Tips on CRJ-900s misaligned windows?
Ok, I am flying on a Delta Connection CRJ-900 operated by Pinnacle airlines to Providence, RI in a couple of weeks. I have heard a lot about it having misaligned windows in many of the rows. I will be sitting in seat 17D, and I was wondering if anyone can give me more info about the misaligned windows of this aircraft. There are a couple of open seats a little bit futher back (about 4 rows) but they are labeled on both SeatGuru and SeatExpert to have misaligned windows, while on mine, it just say its an average economy seat in the cabin. Plus, Ive never been on a CRJ before. Whats it like? Im so used to big 767s, and I am not sure about being on a smaller aircraft. Anyway, thanks in advance. Please reply before August 1st.
Answer: Seatguru says that they have misaligned windows in those rows on all cr9s except the version 3, and that is correct but Delta is not going to label the seat as "misaligned window seat" so even though that's true, it is still a standard economy seat. The smaller regional jets are pretty much the same, just... smaller. Also the jets are in the back so if you sit in the back it's going to be noisy. They may not have as much entertainment or food/drink options but a lot of times they have more comfortable seats. They have less headroom and sometimes you have to walk out onto the runway and go up a ladder to get on, but it's just like being in a small plane.

im confused - help me w/my flight!?
So... This is the first time ive used expedia, rather than going directly through the airline.
It says im flying with Continental airlines, operated by Pinnacle airlines dba Northwest.
I tried to do 24 hour check in with continental, and it says :
Continental.com check-in is not currently offered for flights that are operated by another carrier. Please proceed to the airport for check-in.
Do I go to Continental or Northwest?!?
Its been a long day, and this might be the dumbest question ever.. but im confused...
Answer: It's not a stupid question at all - codeshares can make things very confusing, especially if you don't travel that often.
To answer your question, you go to Northwest. For future reference, you always go to the carrier operating the flight for check-in.
Safe travels!

Question for anyone that works for Delta Airlines?
Do you know why Delta discontinued their mainline service to Omaha after the merger with NWA? All we get is regional service with your brand. Not that the regional service is bad; I had a great experience with them a few days ago, the one ASA flight was better than the Pinnacle flights. I just prefer the space and convenience of the larger aircraft (737s, A320s, etc.). I liked actually carrying on my carry on instead of gate checking it. Do you know why this is? This question might be a long shot, but is there any way that you or I could make a suggestion to start up mainline service at Omaha again?
The mainline flights were usually full or near full. Capacity was never a problem.
Answer: The reason is obvious. Too many unsold seats with the larger aircraft. Airlines, in order to be profitable, need seat capacity near 90% on all flights.

what is it like to be a flight attendant?
I am interested in becoming a flight attendant for Pinnacle airlines, based here in memphis, tn (where I live). I have a few questions regarding this position:
1) does the f/a have control over his/her schedule?
2) what are the hours like? for instance, does a f/a work a five day week, two weeks, or months at a time?
3) what is the pay like?
4) have you or anyone you know with a child worked as a f/a?
please feel free to provide any additional information regarding this field. it is greatly appreciated.
Answer: Whilel i cannot answer all of your qesutions, here is some information that may be helpful to you.
Median annual flight attendant salaries were $38,820 in 2000. The middle 50 percent earned between $28,200 and $56,610. The lowest 10 percent earned salaries of less than $18,090, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $83,630. According to data from the Association of Flight Attendants, beginning median flight attendant salaries were about $14,847 a year in 2000.
Unlike most 9 to 5 office workers who earn salaries that are privately negotiated and performance-based, flight attendant salaries are paid an hourly union rate that is based almost entirely on seniority.
For example, all first year flight attendant salaries at a particular airline might be $19 per hour; all sixth year flight attendants, $32 per hour; and all fourteenth year flight attendants, $41 per hour.
Each airline's hourly base rate is unique. Some airlines pay higher hourly rates than others. It all depends on the labor contract. Every 3 to 5 years, each airline negotiates a new labor contract with its flight attendant union. Once compensation is agreed upon, it is fixed for the duration of the contract.
