How do I get from Baltimore to Washington DC on MLK day?
I need to get from Baltimore to Washington, DC on Martin Luther King Day. Normally I believe the best way is on the MARC train but this does not appear to operate on Mlk day. I could also go on Saturday rather than Monday. I am looking for the cheapest way to do it. Thanks.
Answer: There is a metrobus (express) that connects BWI to the metro. It's just over $3 one way. Not super fast, you'd want Amtrak for that, but much much cheaper. Check out wmata.com. The site has a great trip planner, but be sure to plug in the dates too since MKL day would put metro on a holiday schedule.

Rare are the moments in history when it is clear that history is being made. Tuesday was a day for clarity. In a thousand unseen moments, people knew. How did MLK earn a living while working as an activist?
My daughter has recently learned to equate work with money and is learning about Mlk at school around same time and has asked me a question I have no clue about! How did Mlk earn a salary while working as an activist? Did he remain on the payroll at his church or did he receive financial support from others to do his work?
Answer: Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to the civil rights movement. He did draw a small salary from the church where he ministered. He and his family lived on a very tight budget. He was indeed a man who could walk the walk, rather than just talk the talk.

What are the politics behind relating the WSO and MLK?
Few Americans even know facts about Mlk. He very much likely would not have been assassinated had he not have been with one of his many mistresses. Yet, he is viewed as so righteous as are the WSO. I doubt anyone reading this would like the WSO living in a public park near them.
Just what are the politics behind the scenes. I have my own idea but I wish to know how others feel.

How come Liberals ignore the bad side of MLK?
Mlk was a horrible womanizer, had obvious communist ties and is an alleged plagiarist.
How come we never hear about this in the liberal media or education system?
Answer: I heard a judge ordered all evidence of his shenanigans be sealed up in a time capsule for 50 years. I do not know about that as I have not had motivation to see what came of it. Rumor has it that he used church tithing to hire prostitutes. It is hard to find the evidence because nobody is allowed to say or do anything that might hurt him. I may look into it one day. As for now, I just think he is a boring plagiarizer.

What can we do at work for the MLK day of service?
I work for a large company and we work the Mlk day of service. The HR department has asked for suggestions on what we can DO. What can we do as a group that we would not have to leave our building to complete. Any Ideas?
thank you for the suggestions so far. I am really looking for volunteer suggestions. Ex. Last year we created blankets for children in the local hospital through Project Linus.
Answer: You want your cake and eat it to. Have your company let you off. There a lot widows that need there roof shingled. There are 2nd graders that need mentoring. There are teachers that need help in the classroom. There are elderly that need grocery shopping done for them. There are poor churches that need painting inside so the people can worship.

Do you think that Obama has the right to invoke MLK tones of speech when he is giving speeches?
Do you think that he is trying to invoke passion among blacks on a subtle basis? I love Mlk and I dont want anyone to think that they are the new Mlk. Martin cannot be replaced by a junior senator, his background is totally different thant Obama. Growing up in Atlanta in the deep south is different than growing up in Chi-town and in Indonesia and Kenya.
Answer: He is a politician. The closer election day gets, the more tactics they will use. Earlier on, their TV commercials revolved around how good THEY are, as we get closer, the commercials revolve around how bad THE OTHERS are. Of course Obama will play the "black" card, just as Hilary will play the "woman" card, etc., etc. In a loose race, with a clear winner, it wouldn't be an issue, but as things get tighter, they'll say and do whatever will get them elected. Kiss as many hands and shake as many babies as they can. Personally, I'm not really excited over any of them, but they can't do any more damage than King George has - hopefully one of them can clean up all the messes he's made. If I WAS in the "hot seat" and had to pick, I'd go with Hilary for prez, with Obama for vice prez. Hell, the Clinton years weren't too bad, and you know who was running the White House then - Bill was too busy chasing tail.

