What is the difference betwen Amish and MENNONITE womens clothing?
I think Amish women wear plain solid color dresses and always wear an apron, usually black or dark in color, and a bonnet. Mennonite women wear pastel dresses sometimes a floral print and do not have to wear an apron like Amish women. They also wear a bonnet most of the time
Answer: You are almost right. Amish youth wear an apron and they only wear bonnets to go out. They do, however wear a religious head covering. The color depends on the group, but for the most part, they wear dark colors.
The Mennonite description is spot on. The size and shape of the covering depends on the group but most conservative groups of Mennonites wear them.

Are their others out their who have went the MENNONITE faith>?
My husband and I were never born into the Mennonite faith. About a year ago, we became very close with God. He was calling for us to live a life that we never lived. We are now on our way of becoming strict Mennonites. We have joined a Mennonite church and are close to becoming baptized into the faith. I would just like to know if their are more like my husband and I out their.
Answer: First of all, to the person who accused the poster of being a troll, Mennonites can have computers and internet. It's Amish that can't (and yes, there's a difference). Even many of the stricter Mennonite denominations have electricity and computers.
I'm a Mennonite. I know a ton of what we call "non-organic" Mennonites (meaning not born into the church). There is some cultural aspect to it, but most of that is easy to pick up on. And Mennonites are very warm toward people who come to their churches.

Can anyone help me with a recipe from the MENNONITE cookbook?
I am looking for a recipe from the Mennonite cookbook for salt cookies. This is the only cookbook I am aware that it is in and dont have my copy anymore. Would appreciate if someone has this book if they could look up the recipe and post the ingredients. what are the beliefs about MENNONITE dating?
my neighbor is a Mennonite and he is around the same age as me. i am 16. he is really cute. and super nice and sweet. is it ok for a Mennonite boy to date a non-Mennonite girl? and if we did date would we be able to hold hands in public and kiss and stuff? and another thing i am a good christian girl.
Answer: Well, I am Mennonite and we don't have rules about dating. I think you're thinking of the Amish. Mennonites and Amish are not the same, but there are some more "conservative" Mennonites. I don't know what category he would fall under, but I am "moderate" Mennonite, which means I'm pretty much like a normal Christian person. I don't live in an exclusive community or dress a certain way or anything and I'm friends with non-Mennonites. I think you should ask him what he believes in and find out from him; it varies from church to church.

Honestly, I live where there is a large old order Mennonite population and a far larger percentage of Mennonite children are fat, compared to non-old order and non-Mennonite kids. I thought modern life was responsible for childhood obesity? These kids dont even have electricity in their homes.

I would like to have a conversation with a young MENNONITE woman (18-23) purely out of curiosity, any takers?
Im a 20 year old atheist from BC, Canada. Ive always been curious about the Mennonite way of life and I would like to have a casual conversation and ask some questions to a woman of the same age group.
Id prefer it not to turn into a conversation about religion, just about day to day things and feelings out of pure interest.
The chances of finding someone on the internet I know is probably slim to none, but ya never know!
Answer: I took a group of Unitarian Universalist teen agers to a Dunkard (Old German Baptist) church years ago. They were happy to talk with us. They are slightly more liberal than Mennonites.
If you call the Mennonites near you, explain your interest, dress modestly, visit and behave respectfully, you may meet someone in person you can talk to. If you feel the need to finesse, tell them your aunt does Genealogy, she has found that you have Mennonite ancestors in the early 1800's, and you are curious.
Note I am not 18 - 23, not a woman and not a Mennonite. I am a genealogist with Mennonite ancestors.

How do I join a MENNONITE church if there are none nearby?
I was not born Mennonite but I have reasearched a lot and agree with their beliefs. I am currently Baptist. I want to be Plain Mennonite but I cant find a church nearby. There has to be one somewhere because I have seen Plain Mennonites in the stores.
Answer: You may have seen German Baptists as well. There are several groups of them in Ohio, Indiana, and Kansas, and probably other states as well. They dress similar to Mennonites and have many similar beliefs. I believe they both came from the Anabaptist reformation movement in Europe.
My grandparents were Mennonite, and I have a lot of admiration for them. They have a lot of good qualities and their sense of community and practical Christianity causes them to shine as lights in a dark world.
One reservation I have about them though, the Plain Mennonites in particular, is that their rules tend to be a distraction from the true Christian message. When outsiders see the way they dress and the other restrictions that they place on themselves, it tends to be an obstacle to joining their faith. The gospel is "offensive" enough with it's requirement of repentance without adding a lot of intimidating rules to it.
Having said that though, I can't help but think that perhaps God does have a reason for allowing groups like this to flourish. God loves diversity and uniqueness, and the Mennonites and Amish certainly are unique. But if you decide to join, I don't know how much of an evangelistic impact you will be able to have. Just remember - it's not about keeping a bunch of rules, it's about walking in the Spirit. I.e., behaving like Christ because you are becoming like Christ.