Calculating Flight attendant salaries
As a flight attendant, you won't be paid this hourly rate for every hour that you work. The time you spend commuting to the airport, sleeping in hotel rooms, standing around the airport between flights, and assisting passengers during boarding and deplaning is essentially unpaid labor.
Most airlines only pay you from the time an aircraft pushes back from the gate to the time it arrives at the gate of its destination. This is commonly referred to as flight time, block time, or hard time. The major exception to this is meal expenses. Most airlines pay a nominal hourly rate to cover meal expenses. Hotel lodging is paid for by the airline.
Technically, flight attendants are paid based on accrued pay time, which includes block time plus any excess claim time. Claim time is time paid in excess of block time. For example, if you were required to deadhead to another city during a trip, you would not work the flight (and would not earn block time), but would be entitled to additional deadhead time. This additional time would be reflected in your pay time.
Instead of flight time-based pay, certain airlines compensate flight attendants based on the number of accrued monthly flight miles. Others pay flat salaries regardless of the hours (or miles) flown. These compensation methods are unique, but you should nevertheless be aware of them.
Flight attendant salaries vary for other reasons
Job performance has virtually no impact on your pay. You are expected to work at a high level and will never receive a bonus or promotion of any kind, even for exemplary service. This may seem a little strange to you, especially if you have spent a portion of your life in an office building trying to climb the corporate ladder.
On the positive side, since pay is tied directly to seniority, you will receive guaranteed annual pay raises; they are built right into the contract. As a new-hire, you might even receive a mandatory pay raise after only 6 months of employment, immediately following the probationary period. Another positive aspect of unionized labor is that it eliminates much of the jealousy and biases that surround compensation in corporate America.
For example, you will never hear someone say, "I wonder what they are paying him?, or "I know they are not paying me what I'm worth because I'm a minority." After all, seniority determines pay, which cannot be influenced by human prejudices.
On the negative side, however, you are essentially at the mercy of the labor contract and have no negotiating power as an individual when it comes to compensation. If you believe you are underpaid, you cannot exactly walk into your supervisor's office and ask for more money. Instead, you must rely on your union representatives to stand up for you - and every other flight attendant who works for the airline - during contract negotiations.
Since you cannot negotiate pay as a flight attendant, be sure to choose an airline that makes the most financial sense before accepting employment. You will want to choose an airline that is in an active hiring mode. This will help you gain seniority more quickly, resulting in better pay. You should also choose an airline with competitive flight attendant salaries. Granted contracts change every 3 to 5 years, but typically frugal airlines stay frugal and more generous ones stay generous. If you want to make the most amount of money, stick to the major airlines.
To a certain extent, any flight attendant can simply peruse the labor contract to determine what a fellow employee is earning. After all, if you know someone's date of hire, you can easily determine their hourly rate; it is in the contract! You must realize, however, that although flight hour base rates are fixed, actual monthly income can vary even between flight attendants with comparable seniority.
For example, some airlines offer premium flight attendant salaries for those who work the lead or "A" flight attendant position, work at night or on certain weekends and holidays, or fly international flights. Additionally, the number of flight hours a flight attendant chooses to fly in a given month has a dramatic affect on income. Certain airlines have a two-tiered wage system which also affects how much you can earn as a flight attendant.

Flight School - which are the most important courses to take?
Hi
I wanted to reach out to current/retired pilots or current flight instructors. I hope you may be able to answer a question relating to attending flight school.
My name is Mark, I am 35 years of age. I am a British chap, green card holder living in New York City.
I have a burning desire to go to flight school and go through the
Private pilot course
Instrument rating Course
Multi Engine Course
Certified Flight Instructor course
Once I have attained the CFI ticket, I want to build my hours through instructing to be in a position in the future to go onto a regional us airline as a first officer.
I will be honest straight away and tell you that I have limited funds financially and so to do this I will be needing to take out a student loan.
I have received a few brochures from the big Flight schools, and for the courses I need to take to get to a regional airline the costs are nearly $80000.
There is a number of prices branded about and I am confused on what courses are a requirement to get to the regional airlines in the future.
