JACKIE ROBINSON?
My cousin is doing a report on Jackie robinson. Does anyone know what contributions in made to the U.S.?
Answer: In 1947, Jackie robinson was playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The co-owner (don't know name) was looking for a man perfect to break the color barrier of big league baseball. He found Jackie a few years earlier playing in the negro-league. He asked Jackie to play so he played on the Dodger's minor league team, then he went to the Dodgers. He had to undergo extensive questioning by the co-owner and was just right because he refused to fight back to taunts and critisism. He just played ball. He played, then retired (don't know dates). He then died of diabetes. In 1997, his number (42) was officially retired. He broke the color barriers and became a hero for his confidence and his teammates and many citizens of the US respected him.

JACKIE ROBINSON's Birthday: Remembering A Pioneer
Jackie robinson, who would have been 93 today, one said that "a life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives," Jackie robinson said. By that measure, his own life was monumental.
What is your opinion on JACKIE ROBINSON and the impact he had on African American and Baseball History?
Im African American and Jackie robinson is my favorite player of all time. Now of course Im not old enough to have seen him played, but from what Ive seen and heard he was just in incredible figure. I know this question is a day late, but I just wanted to get you guys opinions. I think the way he paved the way for so many people in sports and just in life in general is absolutely remarkable. So I just wanted to take some time out to reflect on it.
Thoughts?
Peace!
Answer: When I was little and learned about Jackie robinson I honestly always just thought of him as the great man was the reason why so many talented African Americans are allowed to play baseball. But as I got older I learned it wasnt just what he did to baseball. He went through so much crap I think I could never get through. From racial slurs by not only the fans but his teammates. Im honest enough to say I would have walked away from baseball but he didnt. He sacrificed himself for many people.
If it wasnt for him I would never have got to see so many amazing African-American players in my favorite sport. And most of all, Its great to see that people remember what he did and celebrate a day thats teaches young kids how much of an impact he made in the sport they play. Its just shows people how much he loved the game.

JACKIE ROBINSON?
Did Jackie robinson break the color barrier in baseball, or is it the owner that signed him that broke the barrier?
Answer: Jack Roosevelt "Jackie" Robinson (January 31, 1919 – October 24, 1972) became the first African-American Major League Baseball player of the modern era in 1947.[1] The Baseball Hall of Fame inducted Robinson in 1962 and he was a member of six World Series teams. Jackie earned six consecutive All-Star Game nominations and won several awards during his career. In 1947, Robinson won The Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award and the first MLB Rookie of the Year Award Award. Two years later, Jackie was awarded his first National League MVP Award. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Jackie robinson was also a forerunner of the Civil Rights Movement. He was a key figure in the establishment and growth of the Freedom Bank, an African-American owned and controlled entity, in the 1960s. He also wrote a syndicated newspaper column for a number of years, in which he was an outspoken supporter of Martin Luther King Jr. and, to a lesser degree, Malcolm X.[2]
Robinson actively campaigned for a number of politicians, including both Democrat Hubert Humphrey, and Republican Richard Nixon.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Robinson posthumously received a Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.[2]
On April 15, 1997, the 50 year anniversary of his debut in the MLB, Major League Baseball retired the number 42, the number Robinson wore, in recognition of his accomplishments both on the field and off the field.[3] In 1950, he was the subject of a film biography, The Jackie robinson Story, in which he played himself. He became a political activist in his post-playing days.

How do you make a JACKIE ROBINSON sculpture?
I have a high school project (Junior) and Im trying to make a sculpture out of Jackie robinson, but i dont know how/where to start, and with what to use.
Answer: The first step is to gather reference photos.
Then decide on a pose and chose an age from you photos.
By age - young or older. Some performer had a long career.
Choose what material you will make the sculpture out of. Also decide on how big the sculpture will be.
You might want to make sketches or maybe a macket (a small sculpture) that is mainly the pose so you can use it to figure out the pose and any engineering that you will need in the final sculpture.
These are just some preliminary steps
If you are doing something about 15 inches high or so
you can use wood, ceramics, polymer clay.
With polymer clay you will need to build an armature.
I don't know what resources you have at school.
Talk to your instructor.
I am a member of a potter studio and I also take ceramic classes. So I would make a small to medium piece in a stoneware clay and have it fired. Doing a figure in clay has some concerns. I could say more if I know what pose you are going to do and if you specify a size. If I were to try something big I would make an armature of pipes and hardware cloth - or chicken wire. I would then start to work in plaster
Here is a list of places you may want to check out]

Who is a better player roberto clemente or JACKIE ROBINSON?
Now im not talking about who did more for the game and the people. Im talking statistically who was better and why. I personally think roberto edges Jackie when your talking about raw skill. While robinson had more power, Roberto Clemente had everything else.
Answer: Robinson was a more patient hitter than Clemente and a far better base stealer, but Clemente was an solid fielder with a plus arm in right field. Offensively, they're a push but Clemente gets the nod because of his wonderful right arm.

In what ways did JACKIE ROBINSON change the game of baseball?
I believe that Jackie robinson changed baseball because he made sure that diversity occured in the sport. I believe that Robinson contributions is one of the reasons why baseball has become an international sport with players from all over the world playing for Major League Baseball.
Answer: He changed the game forever by almost forcing the MLB to allow minorities into the game of baseball. He went through a lot of things day of day to overcome the challenge and play hard. Robinson changed the game forever when he became the MVP proving not only can a minority play at the same level but can be the best at the same level. Unfortunately, Robinson also caused an end to the Negro Leagues which was a very competitive league and fun to watch. Robinson gave thousands of people across America that there was hope for no more segregation. He gave many minority children dreams to play in the Majors.

Is JACKIE ROBINSON the most overrated baseball player of all time?
Jackie robinson was a product of the Brooklyn Dodger PR machine and the Truman White House. I read a study once where Jackies "official statistics" were compared with the actual box scores published in the paper. The study proved that his lifetime batting average was actually 23 points lower! In 1949 when he allegedly won the batting title with an average of .342 he really hit .295. Why arent more people aware of these outlandish lies?
Answer: That study could be interesting -- citation?
Because baseball stat geeks are interested in accurate records of history (hoo boy, are they), and have essentially no political bias when it comes to the statistics.
And Robinson is one of the most thoroughly scrutinized players in history. Were these allegations reliable, they likely would have come to light by now.
No, Robinson is not the most overrated baseball player of all time.
It does look like there are some outlandish lies sloping about, however.
