Is anyone else disturbed by FRANK MILLERs apparent hatred for Arabs?
I still love almost all of Frank millers work, from Daredevil to Dark Knight to Martha Washington to Sin City. But 300 really disturbed me because it seems that Frank has jumped on the anti-Arab bandwagon. Now Ive read his wikipedia article which contains some full out racist quotes about Arabs, and Im definitely scared to see his upcoming Batman vs. Al Qaeda series. If he was talking about any other ethnic group he could never get away with it.

Question about comic book writer FRANK MILLER?
Aside from the fact that his early work was revolutionary in the way that it was dark and violent during a time period when comics were typically childish, what is it about his writing style or technique that makes people think Frank miller is a great writer?
I want to know because I have always been baffled by his renown. I very seriously consider him to be one of the worst published writers I have ever read.
In response to the first answer I received: In the case of Frank miller, it truly seems to me like literally EVERYONE loves his work. Both fans, critics, and his fellow authors alike.
Answer: This is homework, but whatever.
People just prefer his books, not everybody is going to like a certain author.

How does FRANK MILLER do his art?
I mean like from the graphic novels such as sin city. Is it screen printed?
Answer: ...In 1991 Miller started work on his first Sin City story. Serialized in Dark Horse Presents #51-62, Miller wrote and drew the story in black and white to emphasize its film noir origins. Proving to be another success, the story was released in a trade paperback. This first Sin City "yarn" was re-released in 2005 under the name The Hard Goodbye. Sin City proved to be Miller's main project for much of the remainder of the decade, as Miller told more Sin City stories within this noir world of his creation, in the process helping to revitalize the crime comics genre.[citation needed] Sin City proved artistically auspicious for Miller and ...

How does FRANK MILLER know what happened to Jason Todd(2nd Robin) in The Dark Knight Returns?
So Im reading Frank millers landmark Batman collection, The Dark Knight Returns. In the series Batman gives the job of Robin to a new girl. Alfred warns him against taking a new Robin by saying something along the lines of "Dont you remember what happened to Jason?" Jason Todd was the 2nd Robin who ended up being killed by the Joker. The thing is, The Dark Knight Returns was published in 1986 and the Joker killed Jason Todd in 1989. So what the heck is Alfred talking about?
Answer: Frank miller didn't know that they were going to kill off Jason Todd 3 years later - but it was important to his story "The Dark Knight Returns" that Jason was dead, so that the new Robin could be introduced. Also so that Batman had a reason for retiring, he was brooding over Jason's death.
Notice that in "Dark Knight Returns", there's no mention of HOW Jason was killed. But maybe the suggestion that Jason was dead in the future influenced the creators to kill him in the present, 3 years later in 1989. But since Batman didn't retire afterward, the stories don't quite fit together perfectly.
Frank miller just got lucky. Hindsight is always 20/20. Remember that
his story takes place far into the future - he didn't say exactly WHEN Jason died either. But Jason Todd is alive again now in the DC Universe, so again the stories don't seem to fit together...

What do readers think is so good about FRANK MILLERs writing?
I have read a bunch of his graphic novels (for example- Dark Knight Returns, Batman:Year One, Sin City), some of them several times, trying to find something good about them. But I swear his writing is so badly pretentious, like the way teenagers write when theyre trying really hard to come across as a good writer. It absolutely blows my mind that this guy is so highly regarded as a masterful author. People really buy into his "deep", "dark" narrative tone??? He sounds like a goth teenager trying to shock the reader.
I mean seriously, this guy is considered to be one of the the BEST writers in the comics medium - And I swear I think he is not only not the best, but actually the WORST.
Answer: well i have only read Road to Perdition so far but i thought that it was brilliant and intend to read more!!!

I was thinking of buy a FRANK MILLER graphic novel?
I dont normally read comics, but I kinda wanted to have one laying around to read from time to time.
I was thinking Dark Knight Returns, or Batman Year One or one of those.
Which one do you think is better.
Or if you have any graphic novel really, that you might suggest.
Answer: I haven't read lots of Frank miller's books, but I have read The Dark Knight Returns and 300. I really enjoyed reading The Dark Knight Returns, but I didn't like 300 very much(even though I really liked the movie). I'm planning on getting Batman:Year One. Watchmen or V For Vendetta by Alan Moore are also very good books, but they don't have tons of action and fighting like The Dark Knight Returns or 300.

Is FRANK MILLER writing a new Sin City?
There hasnt been a Sin City graphic novel for a while and Im wondering if Miller has stopped or hes still going?
Answer: With the success of the movie Sin City, there was renewed attention to Miller. A sequel and proposed TV series would not only adapt existing stories, but new stories written by Miller. Miller will also be finishing a new story for the film sequel of Sin City; a story which he worked on during the '90s, but never published. So it is possibly in the works
He is also currently writing All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder - which is running behind schedule. Last year, it was announced that Miller would direct a film version of Will Eisner's The Spirit.
Another project that was announced but has not seen the light of day is Jesus! Years ago, he started talking about a comic book version of the life of Jesus.

FRANK MILLER?
Is there anyone else in the world besides me who thinks that Frank miller is a bad writer? He is a well known, highly respected writer of comics and graphic novels. Everyone thinks hes one of the best writers in the field. However, I am so perplexed by this because Ive read a lot of his works (Batman: Year One, Dark Knight Returns, Sin City) and I think that he is one of the WORST published authors Ive ever read (let alone not a GREAT writer like everyone thinks). To me, his writing sounds like it was done by a 15 year old goth kid trying way too hard to sound deep and dark and trying too hard to shock the reader at every turn with extreme violence or "gritty" one-liners. Its not that I dont love a good violent story, but I think his writing is just plain poorly writen. Does anyone else see his work the way I do? ANYONE????
Answer: Frank miller writes about societies, emotions, relationships and states of being. He's mainly interested in the darker side of those things. Most especially he writes about people who do bad things for good reasons, people who do bad things because they can't help themselves, and societies built out of corruption and self-interest.
At its best his writing shows us the hypocrisy and deceit inside ourselves, the risks of letting those things drive our actions, and our ability to (sometimes) overcome our own limitations and do something good despite our own worse nature.
But his writing misses out on a lot, too. It misses out telling about people who live good lives just because they *can*; people who are content though they don't have much; people who are smart and caring and capable, communities that are healthy and vibrant and nourishing.
His stories don't show us many good role-models, and they don't encourage us to trust the trustworthy, to respect the respectable or to invest in our social institutions.
These stories have a lot of appeal to disaffected teenagers and cynical adults - nobody ever went poor cashing in on such sentiments. But there's more to life than this, and so his writing won't be for everyone, and most people won't want to read just those sort of messages all the time.

I thought there was nothing wrong with the movie. Its not The Dark Knight, but it wasnt supposed to be a "serious" comic book movie. people went into it thinking they were gonna get a jaw dropping, filled with action, comic book movie.
Answer: I haven't seen it yet, because it looked pretty naff from the ads (apart from all the hot women of course).
But what's wrong with wanting a jaw-dropping, action-filled, comic book movie? Sounds reasonable to me.
The problem is people were probably expecting Sin City 2 due to the similar visuals.