There are combined courses that are just
Private pilot, instrument rating, multi engine and certified flight instructor for approx $45000
The there is the top package for $80000
which is all the above + CFII + MEI and ATP license
if I only took the $45000 course would that limit me on my chances of getting to a regional airline in the future? Or is is a must must requirement to do the CFII + MEI and ATP license as well?
The limitations I currently have are:
1. I have limited funds, and so I need to take out a student loan. I do not have a co signer, it will just be myself concerning the loan application.
2. My worry is if I take out a loan for say $80000, The research I have done say for example first year pilot with say Pinnacle airlines as a first officer for regional carrier makes only $26 per hour over a 75 hour month...that would mean that I would not be able to mett the repayments on my loan.
Given that I am British living in America, I do not understand how student loans work in the United States - if I took out a loan would I be able to make repayments that reflect my income or would I have to pay the full amount each month equally the figure of the loan repayments each month. From the research I have done it seems that for an average $40000 loan repayments can be anywhere between $800-$1000 per month, it that is the case I cant see how I could make this happen. A friend of mine who is a United States citizen took out a large student loan for a career she is interested in, in a different industry, and she is able to pay student loans relating to how much she earns, if that is possible to the loan I am looking for, then I do see over a longer period of time 10-15 years flying commercially I could really tackle my student loan debt. I understand that for a number of years starting off as a pilot the salary is very minimal, but like I said I am not doing this for money..I am doing this for a genuine passion and personal ambition.
In your opinion have you seen examples of this where students have taken out big loans, is it truthfully doable?
I am trying to understand how I can make this happen. I used to be a flight attendant for several years and so I understand the aviation industry and ever since then I have always wanted to fly. I am not wanting to do this because of the salary in later years as a pilot, or the prestige I am doing this out of a love and passion for flying.
I hope you may be able to offer some advice on how best to proceed so I can understand how the process works to go through the required courses and actually fly
Thank you for your time
Mark Stewart
Answer: As a first officer for a regional carrier - your yearly salary would be $18,000 -
These are gross number - Will remain $1,200 or 1,300 monthly net -
First question, will you be selected by"whatever" regional airline -
This being aware that there are 100 candidates for 2 or 3 openings...? -
Your $45,000 loan will have to be reimbursed, employed or not -
I do not know banks loans exist for pilot courses -
Banks know of very bad repayment record of "future airline captains" -
Going for the $80,000 school tuition is even worse -
You will be a brand new (no experience) CFI -
If I have a school, I would not entrust a multi engine airplane to a new CFI -
Even though you may have CFII and MEI ratings... (and 25 hrs multi...!) -
So getting CFII and MEI is wasted money -
For the ATP, you need to have 1500 hrs in your log book -
That is 1200 hours after completing your CPL, Instrument and MEL ratings -
So an extra $40,000 gives you 1200 hours of flying time...?
I do not know what type of math you use -
But 1200 hrs at $100/hr is $120,000 rental of airplane at C-172 price -
Your plan is nonsense -
If you were in UK (you are lucky to be a British subject) you could get a loan -
And get assistance to join a "real airline" (not a regional) in UK or EU -
With the JAR-FCL (EASA) frozen ATPL licence -
Why not inquire of the Oxford Academy, or the CTC Cadets in UK...?
That is the place to "make it" -
If you are not a millionaire (or in the Air Force/Navy) do not try in USA...
With 300 hrs and (f) ATPL - pilots get hired by airlines in UK and EU -
Average 2,500 to 3,500 hrs for new hires in USA -
Get informed of the real facts -

New to flying/airplane transfers questions?
Hello everyone, I havent flown since I was young so I have a few questions about how things work. I will be flying from Appleton, WI to Minneapolis, 2 hour layover, Minneapolis to Seattle, 2 1/2 layover, Seattle to Bend, OR.
Will my checked luggage move itself to the different planes until I arrive at my final destination? (all flights are through Delta, but have different operating airlines, pinnacle and horizon)
Do I need to get tags for my checked luggage with my name and address on them other than the ones that will be put on by the airline, and where do I get them?
