question about PRO BOWL VOTING?
Do you guys believe the fans should be stripped of the Pro bowl voting priviledge? Or at least a system be put in place that ensures only one vote per person? As all knows, 11 redskins got voted as starters, when in reality, clinton portis is the only deserving one. No matter what team this occurs for, it is pretty insane, and just shows how important the pro bowl is not. What are your thoughts?
Answer: Don't get me started - the current pro bowl system is a joke.
It should be limited to coaches. Period. End of story. Fan favorites are not always the best players, and the media is full of idiots who put bad ideas into fans and players about how good or bad a player actually is. Plus the Redskins campaigning is simply absurd.
12 players (half the team?!?) from a mediocre team voted as starters? 25 players from that same team finishing in the top 5 of fan voting? Please. I'm hoping this makes the NFL realize the ridiculousness of this procedure.
It's a slap in the face to many other deserving players.
Of course, once the coaches and players vote, the number should fall down to 2 or 3 players, but even so, it is ridiculous that the fans gave them such an early edge. Every 12 year old in the DC area probably voted for each of them 1,000 times over.

do players get voted to the pro bowl by stats or by popularity
Answer: Fans vote and most of them vote based on reputation otherwise Kellen Winslow would be there he leads all TES in receiving yards and doesnt get the nod and also willis McGahee is 4th in the league and doesnt get voted in. Leon Williams has a few kick returns and doesnt get in nor does Fred Taylor how did Addai get in over him? Fans shouldnt get to vote they have nno clue what their doing

Can someone make a valid argument for why Welker deserves a pro bowl spot?
I have seen tons of people state that Welker was snubbed in the Pro bowl voting. I would like to see a well written, logical explanation as to why Wes Welker deserves a pro bowl spot over the competition. Please dont just state opinions. Back them up with facts and stats.
Answer: It's pretty hard to make the case for Welker over the well-deserving AFC selections: Moss, Edwards, Wayne and Houshmanzadeh.
Moss: 87 receptions 19 TDs, 1342 yards
Wayne: 82 receptions, 9 TDs, 1243 yards
Edwards: 69 receptions, 13 TDs, 1170 yards
Houshmanzadeh: 101, 11 TDs, 1028 yards
Welker: 96 receptions, 8 TDs, 1004 yards
The only thing I can point to is that he's served in limited kick/punt return capacity, averaging 26.2 and 10.2 respectively. None of the others return kicks.
He and Moss were the only two not to lose a fumble. Thin, I know.
I discount Y/R and even YAC substantially because your routes make all the difference. Slot receiver numbers will always be quite different from those of the deep route receivers...
He's certainly in the discussion of worthy ALTERNATES, but he was not snubbed. The numbers speak for themselves.

-Fan Only(Fan vote 100%)
-Player Vote Only
-Coach Vote Only
-Sportswriters Only
-Fans/Sportswriters/Coaches/Players each get 1/4 vote
I dont know really. But the system now isnt too good. DeAngelo Williams was cheated. That guy has 20 touchdowns.
Answer: The last one.
You cant go purely on stats because for players like Nnamdi Asomugha, QBs never throw to his side, therefore they cant get the "sexy stats" everyone looks for. We cant go fan voting because they go off stats purely, before this season everyone was on the Antonio Cromartie bandwagon and never heard of Nnamdi Asomugha.
So either the last one or sports writers only, but only the good sports writers, the ones that acttually look at game film before judging players.

Anybody think that Greg Jennings and Derek Anderson got screwed in PRO BOWL VOTING?
Jennings has 12 receiving touchdowns and Derek Anderson is having a monster year for someone who was straight off the bench. Thoughts? Anyone else you think got hosed?
EDIT: Ill admit, maybe Taylor, but sorry Prince, but if you think David Garrard deserves to be in, youre way off. 2 interceptions are meaningless for Pro Bowl consideration when you only have 16 touchdowns and 2,300 yards on the year. Those are average stats.
Answer: Jennings would have been a good candidate and I was pulling for him. But I think Driver deserved it more because he has been a incredible WR and very underrated. He has been WR longer then Jennings and before this season, he wasn't really someone who everyone knew. Jennings will be there next season though. He has had an amazing season and has been very beneficial to the Packers WR core
Jennings is an alternative which means people do recognize what he has been doing this season.

Answer: Not necessarily. I imagine that almost every black person that voted, voted for Michael Vick, and because he is more of an exciting player than he is good, I imagine that a lot of kids voted for Vick as well. Vick has played well enough to earn a spot in the Pro Bowl, but he shouldn't be its top vote getter.
