Is Illinois coach BRUCE WEBER overrated or is it just me?

He inherited some great talent a few years ago and did well with that but he has not been able to recruit well or make "his" players better.
Answer: I think he is probably a little overrated. Its not his fault he inherited all that talent though. The Big Ten is a lot better than the MVC though, so i would give him a few more years and he will probably come around.

If a company shows us enough good-looking, half-naked young jocks wearing their products—or not wearing their products—we will buy their t-shirts, jeans, hoodies, socks, kitchen magnets, whatever. And for long as the company keeps market their products to us with boy tit (get that Bruce weber guy in to shoot your ad campaign!), the gay shopping zombies will treat your company right. You would think, of course, that these boy-tit-flashing companies would recognize their dependance on the gay consumer and treat the gays right. Somehow despite their thoroughly homoerotic—and thoroughly effective—ad campaigns, Abercrombie & Fitch doesn’t feel like it needs to treat the gays right. Human Rights Campaign, a GLBT rights group, assesses corporations for their friendliness to gay and lesbian employees and consumers, looking at things like anti-discrimination protections, domestic partner benefits, and advertising practices. And HRC gives A&F a dismal 50 out of a possible 100 in their annual “Buying for Equality” guide. It can’t be that hard to get a perfect score from HRC: Gap, Levi Strauss, Nike, Nordstrom, and Sears—Sears!—all pulled in perfect 100 ratings. As much as I wish it were not the case, I doubt the news that A&F treats its gay employees like shit will matter much to the kind of gay men who wear A&F. The company markets to gay male consumers using the mystique of the impossibly beautiful, completely unattainable, likely hostile-to-homos straight boy. Internalized homophobia and thwarted longing infuses A&F’s marketing materials; some have featured “playful” and implied male-on-male gang rape. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that—so long the rape is just implied and, you know, playful and stuff.) But the guys in the ads are all exuberantly heterosexual—there’s usually a strategically placed girl, or a part of a girl, somewhere in the frame. (Can you spot the female?) These naked A&F boys are only comfortable naked around each other because the A&F boys in the ads are not just equally and impossibly beautiful, but equally and impossibly heterosexual. So they can safely romp naked in their locker rooms, lacrosse fields, and pastures—boxer shorts slung around their necks—because no upsetting male-on-male desire exists in the A&F universe. These guys aren’t sex objects to each other. They’re buds, and they’re safe around each other—a little assgrabbing won’t be misunderstood. Gay guys who wear A&F want to identify with that care- and homo-free universe. (Many of us copped a few feels in it before we came out.) It’s not they want to live in a world without homos—they do not—but because they at least want to look like they could live there. They want to believe that they, too, are impossibly beautiful enough and straight-acting enough to pass. For these guys, I’m afraid, news of the A&F’s anti-gay business policies will only reinforce the appeal of the brand. HRC wants us all to know that no self-respecting gay guy would wear A&F. We already know that, however, and that’s precisely why we wear it.
Answer: I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree with your rant. Obviously, A&F is very concerned about marketing to ALL customers. I'm sure the corporate office took the Human Rights Campaign rating very seriously, and will be reviewing company policies. Very few companies can afford to pay the price of prejudice, and that includes retailers like A&F. I'm sure policy change is imminent. That being said, I am an A&F associate, and the anti-discrimination policy was one of the first things I was made aware of when hired. I have never been discriminated against for my sexual preferences, nor have any of my fellow employees. In fact, I would be surprised if it has ever come up. We have some gay/non-heterosexual associates at my store, and they are treated no differently than anywhere else. I am sorry if that is not the case at every store. Managers have quite a bit of leeway with who they do/don't hire. Last I checked, though, being friendly, representative of the brand and attractive were the most important aspects of being hired. As for the advertising, part of 'casual luxury' is explicitly 'sex appeal.' As you may have noticed, that includes suggestive images of both men AND women. While I have yet to see two women posing near-naked/naked with each other, I feel that A&F has made a huge step forward in actually showing just men together... perhaps suggesting that it's OKAY for men to be together without women. As for the models, I am pretty sure they are in no way being exploited, and appear together with other models of their own volition for pay. However, I applaud your willingness to look outside cosmetic concerns about A&F and bring up concerns. I would urge you to bring your concerns in writing to the company directly, so that A&F can become a brand everyone, including gays, would feel comfortable shopping at. Also: the average pair of jeans sells for $70, not $400. Polo shirts tend to be $29.99 or $39.99. I have never heard of a $60 polo shirt. Also keep in mind Ralph Lauren polos are about $60 and Lacoste are $70. $40 is fairly reasonable for a good quality polo.

