What kind of car do you think Obama will make us drive??
Hitler Designed the VW bug with Ferdinand porsche So that Members of the newly formed Nazi party could have an affordable car. Every civilian in Nazi Germany was to drive a VW bug. Hitler was socialist what kind of car do you think that Obama will force us drive??
Answer: Oh, we'll be able to drive whatever we want.
There will just be giant "power consumption" and "carbon" taxes on everything everywhere.
That's what these people always do: Nothing actually changes, just giant tax increases so more of our money will go to THEM to redistribute as they see fit, for their own political power schemes.
You would think that the 20th century would have taught people that socialism does not work, but there are still a lot of idiots around I guess.

What was the first road car to use limited-slip differential?
I know Ferdinand porsche used it on a GP car in 1932, but did he use it in the early 356? Or the early 911? Because I found that the Facel Vega HK500 had LSD.
Ive wondered now, all of a sudden, since I thought LSD was new.
Answer: The main reason why manufacturers, to this day, have poured millions into auto racing is that it really is a testing ground for the production car industry; quantum leaps such as disc brakes would have taken decades more to hit the streets if Jaguar had not evaluated them on it's successful C-Type race car.
Getting power from the engine to the wheels of an automobile has provided a seemingly endless challenge for rear-wheel-drive, front-wheel-drive, 4-wheel-drive, front-engine, rear-engine, and mid-engine cars, longitudinal, transverse, vertical, slant, and flat engines, plus an amazing array of hardware in between. George Selden's notorious 1877 patent was for a front-drive carriage with a transverse 3-cylinder engine, anticipating the Chevy/Suzuki Sprint by over a century. When it comes to car designs, there are very few new ideas, just progressively successful adaptations of old concepts.
The heart of the drivetrain is the transmission. Because gasoline engines develop their torque over a very narrow speed range, several gears are needed to reach useful road speeds. (Steam engines and electric motors can be used in cars with no transmissions.)
The modern transmission was introduced by a pair of Frenchmen -- Louis-Rene Panhard and Emile Levassor -- in 1894. The engineers had invited the press to a demonstration of "the most revolutionary advancement to date in the brief history of the motor car industry." Unfortunately, the engine in their demo vehicle died, and they were reduced to giving a chalk talk on multi-geared transmission theory to a bored press corps.
One 19th-century newsman reported their invention as "more hocus-pocus from charlatans trying to cash in on the public's fascination with the new motor car." Maybe the inventors should have skipped the tech talk and just used the description later attributed to Panhard: "It's brutal, but it works!"
Cars of the time transmitted engine power to the wheels in a simple fashion that was easy for non-engineers to visualize. The engine drove a set of bevel reduction gears that drove a shaft and pulley. Leather belts extended between the pulley and geared wheels on an axle. One wheel, the small one, got the car going by meshing with a ring gear on one of the driving wheels. The big wheel then took over to get the car to hustle along at a top speed of 20 mph. If the car encountered a hill that it did not have the power to climb, the driver would come to a dead stop so he could engage the small wheel.
Thus did British auto pioneer F. W. Lanchester describe the transmissions in his cars: "One belt-driven HIGH gear that will go over everything and one bel-driven LOW gear in case the car had to climb a tree."
It was not until a year after their disastrous news conference that Panhard and Levassor regained their reputations. At this time, they had their first car ready for the press to drive. With it, they changed a lot of minds.
That 1895 Panhard-Levassor was revolutionary -- not the transmission alone, but the whole drivetrain layout. In fact, it has served as the prototype for most vehicles built in the 90 years since then. Unlike other cars of that day, it possessed a vertically mounted engine in the front of the vehicle that drove the rear wheels through a clutch, 3-speed sliding gear transmission and chain-driven axle. The only modern features missing from the setup were a differential rear axle and driveshaft. These came along three years later, in 1898, when millionaire-turned-auto-hobbyist Louis Renault connected a vertical engine with transmission to a "live" rear axle by means of a metal shaft.
The live rear axle -- which Renault adapted from an idea developed in 1893 by an American, C. E. Duryea -- was called the differential rear axle. It used a number of gears to overcome the problem of rapid tire wear, which resulted on turns with the "dead" axles used by all other carmakers. "Differential" referred to the ability of the unit to turn the outer driving wheel faster than the inner driving wheel, eliminating tire scuffing in turns.
By 1904, the Panhard-Levassor sliding gear manual transmission had been adopted by most carmakers. In one form or another, it has remained in use until recent times. Obviously, there have been improvements, the most significant being the invention of a synchronizing system that permits drive and driven gears to be brought into mesh with each other smoothly without gear clashing. This system allows both sets of gears to reach the same speed before they are engaged. The first of these synchromesh transmissions was introduced by Cadillac in 1928. An improvement to the design patented by Porsche is widely used today.
Between the time the sliding gear-transmission was introduced and the perfection of the synchromesh, there were other attempts at making it easier for the driver to shift gears. One was the planetary transmission in the 1908 Model T Ford. It had a central gear, called the "sun" gea