When arriving in Minn and Seattle airports, how do I find out where I go and how to get there? Do I go to the Delta booth or to the operating airlines booth? Is it difficult to find where to go?
I bought an E-ticket, I assume I have to get boarding tickets from each individual booth when I transfer. How much ahead of time do I need to be there at my transfer locations to get my ticket and boarding pass?
Any tips at all for a beginning flyer would be great, I want to feel comfortable that I wont miss one of my transfers or lose my luggage-that would suck.
Thanks.
Answer: Will my checked luggage move itself to the different planes until I arrive at my final destination? (all flights are through Delta, but have different operating airlines, pinnacle and horizon)
>>> Yes, the luggage should be checked through to your final destination. When you give the bags to the ticket agent, they will let you know that it is being done. If not, then you should ask to be certain.
Do I need to get tags for my checked luggage with my name and address on them other than the ones that will be put on by the airline, and where do I get them?
>>> Yes, you should have your own luggage tags on each bag. You can get them in lots of places, like department stores that have a luggage department will almost certainly have them. Offices of the AAA will have them, if one is near you. You should also put a note card inside the bag with your name and address. It is important to have a phone number where they can reach you - like your cell phone, or the phone of the hotel or person you are visiting. It won't do you much good if they call your home phone and no one is there.
When arriving in Minn and Seattle airports, how do I find out where I go and how to get there? Do I go to the Delta booth or to the operating airlines booth? Is it difficult to find where to go?
>>> When you check in at the Appleton airport, you will get boarding passes for all legs of that trip. Those boarding passes may have the gate number of each of the next flights. If not, and even if they do, you will find TV monitors in all airports that list departing flights and the present gates from which each will leave. The flights are listed in alphabetic order, according to the destination city of the flight. Even if the boarding pass lists a gate, check the monitor to be certain. Departure gates do change sometimes. All airport concourses have good signs to tell you where the gates are located. I think you will find it very easy to find your way around. There are always a ton of airport and airline people around in case you have a question.
I bought an E-ticket, I assume I have to get boarding tickets from each individual booth when I transfer. How much ahead of time do I need to be there at my transfer locations to get my ticket and boarding pass?
>>> You will get all your boarding passes when you check in for the first flight, so you will not need to go anywhere at your connecting airports to get them. You should get to the Appleton airport about 90 minutes before the departure of your first flight. The layover times sound just right. Long enough to allow for a delay on the incoming flight, and to let your luggage be transferred.

Check in w/ "Operating Carrier"?
I bought airline tickets via Orbitz where I input my Delta Air lines Skymiles (I think b/c Delta is connected with Northwest?). So all my flights say Delta Air Lines ####, but arent actually operated by Delta. First Im flying from Grand Rapids to Detroit, where it says Canadair Regional Air Jet (CRJ), "operated by Pinnacle airlines - please check in with operating carrier." From Detroit, I then board an Airbus operated by Northwest Airlines to SFO, again it states, "please check in with operating carrier." So should I look for Pinnacle at Grand Rapids to check in (or Northwest?), and my bags are checked all the way to SFO? Or do I have to re-check in at Detroit with Northwest?
Answer: Check in with Delta or Delta Connection counter. They will tag your bags all the way through to SFO and you should get both boarding passes. Pinnacle airlines does not have its own counter at GRR and is listed as Pinnacle airlines d/b/a Delta Connection

Do I have to go through customs and recheck baggage when connecting in Amsterdam?
This is my first time flying and I am wondering what I need to do. I am flying from Buffalo, New York to Cardiff, Wales and I have two stops. The first one is in Detroit, MI, and the second is in Amsterdam. Im not sure as to what processed I will need to go through because I have never flown before. Heres what my Itinerary kinda looks like:
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 8745 Economy | Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) | 1hr 15min | 231 miles
Operated by: Pinnacle airlines -- DL 4141. Please check in with the operating carrier.
Depart: 7:50pm Buffalo, NY Buffalo Niagara Intl (BUF)
Arrive: 9:05pm Detroit, MI Detroit Wayne County (DTW)
Change planes. Time between flights: 0hr 45min
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 6048 Economy | Airbus Industrie A330-300 (333) | 7hr 55min | 3920 miles
Operated by: DELTA AIR LINES -- DL 248. Please check in with the operating carrier.