Should Illinois fire its mens basketball coach, BRUCE WEBER?

Since taking Dee Brown, James Augustine, Luther Head, and Deron Williams to the national championship game in April 2005, Weber has won a total of 1 NCAA tournament game in 5 years (going on 6). Also, he has missed the NCAA tournament twice (one NIT apperance, one sub ,.500 season). Illinois is currently 18-11, and has one tough game left at Purdue, and what should be an easy one at home against Indiana. So, the question is, if Illinois doesnt make the NCAA tournament or loses its first round matchup this year, should Illinois AD fire Bruce weber?
Answer: If Illinois is satisfied being in the middle of the big ten conference then he should have a long career there. However I dont see Weber ever taking them to the level of play that would place them in the top 2 or 3 in the conference consistantly. This year's team has sooooooo much talent, yet they play so inconsitantly. I think one of the best ways of judging a coach is seeing if the team has improved from the start of the year. In the case of Illinois this year there has been little to no improvement, and they are getting beat on a regular basis by teams that should not be able to stay on the floor with them. Therefore I dont think Weber is doing a good job as head coach, so if Illinois is looking for consistant sweet sixteen finishes, they should look elsewhere.

Is there still one out? The reason for my asking is a scenario outlined in Bruce webers book about umpires (I was puzzled by the explanation on page 15).
Answer: The manager can either: 1) take the result of the play as it happened, regardless of the interference. If he does this, sacrifice fly, one out. Probably not a good idea, when compared to Option 2: 2) take the interference penalty. Result, batter is awarded first base, and as the other runners are forced forward, all runners advance one base because they are all forced to advance by the batter's advance. Bases loaded, none out, run scores.

What interests people about BRUCE WEBER & Helen Levitt (photographer) work?

Answer: i borrowed one of helen levitt's book from the library once... i looked at those photos everyday and i'd take a camera, a roll of film and go out in the street and take pictures of random people.. i think it's amazing how she captured images like that in a flat second. it's hard taking pictures of random people running around the street and show their personalities through your picture. often the expression on their faces are the thing that really attracts me. it takes amazing skills to be able to take a picture of a random stranger, capture the emotions and tell his/her story through a camera... you can imagine, these people are usually moving around, they usually feel uncomfortable if they know you're taking their picture, the background is often a mess, you can't control the lighting, etc... you have no control over anything. all you've got is your camera, and the people around you. i'm a huge fan of street photography. you should check out Elliott Erwitt and Robert Frank. I love them both.

I want to be a Fashion Photographer but I also want to do work with some nudity! Kind of like Bruce weber! Do I have to get like a license when Im older to do that?
Answer: In most cities you need a license to run a business. You don't need a license to do artistic photography. A suggested way to start would be to look for a photo day, or club shoot in your area. It is a good chance to get some experience, and to meet potential models. Always treat your models with respect and build your reputation.

I love photoshoots and how amazing stars look in them and how clothes and makeup can change someone into a "character" like a bad girl or a bohemian. I absolutly love high fashion shoots and also how sexy lots of the girls like Hilary Duff can look. I have money-but I dont know how much it costs so that would help-but since Im not famous how would I go about getting photoshoots done. Im talking like Bruce-Weber worthy.