Does porsche design the cars the volkswagen group makes?
Porsche is actually an engineering firm, that went into making cars as a sideline. The concept was the company should be run by engineers not by businessmen who were doing what was necessary to increase profits to please the shareholders. As far as I know they have never tried to build a large factory that would crank out thousands of cars, that would have a price low enough to compete with the really popular cars in the market place. I Think the bodies are made by Karmann coachwork and many of the other parts are bought from Volkswagen and various other suppliers. If someone has enough money they hire Porsche to design a car for them. John DeLorean was about to hire Porsche to design his car, but they refused to do the job within the period of time in which he needed the car to be designed. Many other companies have their cars designed by porsche, but this is kept secret. The engineers who worked for volkswagen may have improved on Ferdinand Porches original design, but they failed
Answer: If you go back to the time before the car company existed, there was a consulting firm owned by Porsche that did engineering projects for car companies, governments, etc. After WW2, when the Porsche car company was founded, the former consulting business more of less stopped (though it would resume in other ways years later). As Porsche became a mature company, they often maintained a much larger engineering department than would be normal for the size of their company (however, with recent cutbacks in the last 5 years or so, this is probably no longer true). The large engineering staff allowed them to pursue many production based projects, as well as race projects. To justify the large staff at non-peak times, they would do outside engineering for most all companies (Harley Davidson is probably most notable, which is why they classic Harley has such a similar looking piston/cylinder and similar engine note to the Porsche; large parts of the BMW X5... etc).
Porsche have almost certianly done work for VW, though most like more in line with the design of a door handle, and airbox, etc. Not something in the area of a whole car. They were contracted to design a sports car for Audi in the early 70s, and they did... though Audi would later decide they did not want the completed car (which Porsche then marketed as the Porsche 924).
In the early days, like many European manufacturers, Porsche outsourced their coach making to other companies like Recaro and Karmann... however, this ended when Porsche purchased Recaro's Coachwork business (and Recaro retained only their seat making business for themselves). In fact, Porsche would at times take a similar approach to their production creating plants that exceeded their capacity needs and producting cars for some other German makes when it was not in use for Porsche vehicles (mainly happened in the 1990s when Porsche cars were not selling at expected levels). To be clear, since Porsche purchased Recaro, they have operated their own factory and built their own coachwork (and they do have a few large factories).
As for DeLorean... Porsche was indeed the first company contacted in regards to building his car. A set of specs were submitted, and Porscche responded that it could be done, but the price they quoted to do so in the planned time frame left John DeLorean with sticker shock as it was about 10 times greater than the planned budget. DeLorean then moved to Lotus, which accepted the project. Shortly after starting the project, the specs were dramatically scaled back to meet the budget and schedule. Porsche did not refuse this project, rather DeLorean refused to pay the amount required to contract Porsche to do this work.

FERDINAND PORSCHE History Project?
Looking for some primary sources or some good secondary soources on Ferdinand porsche for a very important history project any info or links is very helpful
Answer: Here's an Answer I gave a couple of months ago to the question "Are Porsches Austrian or German Cars? Most of this fits into your request.
Dr. Ferdinand porsche was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (German Reichenberg), which was then northern Bohemia.
In 1898 Porsche joined the Vienna-based factory Jakob Lohner & Co. Their first design, unveiled in 1898, was the "System Lohner-Porsche." After his electric car designs at Lohner, Porsche reached the logical conclusion and in 1901 introduced the 'Mixte' vehicle/transmission concept. Instead of a massive battery-pack, an internal combustion engine, built by the German firm Daimler, was fitted to a generator to drive electric hub motors and a small battery pack.
Ferdinand porsche had created the first petroleum electric hybrid vehicle on record. In 1905, Porsche was recognized with the Poetting prize as Austria's most outstanding automotive engineer.
Porsche went on to design many cars, including racers, for Austro-Daimler. He was awarded the honorary degree of "Dr. techn h.c." from the Vienna University of Technology in 1917.
Porsche's cars were for many years Austrian. Porsche landed a new job as Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft's Technical Director in 1923. Since then Porsche's cars have been German cars, primarily built in Stuttgart.
Added (Volkswagen):
"Adolph Hitler met with Ferdinand porsche in 1933 and charged him with creating a new car. Hitler required that the car carry two adults and three children, go up to 60 miles per hour, get at least 33 miles per gallon, and cost only 1,000 reichsmarks.
"In 1938, Hitler had the KdF Wagen factory built to produce the cars designed by Porsche. By the time the factory was complete, Hitler had invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland. The factory was dedicated to building military vehicles during World War II.
After the war, the factory ended up in the British section of occupied Germany. The British military re-opened the factory, named it Volkswagen, and finally gave control of the company to the German government."

