Can an ALBATROSS fly for 10 years without landing?
My friend says an Albatross can fly for 10 years without. Landing at all so just flying. So I had a bet with him that this is not true, he showed me this link but I dont think it proves his point:
please answer this question!
Answer: No this is not true, They can live out in the sea for many years - only coming in once every few to mate, but they do land. More than a few days of non-stop flying would probably kill it. There would be no benefit for it to never land.
The longest consistent flight is held by the godwits and consisted of about a weeks journey.

What larger a Wandering ALBATROSS or a Andean condor?
For several months I thought the andean condor was the largest flying bird. But then I hear its one of the largest birds. And look up Largest flying bird. And get Wandering Albatross. So whats bigger and witch could win in a fight ( Optional ).
Not just wingspand try to include wingspand, weight, height etc.
If none of them is the biggest what is.
Answer: Actually the Ostrich is the largest bird. If you are talking about flying birds there are a couple of different ways to measure. If you are talking about the heaviest flying bird its the Kori Bustard of Africa. It can weigh up to 42lbs. If you are talking about the longest wing span, the longest ever measured was a Wandering Albatross with a wing span of 11'11". Andean Condor is a close contender, as is Royal Albatross.

Where does the Waved ALBATROSS originate?
I am doing a biology report, and I know that the Waved Albatross currently lives in the Galapagos Islands, but I do not know where it originially came from.
Can someone please describe for me its evolutionary history? Please only factual answers and 10 points to best answer. Thank you.
Answer: It is highly speculated that the Waved Albatross is actually a descendant of a very similar species. Remains from the previous species have been found in New Zealand (early Oligocene) and Uzbekistan (Middle Eocene). The names for the species in the respective regions are Manu and Murunkus. (It's still being determined if these species are exactly the same or just really close relatives. The Waved Albatross would be a direct descendant of one or the other, -if- they are not in fact the same type of bird).
I hope this helps.

a man eats an ALBATROSS sandwich and shoots his best friend?
This is a riddle i learned but cant figure out the answer. Do u guys no what it is? He walks into a bar and orders an Albatross sandwich and goes out and kills his best friend after taking one bite of the sandwich. Why does he do this?
Answer: The man had been stranded on a deserted island with his best friend - there was some kind of plane crash, or their ship sunk, and there were dead bodies from the other accident victims lying around the island.
His friend would make him "Albatross sandwiches" so they could survive - but really, what the friend was doing was cooking the bodies of the other victims and making sandwiches, turning them both into cannibals.
When the man gets his first real Albatross sandwich in the bar, and it doesn't taste like the ones he had on the island, he realizes that his friend turned him into a cannibal, and he goes to kill his friend.
It's a long way to go, but that's the way I heard the riddle...

How long would fisheries be shut down if too many ALBATROSS are killed?
I know that if X Short Tailed Albatross are brought onto long liners as accidental by-catch, the fisheries will shut down. Would only long lining be shut down? How long would they be shut down?
Answer: Read the long poem "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Coleridge. Because the Alatross was killed for food then bad luck struck the sailing ship. The ship got stuck in the doldrums and, "Water water everywhere and how the boards did shrink, water water everywhere and not a drop to drink".

Is there a parallel between the ALBATROSS and the boat in Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner?
In Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner is forced to wear the Albatross around his neck after he kills it, as a physical representation of the burden of sin he carries. Later in the poem, the Albatross sinks "like lead" into the ocean when he repents for his sins. Some time later, the Mariners boat also "sinks like lead" into the ocean; is there a parallel between the sinking of the Albatross and the sinking of the boat?

Summary
Three young men are walking together to a wedding, when one of them is detained by a grizzled old sailor. The young Wedding-Guest angrily demands that the Mariner let go of him, and the Mariner obeys. But the young man is transfixed by the ancient Mariner's "glittering eye" and can do nothing but sit on a stone and listen to his strange tale. The Mariner says that he sailed on a ship out of his native harbor--"below the kirk, below the hill, / Below the lighthouse top"--and into a sunny and cheerful sea. More…

Why does the ALBATROSS fly so far from its nesting site to find food for its chicks?
Just heard great program on NPR about plight of the Albatross based on a National Geographic article.
Program mentioned that the Albatross often flies over 1,000 miles to get food for its chicks.
Here are my dumb questions:
1. Why doesnt it nest closer to a food source?
2. Is this a recent phenomenon brought about by habitat distraction?
3. Have they always done this?
Answer: well i'm not sure but it may be to protect the young, i think if they were gathering the food so close to the nest predators would catch on so it is most likely they fly far away to confuse the bad guys