What was the exact words of the MLK quote?
There was a quote by Mlk I believe that said something akin to "racism will not be perpetuated by the bigots, but by the laziness of the people not to stand up and say that it wont be tolerated..." Something like that...I think that it is so fitting when we consider the prospect of having a Black president. The people who would vote for a Black president, but say that America is not ready are far more dangerous to sinking a canidacy then the bigots themselves. Can anyone help?
Answer: I think that a Black president IS a danger to the United States. Can you name ANY country whose fortunes turned upward after gaining a Black president?
South Africa under Nelson Mandela? No.
Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe? No.
Haiti under any of its Black presidents? Nope!
Black presidents have, all of them, been disasters for their countries. It might have something to do with their heritable qualities.
This was true even in ancient times. Ancient Egypt was a White country for its first 2800 years. Its first Black pharaoh was Piye, first of Egypt's 25th dynasty (752BC), who was also King of Nubia. Egypt had endured for thousands of years, but hardly did it acquire its first Black dynasty than it was conquered by Sargon II of Assyria. So, tell me, was "diversity" good for Egypt?
Now, of course, many Blacks resident in the United States for more than seven years are probably somewhat better in character than IDI AMIN, but we'd do well even to avoid such a one as Mary Frances Berry, former head of the US Civil Rights Commission. Why? A quote...
"Civil rights laws were not passed to protect the rights of white men and do not apply to them." - Mary Frances Berry, 1991.
How about one of those Black preachers we hear too much from?
"What we need is the destruction of whiteness, which is the source of human misery in the world." - Reverend James Cone.
A president, you know, is a republic's top executive, which means that he's in charge of all law enforcement in the country (assisted, of course, by his attorney general). But suppose we got a Black president like Amiri Baraka?
"You can't steal nothin' from a white man, he's already stole it, he owes you anything you want, even his life. All the stores will open up if you will say the magic words. The magic words are: Up against the wall m-therf-cker this is a stick up!" - Amiri Baraka.
Or Malcom X?
"The death of over 120 white people is a very beautiful thing." - Malcolm X.
When a Black becomes a judge, how does she conduct herself? Frederica Massiah-Jackson, a female Black judge on Philadelphia's Court of Common Pleas, habitually let Black convicts off easy while imposing the maximum sentence on White ones. In one case, she cited as an aggravating circumstance that the defendant was "a Caucasian."
When a Black is actually elected as an executive leader in his jurisdiction, what sort of attitude does he take?
"I don't care about your idiot children." - Willie Brown, Black Mayor of San Francisco to a White parent at a public meeting. Published in The Social Contract, Summer 1998.
I have personal knowledge about a Black deputy sheriff of Greene County, Ohio, who chased a White motorcyclist down and abused him because the motorcyclist had grinned at the sheriff as they passed each other on the freeway.
I have personal knowledge about a Black security chief at a Wal-Mart in Atlanta, Georgia, who made up a false accusation of shoplifting against a White customer and was caught perjuring himself in court... and nothing was done about it. The White defendant proved himself innocent, but was convicted anyway by a jury composed mostly of Blacks.
And when was the last time your heard about a WHITE minister in an ostensibly Christian church calling for a riot?
To give authority to a Black is to ensure that it will be abused. So, no. Don't expect me ever to vote for a Black US president.
I have to wonder about the intelligence of anyone who regards Michael King, Jr. (he never changed his name legally to "Martin Luther") as any sort of moral example. He was even more corrupt than most Black males are. He was a plagiarizer who cheated his way through school. He was an adulterer who spent his last night alive in the Lorraine motel having sex with two women (neither of them his wife) and beating up on a third woman. He was a communist who tried to get a Marxist class war started in the United States. And THIS is your shining example? This is your MODEL Black man? Very funny!

What are good project ideas for MLK day of service?
I am attempting to plan an event on Mlk Day for a group of teenagers and adults. We dont want to have to coordinate with any other organization, so were not looking to help out at a food pantry, etc. We would like to do something ourselves. If you have any ideas that might work well for a mixed group, Id love to hear them!
Answer: It's hard to organize a project without the help of an established organization, but here are some possible ideas...
Adopt a street/highway in your area and organize a clean-up
Rake lawns for the elderly
Peer tutoring
Community clean-up (you may want to contact the city about this one, but you could organize it yourselves with their permission)
Teacher appreciation luncheon
Assemble Care packages for servicemen and women
Collect recycling if your area doesn't have curbside pickup
Collect books for donation to schools/library
Collect coats to give to Goodwill/other charitable organization
Collect things that animal shelters would need and then donate the items to the shelter (you should ask what they need beforehand; a good idea would be to set up in front of a store (like Petco), but make sure to ask permission)
Adopt a Preschool
Grafitti removal
Getting people to donate anything for a good cause
etc.
I admire your initiative to try to start a service project.

Mlk criticized capitalism as a racist system in speeches and his writings.

What does MLK and Obama have to do with sports?
There must be some connection because ESPN has been constantly doing pieces about Mlk and Obama. Is Obama Mlk now? Is he Jesus? Is he leading the Democrats to the Super Bowl? What is ESPN trying to do here?
M O, Obama is the most athletic president ever?!?! Wasnt Gerald Ford a college football player at Michigan? Jeez, the legal of Obama grows. Wait until he walks on water tomorrow and brings back people from the dead.
Answer: Well Mlk DOES have something to do with Obama, in that Mlk was trying to bring EQUAL rights to all. Obama has nothing to do with Mlk and both have nothing to do with sports. To be honest I'm getting sick of hearing about Obama. I'm really sick of the whole he's the first black President thing too. If he wants to heal the nation, as he claims, then he wouldn't want to be considered black. Racism will never end if we acknowledge race, and that goes for ALL races.