Depart: 9:50pm Detroit, MI Detroit Wayne County (DTW)
Arrive: 11:45am Amsterdam, Netherlands Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS)
Change planes. Time between flights: 2hr 20min
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 1063 Economy
Operated by: KLM CITYHOPPER. Please check in with the operating carrier.
Depart: 2:05pm Amsterdam, Netherlands Amsterdam-Schiphol (AMS)
Arrive: 2:20pm Cardiff, United Kingdom Cardiff-Wales Arpt (CWL)
Based on that, I am assuming that I will need to re-check my luggage and go through customs, but I am unsure as to anything really. How many times will I have to re-check my luggage with this flight pattern? And will the 45 minute layover in Detroit be enough to do what I need to do?
Any information would be helpful as I am a first time flier.
Answer: After your first flight from BUF to DTW is complete, the only thing you will need to do is hustle to the gate for your flight to AMS. 45 minutes is not a long layover but luckily, your flights will be in the same terminal. It is a long terminal but as long as you aren't seriously delayed, 45 minutes will get you to your next flight. International flights usually start boarding 45 minutes before the departure time, so assuming your flight from BUF is on time, your flight to AMS will start boarding as soon as you arrive in DTW.
You don't need to worry about going through passport control or rechecking any luggage in DTW, so just get to the gate for your next flight.
When you land in AMS you will have to go through passport control and you may have to go through security again (depending upon where you land and where your flight to CWL takes off) but you won't need to get your luggage, go through customs and re-check it.
When you land in CWL you will go through passport control once again and at that time you'll get your luggage and go through customs.
If I may offer two tips of advice...
1) 45 minutes is not a long layover time for an international flight. You could hit bad weather in BUF or DTW that may delay your flight, or a mechanical delay can happen. Since you are on the last flight of the day between DTW and AMS, if any kind of delay happens, you won't be getting out until the next day. I've had it happen to me and it sucks. If I was in your shoes, I would look at the flight schedules between BUF and DTW and try to stand by for an earlier flight. Even if it costs me $25 or $50 to stand by, and even if everything goes great and I end up spending four hours in DTW, the peace of mind for knowing I will catch my international flight is worth it.
2) Assuming you don't want to or are unable to catch an earlier flight, make sure you pack some snacks in your carry-on bag with you for your long flight to AMS. With only a 45 minute layover in DTW, you may not have time to grab anything at the shops in the airport. On your long flight to AMS, Delta will serve food but only a couple times and you may get hungry in the middle of the flight.
I hope this information helps. Enjoy Cardiff. I was just there a month ago.

Can I use my iPod on Northwest Airlines?
Im going on my first ever plane trip next Monday, May 4th. I was wondering if youre allowed to pack your phone charger and if you are allowed to use your iPod in flight? I am taking Northwest Airlines - Pinnacle airlines...
I tried looking on their sites for this information but couldnt find it...
Also, if you guys have any tips that would be great!
I would appreciate a serious answer, as well... If thats possible...
Answer: lol...yes you are allowed to but your cell phone needs to be off the whole time...they will tell you that, you can def have an ipod!!! when you get on the airplane, and are ready to go, they will give you a safety demonstration, then right before you are about to take off they will tell you to turn all electronics off, once you get high enough in the air you can turn them back on, except for the cell phone, you shouldn't turn that back on until the plane is fully landed! as for charger...yes, as long as you aren't trying to charge your items while on the plane...lol...
ok so here are some tips...
make sure all electronics are charged before you leave, try to travel as light as possible, put one outfit into your carry on (in case your baggage gets lost), roll your clothes, or use the bundle method (i will give you a video link for both), bring enough to keep you entertained on the flight but don't take too much, practice the 3-1-1 rule (link below), wear flats or slip on shoes on the flight, don't wear a bunch of bobby pins, clips, etc that are metal (it will make the security process faster), and finally...HAVE FUN :D
