My dream is to go to Times Square for New Years Eve and get proposed to. Well I guess the proposal is out of the question right now, but what are some good places to stay in NY? and should I drive there from Maryland? If I dont go to Times Square, then where should I go?
Answer: You should get there very early around 2 in the afternoon. It will be windy and cold and very very very crowded. If you don't mind any of that it is a great experience. I did it once when I was in high school many many years ago and still count it among my best life experience. Lots of people, lots of noise and lots of fun. Have a great time, it is generally very safe, lots of police. Dress warm, bring blankets.

I am planning to watch the ball drop on New Years eve LIVE in Times Square...wondering if there are any clubs/lounges/bars/parties in NYC with NO cover AND/or an OPEN Bar? Am I asking for too much?
Answer: In order to watch the ball drop, you need to be out in Times Square--not in a club. You need to get to Times Square no later than mid-afternoon, grab a space, and then stay in that space until midnight. You won't be able to move more than a few inches, and there are no toilets.

Going to Times Square for New Years Eve?

How much will going to Times Square for New Years Eve cost? Is there a fee to attend the group of people that go there on that day? I think this would be a awesome experience. Its just that I dont know the expenses to go. We would be coming from Pittsburgh, PA to Times Square NY.
Answer: I'm going to be there also for the first time! There is no fee to go if you're just standing in the street, but you'll have to get there extremely early (like 2 p.m. or earlier). You should also know that there are no bathroom facilities, so try to get a spot near a place that has a bathroom, so you can go in and buy something and stand in line for the bathroom. I've heard that people actually wear adult diapers! Not my cup of tea. There are also parties in TS at Olive Garden and TGI Fridays (like $250-$300 pp, I believe). We are going to one of those. There is unlimited food and drink, and they let you outside for 15 minutes or so before the ball drops.

Has anyone ever been to TIMES SQUARE NEW YEARS EVE? I have some questions bout it?

well first of all...can jus anybody go? It was a last minute decision and if we can get there we can attend rite? Also I live in ohio so I dont understand how parking would work. Is it like you just have to findsomewhereto park and walk miles or is there some kind of system set up??? Any advice from anyone who has gone before?
Answer: Anybody and go, and it's for free. But, it would take a bit of planning on your part. First, you'd have to arrive in Manhattan by about 2:00pm and look around for a garage that will be open until at least 1am. Figure on paying about $40-$50. Then, you'd walk over to Times Square, getting there between 3:00 and 4:00pm. You'll be herded into clusters where you'll stand until midnight. Once you're in place, you won't be able to move more than about six inches in any direction. There are no restrooms meaning that you'd better have an empty bladder. No backpacks or alcohol are allowed. Most years the temperature is bitter, but this year the forecast is for milder weather. Once midnight rolls around everyone cheers and then you'd walk back to your car. Have you thought about finding a place to stay the night or were you planning to immediately drive back to Ohio--figuring you'll probably be pretty tired from the drive in and then standing in place for 15 hours? The message--you can do it but without some planning and preparation it will likely be pretty bad.

i may possibly be going, how can i get these tickets i dont know where to look, and if not times square, does anyone know of anything to do in new york on new years eve, i know theres alot to do i just dont know what to do... and how expensive is it?
Answer: If you want to stand out in Times Square and watch the ball drop at midnight, you don't need a ticket--it's free and open to everyone. You just need to get there many hours in advance and grab a place to stand. Figure it to be very cold, and very packed with people.

This is for people who have been there in recent years only please. We are planning a trip to Times Square for New Years, but getting a hotel in Queens. My question is: How many people usually show up at Times Square? Also, what time do people start showing up down there for good spots? We want to be in the middle of the action but dont know what time people start getting there... Thanks!
Answer: This is one of those life experiences that is not worth the hassle. Transporation to and from Queens that night alone is going to be a nightmare. Thousands of people show up for New Years Eve in Times Square, people start showing up early in the morning if you want a spot remotely close to the "action" you will have to wait there for over 12 hours to wait and then see the whole New Years Eve experience. The people that perform are spread out in different areas of Times Square so everyone that performs you will not get to see or even hear for that matter. Leaving afterwards is going to be like walking in a drunk stampede.