What is your favorite Porsche of all time, what do you own, and what is the coolest one youve ridden in?
Personally, I have a Guards Red 2005 997 Porsche Carrera S, and have ridden in a 997 GT3RS. Pretty exhilarating ride in the RS, and one of my favorites. I also like any RUF or Gemballa, and as many of you do, I enjoy the Carrera GT, GT2, GT3, GT1, 959, most of the classic ones, Turbos, and 356 because it was the beginning of all.
Cool thought: The Buggati Veyron uses a Volkswagon Engine, which was founded by Ferdinand porsche, who also founded Porsche (duh). Without Porsche, the Buggati wouldnt be so great!
Answer: Favorite Porsche: So many to choose from! This is probably an area that is subject to recent experience... I recently wound up spending a good chunk of time around a 908/3; an amazing car to be sure, and the sound of that Flat-8 when udner WOT is simply amazing. And as I consider a favorite, this car does spring to mind, event though it is not a car I would normally consider among all the cars Porsche has made (even though is so many ways, it is a perfect example of everything that makes these cars wonderful). But that said, I would probably need to look towards two other cars from the same era (taking a favorite street car, and a favorite race car): for the street, the 2.8L 911 RSR as some of these were sold as street cars. All these years later, it still remains the target for many of the R-Gruppe cars around today! For the track, I have a hard time NOT picking the 917/30, but for pure versitility and success, it would have to be the 956/962.
What I own: At present a mid-80s 3.2L Carrera, which is mostly driven at the track... still does some time on the street though. Fun car, and an absolute blast to drive (a challenge to drive at the limit, which makes it even funner).
Coolest as driver: GT3RS, GT2, 997S, 996 Turbo, 993 Turbo S, 930, 911RS, 959, 550.
Coolest as a passenger: GT3RSR, 908, 964RS.
And a variety of extremely non-stock 911s and 914s.
Also, as a note on Buggati... Ferdinand porsche designed the VW Bug, and his son founded the current car company with their name. Buggati though was already a legendary name by the time Porsche was founded! If you are looking for a direct connection, consider instead that VW owns the rights to the Buggati name, and under it produces the current Buggati cars... and Porsche is the majority shareholder of VW.

Answer: Actually, it was the KDF, (Kraft Durch Freude)
Which translates as Strength through Joy.
{ ... Starting in 1933, KdF provided affordable leisure activities such as concerts, plays, libraries, day trips and holidays. Large ships, such as the Wilhelm Gustloff, were built specifically for KdF cruises. Borrowing from the Italian fascist organization Dopolavoro (After Work), but extending its influence into the workplace as well, KdF rapidly developed a wide range of activities, and quickly grew into one of Nazi Germany's largest organizations. The official statistics showed that in 1934, 2.3 million people took KdF holidays. By 1938, this figure rose to 10.3 million.[2] By 1939, it had over 7,000 paid employees and 135,000 voluntary workers, organized into divisions covering such areas as sport, education, and tourism, with wardens in every factory and workshop employing more than 20 people.
The Nazis sought to attract tourists from abroad, a task performed by Hermann Esser, one of the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda's secretaries. A series of multilingual and colorful brochures, titled "Deutschland", advertised Germany as a peaceful, idyllic, and progressive country, on one occasion even portraying the ministry's boss, Joseph Goebbels, grinning and hamming in an unlikely photo series of the Cologne carnival.
KdF set up production of an affordable car, the Kdf-Wagen, which later became the Volkswagen Beetle. Buyers of the car made payments and posted stamps in a stamp-savings book, which when full, would be redeemed for the car. Due to the shift to wartime production, no consumer ever received a Kdf-Wagen (although after the war, Volkswagen did give some customers a 200DM discount for their stamp-books). The Beetle factory was primarily converted to produce the Kübelwagen (the German equivalent of the Jeep). ... }
