What is something the RED WINGS might do to beef up their team?

i know the Red wings have a good team but their are some pieces missing. I was thinking they should get a veteran guy like shanahan.
Answer: No, I don't think we need Shanahan. Franzen and others can do his job well. Marian Hossa is somewhat of a loss but there are plenty of other players CURRENTLY on the Wings that are capable of taking his place. If there is something Detroit needs badly it's goaltending. Who knows how well Osgood is going to stay with us and besides he is only average...nothing special. Detroit has so much support for their goalie. If we get a solid young goalie we're on our way to another trip to the finals. Also, Detroit really needs more defense man. I know we have Nick Lidstrom and he's great but we need more people. Against Pittsburgh, their speed really hurt is. We need people like Helm who are speedy defenseman who can take and give out hits. As for the offense I think we're set but it would never hurt to get more young fast guys like Helm. Overall we need more speed as a whole on our team. We get Helm and look how well he did. We need speed and maybe a little bit of toughness. As for hockey talent, I think we're loaded with it. Datsyuk is a play maker. I don't care how many people say he's useless in the playoffs because he's not. His shots just didn't go in and he didn't exactly take so many. He set up other players and his style of play leads to opportunities. Also, Zetterberg who is locked up for 10 years is perfectly fine and he is a mix of a goal scorer and a play maker. (Don't forget Franzen). I think we need faster players and more defensemen who are young. I know this sounds horrible because Chelios has been with us for a while but we need to trade him for money or a young person because he's just getting old and he's viable to make mistakes. He was good when we had him but now he's too old. Also, I think we should get rid of Conklin. He is also an average goal and in Pittsburgh he was a nobody. I think Detroit needed a back up so they just got another goalie. We need to start developing a SUPER STAR GOALIE. I'm tired of seeing goalies like Osgood, Legace, or Conklin. We need a goalie who is all-star game material. A new young Hasek would be perfect.

How many seasons did the RED WINGS go without being shut out?

After two games in a row without a goal, Im trying to remember how many consecutive seasons the Red wings went without being shut out of any games. 6 or 7 was my recollection.
Answer: The Wings were shut-out back to back in the playoffs by Calgary on May 1st and May 3rd, 2004. Then, 143 games later (if my math is correct) they were shut-out by St.Louis on Feb.8th, 2007. So, it was not equivalent to 2 seasons but quite a feat nontheless. If you just include regular season games (the Calgary SO's were in the playoffs) then you can add 38 games making it 181 reg. season games. For the purpose of the calender, it seems like more but there was a season missed due to the lock-out in there (the 04-05 season).

Why in the world would the Red wings get rid of Matthew Schnieder and then get Brian Rafalski. The only reason I can see them doing that is because Rafalski is younger
Answer: I'm going to miss Schneider too. He's one of the truly great defenseman in the NHL. He plays great D and has a cannon from the blueline. I'll especially miss him on the power play. However, there are a few possibilities as to why he left: A) He left to be closer to home (SoCal). B) He left for more money from the Ducks (I doubt it.) This is most likely Mathieu's last high-paying contract though. At 38, he wants to set himself financially for his retirement, and although it's not likely, Aneheim might have offered a slightly significant more amount of money. C) I've heard a few rumors going around about players not wanting to play for Babcock, stressing his intensity and treatment of star players. That's something they were talking about on 1270am yesterday, and you can't rule it out. Fedorov couldn't stand Babcock as a coach in Aneheim. Look on the bright side though. Rafalski was a good pickup. He played in a system in New Jersey that was more conservative than even the Wings system in the 90's under Bowman, and Brian still was a major point-producer. What this means is that he's going to be given more offensive freedom here in Detroit and the opportunity to put up possible career-highs in points. Signing him for $6M/year is a bit much, but I think we're going to be set on the blue line with Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Chelios, Markov(?), Lebda, Lilja, and Quincey. Now, hopefully we turn our interest over and sign a power forward.

