What kind of ECU would be good for a 1992 c1500?

Just wanting to know a good performance Ecu that could replace my stock Ecu. I dont really understand if there are replacement or just add on computers/ performance chips or what to do with the Ecu.
Answer: im not realy sure if it will add performance but check out MSD they make some prety good products for ignition and Ecu, you can find it on jegs.com and summitracing.com they should have it on there or you could look at chipping or reprograming your stock Ecu to get a little bit more power but the programers never give you as much power as they say they will.

Can an faulty ECU make your car not circulate water threw the engine?

Im doing a engine swap and my old engine did not circulate water and has a cracked block. anyway this new engine (using the old Ecu/wriring harness) is doing the same thing any ideas the car is a bmw 318is e30 and the engine is a e36 93 bmw 318i both are m42 im using a different water pump than the old engine, and currently i have no antifreeze in the car just water.
Answer: Why did your original block get cracked??? These engines are basically bullet proof. Remember that eventually you MUST use genuine BMW coolant in these guys. Anything else begins to corrupt the expensive cooling system. Check to see if the "old" engine had a water pump with a separated impeller. Buy a genuine "HEPU" pump from Germany. It has a metal impeller and can take stress better. The Ecu has NOTHING to do with this. You DO have a fan relay, though.Good luck!!

I am confused on how to tune your own Ecu after a turbo, cold air induction, supercharger, etc upgrade within your engine. I have heard it is extremely difficult. Can anyone explain this to me?

how does the ECU in modern vehicles determine when to fire injectors and spark coils?

I know that the Crank position sensor and Throttle position sensor come into play, but are there any other ways or alternate methods? Ive heard of cars running without a throttle positon sensor and not having any issue other than warped shifting from the EST Auto Tranny. Without a TPS, how does the Ecu know how much to adjust the injectors for increased throttle?
Answer: The TPS is only used to detect sudden throttle changes like when you hit the gas to pass someone and to detect WOT. The rest of the time the injectors are based on the main fuel metering setup which is either speed-density with MAP (manifold air pressure) and IAT (intake air temp) sensors or mass air based using a MAF or a mechanical airflow meter with feedback to fine tune (trim) the mixture coming from the upstream oxygen sensors. Spark timing, dwell, and advance are based on RPM and intake manifold pressure with feedback from the knock sensors. The problem with a TPS (which is usually just a simple potentiometer) is that when it goes bad (think old crackling volume knob) the output voltage can jump all over the place which the Ecu interprets as sudden throttle position changes and causes the whole system to go haywire.

Trying to figure out what Ecu came with the honda civic ex, its a D16z6, because one of my friends that I bought the car from might have gave me the wrong Ecu, I think Im suppose to have the P28 but he said he gave me the right Ecu.
Answer: Okay let me break it down for you, Yes the P28 does come stock in the 92-95 Civic Si (hatchback) or 92-95 Civic Ex (sedan/coupe) but you need to make sure you get a manual version of the Ecu, because there is a automatic P28 as well. Honda Ecu #'s are like this, 37820-P28-A01 (or similar) Honda's part number for Ecu, which is always 37820. Three characters (which are loosely related to the model of car/engine). e.g P28. Three characters (which are the revision of the Ecu) e.g. A01 or G52. Middle 3 Numbers ID which Ecu it is. The last 3 characters are broken down into 3 parts. "A" generally is used for US Ecus. "G" is European, and "J" is Japanese. There are other versions of this, but you get the idea. The second digit "0" typically means manual transmission, where a "5" means automatic transmission, and the last digit "1" is the version number. so A01 would mean "A" US "0" manual transmission and "1" would be the first version of this Ecu.

Answer: Its Ecu is plug and play so you can get a ECM from a same model, engine size and year. It will work. Or you can send the Ecu out for rebuilt. I remember it costs around US$150 to rebuild it. Please search Mazda Ecu rebuilt. You will find some place. There is one in Sacramento, CA I used to send Ecu there for rebuilt.

How much would it cost to reprogram the ECU of my car?

I have a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt because I needed a cheap car. However, its power is disappointing. How much would it cost to reprogram the Ecu of a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, and assuming that I am not going to just get a new car (I know some of you are wanting to tell me to do that...), would it be worth it?
Answer: no it would not be worth it. You probably will not gain anything powerwise, and just lose the money on the chip...assuming if the chip doesn't ruin your car. You will also void your warranty and the dealer may even not even do recall or defect work that would otherwise be free, even if it's unrelated to your Ecu. I would suggest you just save the money for gas and tires, and perhaps suspension parts. After the car is broken in and you've switched to synthetic fluids, just floor it more often. The Ecu may learn a bit from your driving habits and give you a bit more power. That being said, if you got the cobalt SS which has a turbocharger, then that is a whole different story. It looks like you could definitely tune that car with Ecu mapping to adjust the boost. I have a project that requires logging data from a vehicle, but i need to know how often approximately the Ecu reads its engine sensors. Answer: You mean the other way around, How quickly does the vehicles Sensors update the PCM? Sensors are inputs to the PCM and actuators/solenoids and motors are outputs from the PCM! Sensors such as the O2 sensor can update as fast as 150 times per second! ADDED @ Doug W For a guy that wants to correct somebody you sure don't have very many best answers! And what are your credentials?. And evidently you don't know too much about fuel control on a closed loop feedback system, average injector pulse width at id ldle is 2.5ms average o2 response time is 10-50ms The PCM continuously looks at O2 voltage and makes continuous corrections in fuel trim, This is one reason that scan tools have a buffer cache built into the because they can not update all the PID's as fast as the class 2 serial datastream can deliver it!

What is the difference between an ECM and ECU?

Im having a problem with my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT, The cooling fan stays on all the time, even when I first start the car. This morning was in the low 50s and the fan kicked in straight away. I was reading online that this problem may be caused by the Ecu. About a year and a half ago I had the ECM replaced. SO Im wondering if Ecu and ECM are the same thing. Id like to get this covered by warranty. My car has 62k. Miles. Thanks for the help.
Answer: they are one in the same. It sounds like you may have a fan relay switch stuck...check this first...it should be in a box located under the hood on the drives side...it will be marked relays and/or fuses. Hope this helps.

Answer: No, the gt4 is turbo'd so the Ecu will be totally different internally, even if it looks the same on the outside. It probably won't even run but if it did the fuel and ignition maps would be all wrong for your engine.

Answer: if you want a stand alone you are going to pay $1,400 for a AEM EMS, or $1,600 or a Hydra Nemesis, or $2,000+ for anything Motec. Now after that you will have AT LEAST $1,000 in labor and tuning just on the engine management, and another $5,000+ in turbo then another $2,000+ in NECESSARY upgrades like axles, clutch and other stuff like that, So what was your budget again?

Id like to set up the Ecu of my Corsa 2007. It has an electronic acceleration system, and I want to make it more sensitive. Ive heard of one tip such as "put the start switch on the ON position and back to OFF for 5 times. It should restart your Ecu", but Id like to find a more serious source, if possible. Answer: I'm not sure, but what I know that what you have done is in purpose to do a diagnostic witout OBD, and set evrything to factory setting if there is something not right. In Nissan, specially X-trail, it's depend on how you drive after you turn the key to turning on. If you aggresive, then the computer set the acceleration to aggresive. If you fuel saver, the computer will follow. If you don't mind, use a piggyback to satisfying the desire on the Corsa.
