walking or riding a bike 2.3 miles???
in August i am moving to Austin to go to college, but since i dont have enough credits to go to the University so i will be attending a community college which is around 2.3 miles (according to mapquest) from where i am staying, and around .8 miles to the Universty , well the center of it (according to Google Maps)
anyways i will be going through the university to get the community college (2.3 miles, according to mapquest), instead of drving and taking the freeway to the college, which is a little bit faster (2.68 according to mapquest)
i want do it b/c where i currently live, Houston, the community college is a 30 minute DRIVE, and it takes up a lot of my gas so i have to refill every week
instead of driving there i want to walk or ride my bike there
should i do it??
whats the travel time walking?
whats the travel time riding a bike?
driving time is 6 minutes
*** i also want to do it so i can get in shape, since i am 511 and weigh 185****
the weather is perfect it could reach 102 and it would not feel hot, as to where in Houston it could be 94 and the heat would feel unbearable due to the humidity
Answer: I'd definitely ride a bike 2.3 miles. It's great exercise! And it's a whole lot quicker than walking.

Does anybody know the name of this condo in Destin, FL PLEASE HELP?
This is my 4th time going to Destin. Weve stayed at Crystal Sands condos and werent too pleased with it. Everytime my family and I go we see these big brown condos but always forget the name. Not the houses, but theyre condos. Theyre on Scenic Highway 98. Does anybody know the name? They have big balconies. I cant save the pic and post it because I found it on Google maps. So maybe you could take a look at the pic on there? Heres the link: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sugexp=cgsbsh&gs_nf=1&cp=29&gs_id=2&xhr=t&q=3133+old+highway+98+destin+florida&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=620&wrapid=tljp133141502700900&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl You might have to turn around a bit in the pic but its the brown complex. if the link doesnt work then copy and paste it.

Answer: Assuming an average walking speed of 3mph (I have measured this by holding a GPS in my hand and walking at a normal to brisk pace) it would take 46 minutes to do 2.3 miles.
Assuming you're a pretty fast biker and can do 20mph, 2.3 miles will take you 7 minutes although your speed is likely to be lower than 20mph.

What are the large levee/wall structures crisscrossing CT?
Some of them have dirt roads running across the top, some do not. Too large to be rock walls common to the area, and placed wrong to be recent levees. Here is a map link showing what I am talking about.http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&resnum=0&q=map+gungywamp+archaeological+site&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl If you zoom out you can see they cover quite a bit of ground, and Im just curious.
Hmmm..it seems so unlikey but maybe. Map poquonnock rd & high rock rd, then switch to hybrid and you should be able to see the features I am talking about, thanks.
Answer: If you can see them from major highways, there's a harebrained scheme hatched in Washington DC to spend billions of tax dollars on huge walls along interstates to supposedly block highway noise from adjacent residential areas, and in the process chop down forests of trees that used to line the interstates, plus provide oodles of space for graffitti artists.

left on red a violation, even if thats your only option left?
Hey so i got a ticket for turning left on red. However when i made the left it had just turned red, and the only reason i couldnt make it earlier was cause the oncoming traffic kept coming up until the moment it turned red. furthermore the way this street is http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=main%20street%20poughkeepsie&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=il is that even if you pull out a little bit to make the left turn you are in front of the traffice from side. In this case i was making the left from main street onto south grand. The cop was in north grand but because I was preparing to make the left I was blocking him off and the oncoming traffic from south grand. So my only option was to make the left. I even saw the cop before i made it but there was nothing i could do. He still gave me a ticket saying that his light was green for atleast 3 seconds which i believe is an exaggeration. Should i argue this in court? or plea guilty to a lower charge and not risk getting points on my license.
Answer: The first thing you should realize is that the law is very specific.
1. You can not do a left turn on red.
2. You must stop BEHIND the stop line until the intersection is clear of oncoming traffic before you can make a left turn and the light must still be green or you have to wait until the next green light.
The rule of thumb is do not enter the intersection (cross the stop line) until you can continue through your turn without stopping. That is one of the most broken laws in cities. (and causes many accidents when people sit in the center of the intersection waiting to turn.)

New type of Google Earth mapping??Re:Google Earth car!
I have just seen a car drive down my street,it had like a big periscope thing sticking out of the top of it and on the periscope it had at least 8 cameras, each one facing a different position. So it was basically taking a picture of the street from all angles and each side as it went down the street. The cameras were about the hight of my ground floor windows.Anyway the car said "Google mapping" on the side of it.So is this some kind of new mapping?were can i find out more about it and when will it be working? It looks like there mapping the whole of my town (Hull).Infact im sure ill be on the map!as i was lookin out the window at it!So please were can i find out about the details? And does this not invade our privacy a bit?we dont have net curtains and it basically looked straight into my house!Anyway its info on this i need please!links if possible,cheers-Paul.

