I am thinking of moving to the US Virgin Islands, either St.Thomas or St.John. I am trying to do research of which island would be best for me.. I am a single girl in my 20s and would be moving by myself. I want the safest place possible where there would be people my age. If St.Thomas is the better choice for me what part of the island should I move? St.John? Any suggestions would help!
Answer: St Thomas has far more to do on it and is much bigger and cheaper to live on however safety wise I would have to say St John is safer with much less crime. There are alot of people living there in your age range and it would be pretty easy to meet people. Aside from that, it is the more beautiful of the Islands! I am jealous and wish I had the guts to pack up and move there. The truely safest of the Virgin Islands would be the British Virgin Islands. They do not allow you to live there without working so there are no homeless people and virtually no crime. The worst you will find is people who are selling drugs. Hey, everyone has to make a living somehow, right?!

My boyfriend and I planning to island hop between the Caribbean Islands, starting at Puerto Rico, working our way South, getting back to the center and then heading North again. I have heard of mail boats and some ferries, but, more specifically what is the best (and cheapest) way to get from island to island?
Answer: The ferries are the cheapest, but you won't get to all the Islands that way. To see them all you'll eventually have to take local planes. Frequently though, the price of airfare goes down as more people book the flights. What Is The Cheapest Way To Travel Between The Hawaian ISLANDS?

Im going to Hawaii in a few weeks, and I want to see as many of the Islands as possible, but I dont know the cheapest mode of traveling between the Islands. Ive heard Hawaii recently established a ferry system that connects the Islands, but I dont know its cost. I also heard local pilots will jump you from island to island but I dont know their cost. And finally, I dont know if I can take my rental car aboard their ferry system. Someone that knows Hawaii well, please answer.
Answer: The superferry runs at a low cost to each passenger. The most you can expect to spend even during peak season is 70 dollars per person and $110 for a large van. Rates for the Hawaii Superferry change depending on the season, age of passenger, size of vehicle. Right now interisland flights from a big company will run you from $100 to $120 round trip. you can talk to some people and try to find cheaper rates but it all depends on when you are going!

What Hawaiian ISLANDS should we rent a Jeep on?

My finance and I are going to the Islands of Maui, Kuai, and the big island on our honeymoon. We are planning on renting a car on all three and upgrading to a Jeep on the big island. Can we get away with not renting a car on any of the Islands? What about the Jeep, should we consider a Jeep on the other Islands?
Answer: It depends on where you stay but I think you're going to want a car on all of the Islands. The big island is a must, by the way. Whether you get a jeep or not is really just a preference thing. I had a jeep on Maui and we had the top off which made for interesting viewing looking up at the sky. On the Big Island there are some roads you might think a jeep would be needed, but if you read the fine print of the maps / rental agreement they basically say 'even if you have rented a Jeep, there are certain roads you are not allowed to take a rental car on'. If you just plan on staying in the hotel you might not need one on Kauai and / or Maui, but I think having one on each is probably worth it (they're pretty cheap out there).

Answer: Fiji isn't a single island but over 300 Islands. A few of them would be perfect for a honeymoon. Tahiti is very, very expensive right now - so unless you have a huge budget that would be out. While Bali does have some pretty areas, I wouldn't go there for my honeymoon. They have lots of touts and you will be hassled constantly. Parts of Bali are very polluted. How do these tiny airports in the Pacific ISLANDS cope if a Boeing 737 breaks down on the runway?

I was on holiday in Tanna Island, Vantuatu and the airport was tiny. It really only a arrivals hut with a few light bulbs and that was it. One runway. So if a big airliner suddenly requires major engine work on landing there, how on earth do they repair it? Tow it to the nearest barn? There are other pacific Islands and Islands around the world with very limited facilities, Tanna only had dirt tracks for roads, just wondering what happens!

Answer: I would go to Lindos in Rhodes,it is lovely,enough nightlife with plenty of bars and resturants but not tacky ,lovely beach. Lots of sightseeing , day trips toTurkey and boat trips. Or Skiathos - any resort is easy to get to Skiathos town, only problem is Skiathos is a small island so maybe not the easiest to get to, although direct flights from the UK. Lefkas is simply amazing! stay in Nidri, lively but not tacky ,wonderful harbour and fab restaurants, up market as it is popular with the yachting. Mykonos , is great very busy and fantastic beaches, but it is also more expensive and it is popular with the gay and tranvistites during the summer - having said that i went there with my hubbie and had a blast! but accommodation and eating and drinking wasa lot more than other Greek Islands, not great if you are buying rounds! Have fun, and also check what month you are going, Rhodes has the best sunshine record from may - october - but the others are more from mid june to mid september! xx

Another that has info about destinations all over the world is TripAdvisor.com. Frommer's and Fodor's both have on-line guidebooks and there's also Budget Travel. St. John is prettier and has more beautiful beaches than St. Thomas, I think, but it is pretty expensive. Most of the island is a National Park. There are camps there that are reasonably priced, by VI standards, but it's probably too late to reserve [Maho Bay and Cinnamon Bay camps]. Just a tip: you may want to ask your travel agent about trip insurance that covers problems resulting from hurricanes, since it IS hurricane season!