Answer: Red wings are becoming more physical. The younger guys are definately more physical. Kopecky, Meech, Ellis,Filppula....but come on? Drake will hit, Franzen will hit, Downey will hit, Cleary will hit. But they dont play a style condusive to real physical play. They are a puck control team. Most physical? Not even close. They are middle of the road as far as physicality. Better than the last few years, but not quite what I would want. Clearly, the Wings dont play dump and chase, which takes out some of the physical aspect of the their team game.

Answer: As others said, 19 years, Longest Streak in ALL Professional sports in North America. ....and as for "getting into the playoffs doesnt mean anything, and It only matters how you exit the playoffs", I think winning 4 Stanley Cups within an 11 year time span says a lot about how the Wings have played in the playoffs. ..and to add to that, regular season standings don't mean anything. It's Hockey, anything can happen once you have made the playoffs. Any seed can win, 1st,2nd,3rd, all the way to 8th.

What game and who scored on the RED WINGS?

There was this weird goal back in the 1990s when the Red wings won the Stanley Cup where (I think) it was Fedorov who shot the puck towards the opposing side, the puck hit the boards in back and slowly rolled into the net. It was considered a goal too. Awesome goal by accident but I forget who it was against and who actually scored it. Any ideas? Thanks!
Answer: I believe it was against Jimmy Waite of the Phoenix Coyotes. It was definitely against the Coyotes though. On that goal, Fedorov dumped the puck around the opponents net from center ice. The puck hit something wierd behind the net and the puck deflected toward the goalie and proceeded to bank into the net off his skate. The puck was in the net before the goalie knew what happened.

Answer: I love the Wings style of play. They play with efficiency, almost like a machine. They rarely take cheapshots, and even rarer fight. Pavel Datsyuk, and Zetterberg are two of the most fun players to watch in the NHL. With a team like this that exudes so much class, it's no wonder Lidstrom is the captain.

Answer: I think that the Detroit Red wings have been a great team this year. What really stands out to me is that they are 20-2-1 on home ice! Wow 20-2-1 at home, that's something special. And yes when Lidstrom retires I don't think they will have a problem filling his spot. The Red wings are known to always be a competitive team, and even when Lidstrom leaves, I wouldn't expect that to change for a long time. Currently- I'm interested in seeing how Jimmy Howards injury affects them.

Answer: awesome comeback after Hasek did his wonderfull stunt... That man needs to learn to stay in net.....I went CRAZY when Datsyuk made his back hander......... I just missed Cleary's goal when I was catching some of the Pistons game..... I turned back and caught the replay so that took some excitement away for me not seeing it in real play. Zetterbergs goal was awesome too..... I hope they put effort in at San Jose and not play scared in the first period like the previous 2 games....

Answer: Yes, I hate Huds a lot right now, but theres just no value in trading him away. They way he's been playing won't fetch anywhere close to his potential in a trade. Babs should bench him for a bit and get his blood boiling because he is one of our most offensively gifted players, comparable to our 2nd liners. Trading away Rafalski is just a boneheaded move; he is a little overpaid, but he's so productive and the pairing of Ericsson-Rafa is looking great. The Big E has finally found his game again. We paired our defensemen with one offensive-minded player on one end and a defensive-minded player on the other. A power forward doesn't fit into the Wings skilled puck-control style of play. Our "power forwards" are really guys who screen the goalie and we have the best in the game: Holmstrom. Cleary, Bertuzzi, Franzen also do a great job, and our fourth line is the grinder line. Anyone who thinks we can get a 2nd line player or better is dreaming. I wouldn't want to split up the team even if we somehow pull it off. The Wings have never been big movers in the season; Holland and management know what they're doing. I honestly like our team how it is. The only possible move I like is getting a good defenseman prospect to replace Lids when he eventually retires. That said, it really isn't necessary because the cap space cleared by Lids will be enough to find a top defenseman (obviously no one can replace him).