Do you think I can handle a really long bike ride?
Hi everyone,
Ive recently started to think about a goal that I could set for myself this summer. I always have some kind of strange goal every summer, and this year I decided to ask people who would know a little bit about this before I set it in stone. I want to bike 72 miles, from my house in Canton, MA, to my summer house in Yarmouth, MA (Cape Cod) in one day. I used the new "biking directions" feature on Google Maps to make a route for me. I wouldnt be on highways at all. I am only 15, but I am an extremely (I mean extremely) serious biker. Ive put hundreds of miles on my bike since Ive had it and I get it tuned up every two months. Ive also won long distance races organized by my town and local biking association. I just got a speedometer and Ive already put 30 miles on the odometer since last week. I have gone on long road trips before (about 20-25 miles) and I trailblaze with it a lot. Its a customized Giant Boulder SE and it has all the bells and whistles. I definitely think I could do this in about 8 hours with stops. Does anyone else think I could do this? I think its worth a try. If you have any comments or suggestions please let me know. Are there certain things that I should do before, during and after the trip? Anything special to prepare myself/my bike for the trip?
Thanks!
Answer: You should be able to do it 72 miles is not that far. 20-25 mile rides are an every day thing for me. You want to load up on carb's the day before the ride to get your glucose levels maxed out. Carry plenty of water and take some sandwiches with. I like to eat Good & Plenty on long rides it only contains sugar and carb's and no fat.

How fast would UPS ship my computer?
So basically I ordered a computer from Best Buy, free (standard) shipping because it was a Saturday. I looked up the order, and it said MAUMEE, OH, US 10/27/2008 7:14 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
And Maumee is 8 hours 39 minutes fastest route on Google Maps from my home. Best Buys site said that it would arrive between 10/31/08 to 11/5/08, but from a bit of math that I did, assuming that UPS carriers drive from 7am to 9pm, the times that they would make deliveries, and assuming that UPS carriers always go on the fastest routes to (my) their location, I found that the computer would probably arrive tomorrow, 10/28/08. Is that true, or will the carrier end up making deliveries along the way and take longer to get to my house?
Im expecting it on Tuesday or Wednesday, since most things that I ship arrive early.
Otherwise, I guess itll be Friday or so.
Its standard shipping, basic, as basic as you get. I think that Best Buy said that it would basically be a business week to get here...
Answer: If its going Priority mail give it 3 to 7 days..If its regular ground it
could be 3 to 10 days.

Should I buy a Mobile Home?
Hi. Im single and in my 30s and considering a mobile home as a sort half way point to a real house. Got around 25 grand saved in the bank and would plan to put maybe 20 of it down, hopefully financing as little as possible.
I only established credit about a year ago, my net income is between 2000 and 2400/month and solid, and I save about 500/month. The lot rent would be 330 and if the bills totaled 4-500 the mobile home would cost about what I pay now for rent/utils. Im sick of apartments and see several advantages over them in mobile homes. I know there are some cons as well... dont like owning a home on someone elses land but Ill look into all the rules before buying.
My plan would be to stay there perhaps 5-7 years while continuing to save for a house. I know MHs depreciate but I wouldnt mind taking a loss of several grand if I liked living there. Most of the homes in this park are older and I think the values are somewhat stable at this point.
I worry about the volatility of the dollar, that well have significant inflation and Ill end up taking a loss before I can buy a house. So Im thinking at least a MH is a hard asset. I have been researching them for about a year, and seen their prices come down about 15% in that time (around here), so this may be as good a time to buy as any.
I would only buy in a nice park. Ive driven thru the main one Im looking at buying in and talked to the office lady a bit about rules and such. If youre interested (or bored), take a look around this park with the google street view (link below). Its nice.
Not sure anybody will take the time to read/answer me, but Id really appreciate your opinions. Remember - the fewer the answers, the easier to score those succulent 10 points!

Answer: Prices are indeed much lower than owning and renting for most areas and you don't pay property tax yet you must adhere to sometimes very strict rules/guidelines set. Must make sure they allow younger ages because so many inhabitants frown on activity by people who may disrupt their otherwise bucolic/quiet peace.

Is this a good time for the number of miles I biked?
Due to scheduling conflicts (school/work mostly) I cant get out and do as much as I used to, but it was a slow day at work, and since Ive only been working there a couple of weeks they had me take off early to remain in compliance with labor laws. So after moping around the house for a bit I decided to go on a bike ride. I set the stop watch on my Tracphone the moment I kicked off the drive way. I rode around small country roads a bit, and then into town (or the suburbs to be more specific). I would estimate I spent 5-10 minutes of the ride waiting at traffic lights, and some more time stopping to get a view of the downtown buildings from my vantage point. I also climbed up a few hills, and against very heavy wind towards the conclusion of my journey for what I would guess was maybe a mile. When I arrived at my driveway the stopwatch calculated I had been riding for 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 7 seconds. According the route I biked on Google Maps, the total mileage came to 12.5. Given the windy conditions, and the fact I rarely am able to do this (I havent had a longish bike ride in months) would this be considered good time for the mileage and would there be anything I can do to improve it in the future if not.

