Army? Navy?
I know mostly about the Army and nothing about the Navy except for the fact that they travel a lot. Which would be the better branch to join when it comes to deploytation rates, living quarters, etc.?

Answer: hmmm, don't know much about the Navy other than they have to get fleeted for 6 months at a time sometimes. Sounds pretty crappy to me, but then again I am in the Army and things here are pretty crappy too. Army probably deploys more, and probably have worse living quarters.

What is the difference between the Army, Navy, Military, etc?
What is the difference between joining the Army, Navy, & the Military?
Answer: Army is an armed force where you fight on land.
Navy is where you fight on the sea and the air (aircraft carriers)
Air Force is where you fight in the air (there haven't been any dogfights in a while so its just night missions most of the time).
Marines is where you fight on land and sea.
Military is all the armed forces put together. It's a nation's defense.

how can you become a commissioned officer in the US army, navy and airforce?
prince William(england) is an officer in the Royal Navy and a lieutenant in the British Army, he is also training to become a royal air force pilot.
Is this possible in the US?
Answer: No. There is no royal privilege in the US.
The process is generally one of these.
1. Go to college. Get a 4-year degree (or higher). Apply in one of the branches for OCS (Officer Candidate School). If you make it through OCS, you can get your commission.
2. Go to college in an ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program. There, as part of your curriculum you'll learn about the military in general and about the branch that's sponsoring the program. The military will pick most or all of the tuition and maybe even give you a small stipend. In return you commit to six (I think) years in that branch. If you fail to make it as an officer, I believe you get to spend your commitment as an enlisted person.
3. Go to one of the service Academies. This is highly competitive and requires the support of your elected representative. There too, your tuition is paid for and you are allowed a stipend while attending for which you commit to a certain number of years as an officer.
4. Enlist. Work your way up through the enlisted ranks. Eventually you might make officer rank. Probably the slowest.
5. I believe all the services have programs whereby an enlistee, if accepted into the program, is effectively stationed at college where he studies and gets his degree on the military. After he graduates I believe he attends OCS and receives his commission. Probably the most practical, and beneficial and to the services.

How are the US Navy and US Army different?
I heard that there are four divisions, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Seals. I think the Seals are the Navy Seals and I think this refers to the Seals as being the soldiers of the Navy. I could figure out what the Air Force is.
But what really doesnt make sense is the Navy and the Seals are considered the ships, planes, and helicopters along with the soldiers. But the Army is considered the tanks, the planes helicopters and the soldiers.
But why is there just one name and division.
Also why isnt the Navy and Army just one division?
Are the soldiers divided between the Navy and Army?
Why is the Seals a whole division?
And are the missions that each division deals with based on terrain or ether if its fought on land or water?
So does this mean that the Navy was the only one fighting in Vietnam and WW2 in the pacific?
Or did the Army fight in Europe in WW1 and WW2?
This doesnt make sense and i know im wrong, i guess unless im right, then the concept itself is senseless. I dunno, just answer
Answer: You're confusing the SEALs with the Marine Corps. The five branches (divisions) of the US Military are: Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The Navy and Marine Corps are in the same department (the Department of the Navy), and the Coast Guard is as well during wartime. The Marines are considered the infantry of the Navy; they're primarily a specialized amphibious assault group that was historically "first to fight" as they were on the Navy's ships already, unlike the historically slower Army.
The Navy SEALs are special operations forces within the Navy and are seperate from the Marine Corps. (The Marine Corps also has special operations capable units, which are based around Marine Force Recon troops. The Air Force has combat controllers, pararescuemen, combat weathermen, etc. The Army has Rangers, Green Berets, etc.)
Service Descriptions:
Navy: Primarily a sea-going force, though it includes a considerable aviation component, mostly planes that fly off air craft carriers (floating air strips). They also have special operations forces that conduct all sorts of warfare. Those guys, the SEALs, are likely who you saw jumping out of the aircraft to fight on land.
Coast Guard: Usually under the Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard is tasked with policing and protecting US waters and US interests and serves as a maritime police force and maritime search and rescue force (the latter along with the Air Force National Guard). The Coast Guard has some aviation presence, primarily in the form of rescue helicopters.
Air Force: The US's main aviation force, responsible to fighter jets, bombers, mass transports, cyber-warfare, space warfare, and nuclear capabilities. With the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, more and more Airmen are cross-training to fill ground support and combat functions with the Army and Marine Corps. The Air Force also has impressive special operations forces, including combat controllers and pararescuemen. The former is sort of a highly-trained combat air traffic controller and the latter is an elite airborne combat rescuer and combat medic that also carries out other special operations missions.
Marine Corps: Under the Department of the Navy, the Marine Corps is primarily an amphibious assault, rapidly deploying, light infantry service. In the past conflicts, the Marines have diverged more and more from amphibious assault (rather obsolete in land-locked countries like Afghanistan). It depends on the Navy for many support roles, up to and including all medical personnel. It also has special forces, though their participation in the US Special Forces Command is relatively new. It also has an aviation wing, though does not include the bombing or mass transport capabilities of the Air Force.
Army: The US's main ground combat force. It is much larger than the Marine Corps and includes all of its own support personnel. Supposedly, it's the slower-moving "shaft of the spear" where the Marine Corps is the tip of that spear. In reality, the Army has light infantry units and is working of lightening its entire force. Further, it has many specially training soldiers, from elite infantry troops like Rangers to special operations units. Further, they've done many amphibious assaults in their time, most notably D-Day, which was an Army (not Marine Corps) operation. Special Operations units in all branches have many of the same capabilities, though their missions can differ.

How do Army/Navy marriages work?
I am currently in Army ROTC, and my boyfriend is in the Navy. Im thinking about getting married after I graduate from college and become an Army officer, which will be significantly higher than his rank. Will this even possible or will the Army/Navy consider it to be "fraternizing"?
Answer: Inter-service marriages are a very bad idea. You two will never see eash other. Marriage between an enlisted and a commissioned officer were not allowed when was in. I doubt if they are now.
