not you use them. So keep your little car in the refrigerator and don't charge it all the way. You do realize that even if recharged by solar panels, an electric car is only carbon neutral yet it takes 113 million BTU's of energy to make any new car so an electric car would never amortize the carbon footprint of it's manufacturing. However if synthetic gasoline and diesel are made by biomass gasification and Fischer Tropsch synthesis, every conventional car that uses the synthetic fuel would be carbon negative as some of the carbon is sequestered with the ash. So you can harm the environment by buying an electric vehicle or you can help the environment by buying a second hand car and supporting synthetic fuels from biomass. Even supporting coal to liquid and gas to liquid synthetic fuels would be a step forward because the Fischer Tropsch reactors of these plants can be fed from biomass gasifiers just as they are from coal and natural gas gasifiers so converting them to biomass use in the future would be less expensive then building whole new biomass to liquid plants. In some cases, the gasifiers themselves can be modified for biomass gasification.

Honest opinions on the hybrid karma car by fisker automotive?

Answer: I highly doubt anyone on here owns one, not because of cost but because of its exclusivity in terms of production availability. Its pretty hard to get your hands on one, I actually think there is a list in order to purchase one. I have yet to see one on the road but if I had the chance or the money to buy one I wouldn't mind owning one at all. I'm not really thrilled at the fact that its a hybrid even though it composes an impressive 403 HP engine, but I find the design very appealing, it actually looks a lot more expensive then what its sells for in my opinion, it has the exotic $300,000 car look. I would say its MSRP of $87,900 is extremely reasonable when you consider that the Porsche Panamera Hybrid and Mercedes S-class Hybrid start at well over $90,000. Karma Fisker is a new brand especially here in the States so in terms of reliability, handling and so forth we do not know the over all or long term specs in order to critique the brand. Although you can get some other luxury Hybrids at half the price like the 2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid at an MSRP of $54,575 with almost the same output of power at 360 horsepower however the difference is the Infiniti M35 hybrid has an estimated MPG of 27 city/ 32 Highway while the Karma Fisker has an incredible combined 67 MPG. Basically, yes I like it. =)

Who is the main competitor of the new Fisker due out in 2009 and do you think the car will be in high demand?
Answer: Everyone might want one (I certainly would own one), but at $80,000 there will be a lot of dreamers left twisting in the wind. But don't be surpised if they sell out the first year by people who have the money to burn. I'm not sure there is a direct competitor for the Karma yet. The closest competition in the premium hybrid segment might be the 2008 Lexus 600h. But it has a V8 hybrid system which makes it faster than Karma and the the Lexus has more technology gadgets involved overall. And the Lexus will start at a hefty $104,000. The Lexus looks great, but the Karma's appearance will stand out over anything on the road up to this point. But if anything, the Karma shows us that a hybrid car can be very stylish and fast.

Answer: Der generator is always makin 175kW. Der electric motors are usin 300kW when its floored. U ever tried to take a 400hp car and leave it floored? Ill answer that for you no you haven't, you'd be dead. A car takes between 1 and 4 horsepower to coast. (.7-3kW.)