I know what you mean. I ride to stay in shape, then soccer season comes and I tail off in my riding. I have learned that there is always a starting point. There is always a top performance point. ANd, there is this huge gap in between. Your time, is a good time for have had a layoff. You could expect to pay the price for your layoff for a few more rides, but then take off again in your performance.
I would advise you to get a wired cycle computer. I prefer mine with cadence. It is a far better tool for training than say, your speed. If you can increase your cadence you will really increase your speed dramatically! I pretty much only use the cadence for training. After a lay off , it too vividly tells me my condition :-(

...like wasnt it better to host the CWG in cities like bangalore (or chennai or maybe goa :P) else than delhi?? like these cities are already very organised, clean n by this time of the year monsoon is almost over in banglore. the city has many stadiums as well http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=sports+stadium+in+bangalore&fb=1&hq=sports+stadium&hnear=Bengaluru,+Karnataka+560001,+India&view=text&ei=5NmaTIaJMoeosAO0sqj2BA&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=more-results&resnum=1&ved=0CCYQtQMwAA ... dont you think had govt spent the same amount of money n efforts in banglore, there wud be lesser mess n greater result? also i think that the amount of corrupt officials including cops in delhi is a bit a higher. plus the world sees banglore as a better city than delhi. its not necessary that the games were to be held in the capital itself? its a national issue n whole nation will face the shame if the games dont go well
BQ- Do you think india will rock in this CWG? since no1 else is coming anyways :P i say bring the next Olympic also in india!! :P

Answer: We won the bid to host the Games in late 2003. Whether its Delhi or Bangalore, the fact remains that we did nothing in the past 6 to 7 years.
Corrupt officials? The IOA would still be in charge of organising the event no matter where it was being held. Kalmadi would still have exceeded the budget and yet done nothing.
Police? They dont play any role in building solid roofing that doesnt collapse or accommodation thats habitable.

Is this amount of time decent for the number of miles I biked?