A MENNONITE blog sharing what the MENNONITEs are really like
This is a Mennonite blog written by a former Mennonite discussing what the Mennonites are really like and what they do.
Whats the main differences between MENNONITE and Amish?
Like as far as rules, dress, lifestyle etc... I take it Mennonite is not as strict but has many of the same aspects as Amish? Do the men have to grow beards in the Mennonite religion and does everyone go barefoot like the amish do? I take they both live there separate communitys?
Answer: The Amish broke off from the Anabaptist Mennonites in 1693. They felt the people were abandoning the basic religion by adopting man's ways, including his inventions. Their religious beliefs are largely the same, a form of early baptist. The term, Anabaptist refers to being re-baptized. In Switzerland, where the groups originated, the state church demanded baptism as infants, something which the Mennonites essentially rejected. They felt that a person should freely commit their own lives to the religious ideals, which means that they needed to be fully aware of the teachings and what it means to live according to those teachings.
Basically, the Mennonites (most of them) continued to move forward in terms of adopting to modern ways. It is not unusual to find a Mennonite sitting in the pilot's seat of a commercial jet. But there is still a group of "old order" Mennonites, whose life style is similar to the Amish. The major difference lies in the women's dresses. Amish use no patterns in their fabrics, thus being called the plain people, while Mennonite Old Order women will wear dresses with a subdued pattern.
I'm not sure where Good Entity got their information, but there are no facts in it. The Mennonites were persecuted for disobedience to the state religion, not for unethical business practices. They do business with the "English" as well as their own and their prices are reasonable, the same for everyone. My ancestors were Mennonites and came to this country in the early 1700s. We often take the byways in Mennonite and Amish country to discover those wonderful home stores that sell to each other and to the public. I have found them to be a very friendly people, waving at us "English" from their buggies as we drive by in our SUV.

Whats the difference between a Lutheran and a MENNONITE?
my boyfriend is Mennonite, but hes not the type that wears suspenders and doesnt believe in electicity or cars and stuff. hes normal. i just wondered what the difference is in what we believe? im lutheran.
Answer: Mennonites believe that salvation is something we choose for ourselves when we have reached an age where we are able to reason. Therefore, they do not baptize infants. Mennonites also reject all forms of baptism other than full immersion. This is the most critically important difference, because it means that his church considers your baptism to be completely invalid. If you were baptized as an infant or not fully immersed (probably both true since you're Lutheran), to join his church you would have to renounce your prior baptism and be re-baptized.
Now here is where it starts to get a little tricky, because some of this depends on your boyfriend's church and just how conservative it is. Some Mennonites are quite open, almost like Evangelicals, but others (even without the plain clothes) can be very hard-core in their beliefs. Depending on the flavor of his congregation, they may not consider you to be a Christian at all. At the very least, some individual members will have their doubts.
Mennonites don't believe in the sacraments. Rather, they believe that Baptism and Communion are "ordinances"--things we do to declare our obedience to God and our fellowship with other Christians.
As far as day-to-day practice goes, Mennonites are very different from Lutherans. The center of their practice is the Christian's obedience to God, while for Lutherans the center of our practice is the gifts God gives us in Word and Sacrament. Since obedience is the center of Mennonite practice, you will find them to be very rules-oriented compared to Lutherans.
For example, it is typical for Mennonites to completely abstain from alcohol and tobacco. Movies and television may be discouraged, though that is not as true as it used to be. They also believe it is sin to swear an oath in court, and pacifism is an article of faith in most Mennonite churches.
I say all this as an outsider. I had a fair amount of contact with Mennonites years ago, but the ones I knew were Old Order Mennonites, dressed plain and didn't have television, though they did have most modern conveniences. Your boyfriend is obviously not in that group; but even so, you will find the Mennonite churches to be a completely different experience from your own.
The people in your boyfriend's church probably don't see themselves as rule-driven because they're comparing themselves to Amish and Old Order Mennonites; but with your Lutheran upbringing, you'll probably discover all kinds of unwritten rules that will make you crazy.
If your boyfriend is not super-conservative, it would probably be easier for him personally to adjust to being a Lutheran. However, his family and friends might not take that well at all. It could be a real problem for him.
I don't mean to put a big downer on things; I just think it's important to look at the situation realistically. The differences run very deep. Make sure you go into this with your eyes open; and be sure that you and your boyfriend are communicating very openly about everything on this topic.

I am interested in Mennonite food like the cookbooks of Edna Stabler of Kitcheer,Ontario. However,
she does not go into any detail about wedding food for guests or a wedding cake. Can anybody enlighten me on what is served?
Answer: this is very interesting that you ask this! I am of Mennonite descent.(don't practice the religion though) and i come from a predominantly Mennonite community. to be honest, they don't really have wedding food. like a sit down meal. there is something called "faspa" which is usually served between lunch and dinner. and it normally consists of fresh buns, cheese, pickles, maybe sausage sometimes. deli meats. jams, butter, and generally an array of Mennonite sweets such as a platz. which is generally sort of like a crumble dessert, sort of... there are many variations. if you have any more questions i would be more than willing to answer them. my profile is private on here... but you can e mail me at jrt_kid@yahoo.ca
