A Rebel In the Emperors Court
The Legislative Council of Hong Kong meets every Wednesday afternoon in a three-story building that looks like any state capitol, with standard-issue neo-Classical dome and high columns all around. From the councils roof, a statue representing justice brandishes a sword and raises a scale into the tall shadows cast by fabulously expensive - Daisann McLane profile of Leung Kwok-hung, better known as Long Hair, indefatigable, if eccentric, advocate for democracy in Hong Kong for more than 25 years and now an equally eccentric member of 60-member Legislative Council; says that while his election to council has given Long Hair a legitimacy he lacked before in seeking to improve lot of Hong Kongs poor, his ability and even ability of councils 25-member pro-democracy caucus to do much against Hong Kongs entrenched elite is severely restricted by constitution; photos (L) - Daisann McLane is a journalist who lives in New York and Hong Kong. Is this study abroad program to China worth it?
The program is "Art & Education" and the program director hates being confined to classrooms. The trip is to Beijing, Xian, Huxian, Shanghai, Guilin, Yangshuo, Guangzhou, Kowloon, and Hong Kong. We will see the Great wall, Forbidden City, Li river, and the Terra Cotta Warriors.
Now, this is for 15 days. I get 3-6 credits out of it.
-The program cost is $3975
- Does not include the actual flight TO China
-$250 Contingency fee and $175 study abroad fee
-Have to get my passport
- Actual class fee (maybe $800).... So over 5,000 before the flight.... IS IT WORTH IT??? Have always wanted to go to China or Japan though.. Thoughts?
4 Flights within China, food, 5 star hotel stay all included
Answer: no way is that worth it! I'll take Shanghai as a reference point to what I found
Housing: (tons of rooms to rent short term for 400 or less)
Airfare: 800-1400 at the most
Food: you can eat like a king with a variety of foods
Transportation and lodging to other cities (a hundred a day easily imo)
I mean I can go on but is 3 to 6 credits really worth it? when you can spend a fraction of it and stay there much much longer. If you really want to learn something, (calligraphy, kung fu, the language) there are TONS of places really cheap for these services. If you are one of those people where you hate to be alone when travelling, look up travelbuddies at sites like lonely planet. (one of the best travel sites there is) It seems like your school is just charging fees and such unnecessarily. I am planning to live in China after graduation and I am always excited to the planning process.

Should R&S be systematically purged for basically just being a spam-board?
Rather reminds me of the fate of Kowloon walled city in Hong Kong (oddly enough, featured in Shenmue 2).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kowloon_Walled_City
But to make my point more effectively.... look around you at what is taking place here.
Consider what Yahoo! Answers actually exists for.... How much of that is actually demonstrated here in R&S?
It is a shakey subject at best to discuss, but this is less a place of discussion and more a battlefield. Human nature itself wont allow that battle to simply end, especially given the number of participants.
This place has almost become an entity unto itself.... governed by its own set of social rules, enforced by rhetoric....
Does the original intention of the Yahoo! staff for this place even matter any more?
Should the whole board be purged and destroyed to maintain that vision...... or should R&S simply be allowed to continue on in its anarchic state?
Answer: I prefer anarchy...but that's just me. You don't think politics or any other section gets heated? I haven't been over there yet, but I would be shocked if they are having tea while quietly discussing pro-choice vs. pro-no choice or gay marriage...or how to balance the darn budget for that matter. :) :) hugs! and good morning...i need coffee.

I dont know about anyone else, but I think it would be awesome to live in a place like that. Idk if id like the whole "no law" thing as much, but living in buildings that are basically all one giant one, not being able to see the sun at ground level...for some reason that appeals to me. what about you?
Answer: yes....heard of it & actually being in it b4. i wasn't lived there but 1 of my primary school classmate do. so i used to went visited her there after school as i found it's a v funny place to go.
yeh our government is SUCKS!! they tear off everything w/ history so to allow those cold & cruel property groups to build up their money-making residentials.
anyway, the living standard in there was horrible. some flats even dun hv their own bathroom. n our old airport was there b4 in Kai Tak. so everytime once the plane flying ahead of my classmate's home. the flat wil shake a bit like earthquake.