My fiances bro wrote this email to 11 ppl not including me planning a ski trip. Should I be sad?
"Hello ladies and gentlemen,
So our ski trip for this weekend is finally coming together, but there just have a few details left to sort out. We have a house now with plenty of space which will sleep all of us with room for more, and per Rebeccas demands has a hot tub. She has conveyed a lot of excitement over the hot tub, so please give her the honorary first dip into the tub upon our arrival.
The house address is at ----------------------. You can look up the directions to the house on google maps or you can refer to the house directions and instructions document written by the landlord, which Ive attached.
Now as far as rides go:
We have 3 cars arranged for the trip - Jasons, Lillians, and Brandons. I suggest we split up into the following groups for rides:
Lillian(driver)
passengers - Rebecca, Jillian, Max. One of you might need to drive for a bit since Lillian has failed her drivers test a couple of times / is afraid of night driving
Jason(driver)
passengers - Jack, JoJo, Greg. Jack is an excellent driver, unlike Lauren, and will be fully capable of driving throughout the entire trip. He might even be a designated driver on Friday/Saturday and shuttle the entire group to the bars, which will be about a 20 minute drive each way. Thanks Jack!
Brandon (driver)
passengers - Steve, Nick, temporary empty spot. Brandons driving capabilities are unknown as of the writing of this email.
As far as pickups go, I will leave to each group to arrange their own ride. Ideally everyone should get out of the city by 3:00pm on Friday so that we get to the house by 8:30-9:00, have time to settle in and go out.
What to pack -
Ski Clothes (use this link for some tips http://skiing.lifetips.com/cat/65809/ski… -
1) For you beginners, this really should consist of a baselayer made out of polyester material (not cotton!) that will keep you both warm and dry. you will sweat too easily if you wear a cotton long underwear.
2) Ski pants (snow pants)
3) some kind of a parka or jacket that is lightweight, warm, waterproof.
4) Hat
5) sunglasses
6) waterproof gloves
For the house-
1) a handle of something that youd like to share with the group.
2) Shower towel
3) Condoms... this should go without saying for most of you. the bunk bed room will really set the mood
4) Bed linens (?) - the house description says that the beds dont have linens, whatever that means. Maybe the house has a history of bed bug problems? who knows. feel free to bring your linens/pillows to the house.
4) Whatever else you usually bring on getaway trips, i dont know.
Now as far as costs go:
Currently we have 11 people. The cost of the house is $1000 for the weekend + $400 security deposit. This comes out to $127 per person unless more people join in on the fun. I will collect this amount from you this weekend unless you pay me on paypal beforehand. Assuming I get my full deposit back, $36 of the $127 will be refundable to you after the trip.
Ski lift and rentals - I assume the ski lift ticket and rentals will probably run around $110/person on Saturday. I will call tomorrow to see if I can get a group discount.
Gas/Booze/Food - Please factor in about $100-$150 extra for all of these costs, although its a bit unknown. We will make pancakes and eggs Saturday and Sunday morning for the whole group (I assume everyone would like this idea) Also Saturday night I think we should have a big cook out on the deck of the house - again we will do the shopping for everything in Killington and split the costs among the group for our group meals.
.....
With that said, Im sure Im forgetting some important details. Ill keep you posted throughout the coming days if I can think of anythiing important that the group needs to know. Feel free to call/text me with any questions. Thanks
Gregory"
P.S. JIllian and Jack will you pls forward to Max and Zach, Paul and Kevin as I dont have their e-mail addresses.
This e-mail I discovered in my fiances inbox. His brother wrote it and never included me. As you can see there is more planned than just skiing - even the road trip alone is fun, and their excuse as to not mentioning me is that "i cant ski because of my knee". which is true i have miniscus damage, but there are other things you can do besides ski! there is only 4 hours of skiing in 3 days they are doing! My fiance and I have argued alot lately, but look at all they are doing. Skiing never consists of ONLY skiing. Would you be hurt by this e-mai you found? What would you do, how would you feel? His brother got mad at me for asking why I was not invited and that he is going to tell my fiance that I am spazzing out. He said "there youre invited now." but my feelings were hurt because they are planning all this fun stuff without me and not even my Fiance invited me. I feel so hurt inside over this. So hurt. What do you think? Here is the email above:
Even when my Fiance told me about the trip (but not the details) he didnt say I should go with him. He just said "my brother invited me to a group ski trip"
For all of you that disagree with me not reading my Fiances e-mails, we both read each others. There is no room for secrets in a relationship and I fully expected the e-mail to be sent to me and when I saw in this morning it wasnt there, I checked, and had every single right to know the details that were not discussed with me as they should have been in any relationship.
Answer: I would be hurt. My husband has done this to me before.....not with a vacation but out to dinner, going to a friends house or out to the bar, etc. My husband said that he didn't invite me because he didn't think I'd have fun or want to go anyway. I told him it would've been nice to be invited and let me decide what I'd think would be fun or not. He's made a point to invite me now.
I would just sit down with your fiance and calmly tell him that you know everyone thought that you wouldn't want to go because of your knee but you still would have liked to make that decision yourself. Forgive the brother and the fiance. Everyone can screw up once. I don't know if I would go, though, now that you're officially invited. Whatever you choose to do don't hold a grudge. It happened, you told them your feelings and let it be over with. If they do it again then you have a real issue.

Question regarding my Running Speed?
Hi there,
First off, this is not to be bragging, but I just want some opinions or conclusions.
I´ve got a question about my running speed, it sounds weird but I always thought I´ve been extremely fast for no reason, I almost never train or whatsoever.
The last time I measured it was about 7-8 meters per second.
Today I ran from a place to my house, looked it up on Google Maps later, the distance was close to 400 meters. I was listening to my mp3 at the time and also used it as a stopwatch, it was a bit over 40 seconds.
What do you think?
Answer: A little bit over 40 seconds... weird, considering that the world record is 43 seconds for 400 meters. Next time, fully measure out 400 meters and run that instead to get an accurate time. If your getting under 50 seconds with no training whatsoever, you need to start training cause you could be heading into olympic territory. If it's over 50 seconds but under 1:00 minute, its very good, very fast, and if you train you can still be very good, lower olympic chance level though. This all depends on how old you are though... middle school, high school, 20 years old?

Soooo iul be staying there from 12th of may untill 20th june, ive never been there or to the U.S., iul be travelling from montreal, canada,
Sooooo first of all i need a cheap place to stay in for the month (n a bit), besides that what am i looking at here money wise ?
Thanks in advance for any answers :)
Miami was the closest on the list to where am going ...
Answer: You are talking about Broward County, Florida. Possibly the city you want to search about online is Fort Lauderdale. Most businesses use that as a key word regardless of whether they are in Lauderdale proper. Cheap hotels are around $40 per night. As long as you stay west of Federal Highway you should be fine. Coral Springs is nearby, and generally a more expensive town. Margate may be a little cheaper. While generally a safer place then Miami, if you find a hotel that looks seedy and the neighborhood does, I'd stay away. There are some bad places in Broward.
However, I'd look in craigslist.com for ads. This is foreclosure central, and if you're lucky you might find someone trying to milk a few bucks from his investment condo before the bank takes it. It is not without risks, but the banks are often not completing foreclosures around here for months to years to avoid paying condo dues for units they can't sell quickly.
