The 17 year old did not have a weapon and he was trying to get away from a 28 year old who is more than 100 pounds heavier than him. The witnesses also said that they believe that Zimmerman was guilty and it was not self defense. They didn't directly see everything that occured, but they heard everything. Also, two female witnesses said that they saw that Zimmerman was on top of the teenager. What was zimmerman's perceived self defense? What was he trying to defend himself against? Candy and iced tea?

Answer: At this point I'm thinking voluntary manslaughter. If you listen to the 911 tapes it is clear he is following Treyvon BUT clearly/truly thought Treyvon was up to no good. Also, he was CLEARLY told not to follow Treyvon by the dispatcher but Zimmerman ignores this (you can hear the wind in the background as he's driving and he refuses to give an address at this point in the call because he doesn't know where he'll end up since he IS following Treyvon). Also worth addressing is the point that, to me, Zimmerman definitely says "f*ckin punks" on the phone and NOT "f*ckin c*ons". To me it seems like Treyvon was walking along, Zimmerman thought he looked suspicious, Treyvon ran either because he was up to no good or because he was scared, Zimmerman was told not to follow him but didn't listen, he caught up with Treyvon, a fight ensued that DID NOT need to occur (who initiated it and for what reason I do not know) and ultimately Zimmerman killed Treyvon. From what is thus-far known, voluntary manslaughter seems to me the most likely conviction.

Answer: To begin, neighborhood watch means just that: watch - call the police if you see someone commiting a crime - don't confront them. That Zimmerman chose to strap on a gun and chase someone down the street because he didn't recognize them invalidates his self defense claim, I don't care what Florida law says. I doubt a jury would find him guilty of capital murder because that would require proving he planned it, so no he shouldn't be tried on a charge that he can be found not guilty of. Legally he should be charged with manslaughter. In my eye for an eye mind though, he should be hunted down unarmed like an animal and shot down in the street.
