Name as many players as you can that played under JOHN WOODEN?
Name as many players as you can that played under John wooden at UCLA.
Answer: Good question: I'll list them sort of chronologically as best I can off the top of my head
Pre-championships
Willie Naulls
(there were a few other players who had NBA career and played for Wooden during the 1950s, but I don't remember their names)
From first couple of NCAA championship teams
Gail Goodrich
Keith Erickson
Walt Hazzard (later known as Mahdi Abdul-Rahman)
Alcindor Era:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then known as Lew Alcindor)
Edgar Lacey (defensive specialist, teammate of Kareem)
Lucius Allen
Mike Lynn
Lynn Shackelford
Ken Heitz
Between Alcindor and Walton:
Steve Patterson (played center post-Alcindor, pre-Walton)
Sidney Wicks
Curtis Rowe
Walton era:
Bill Walton
Henry Bibby
Keith Wilkes (later knows as Jamaal Wilkes)
Swen Nater (Walton's backup, had a good NBA career)
Greg Lee (Walton had nothing but praise for this guy)
David Meyers (brother of Hall of Famer Ann Meyers, who was an all-time great in women's basketball. Ann later married Don Drysdale)
Wooden's final championship team:
Richard Washington
Ralph Drollinger
Pete Trgovich (I think that's how he spelled it)
Andre McCarter
Marques Johnson
I think that all of these guys had at least some kind of an NBA "career", a few didn't last long, but most of them did have decent pro careers.
Henry Bibby became the 2nd player in NBA history to win an NCAA championship one year (1972) and an NBA championship in the following season (1973, with the Knicks). Bill Russell was the first, of course... since then, I think only Magic Johnson (Michigan State '79 Lakers '80) and Billy Thompson (Louisville 1986 Lakers 1987) have done that.
Henry Bibby is the father of Mike Bibby. Bill Walton is, of course, the father of Luke Walton.

George Steinbrenner or JOHN WOODEN. Who had more impact on their sport and why?
In 2010 we lost a number of sports figures. Perhaps the most well-known were John wooden for basketball and George Steinbrenner for baseball. Which had the most impact on their sport? Why do you think so?
Answer: Let's see, George Steinbrenner won 6 WS titles with the Yankees, but in the process lost the Yankees probably another six. Too bad he also jacked up free agent salaries like crazy. Not true greatness in my opinion.
Wooden? Most championships by a college coach, an absolutely sick record winning streak that will probably never be broken in men's beasketball and a guy loved by anyone who ever dealt with him.
Not a tough choice.

Here is the quote:
"A player who makes a team great is more valuable than a great player."
Do you agree or disagree?
Who are some current NBA players "who makes a team great"?
Answer: Absolutely agree with the 'Wizard of Westwood'. John wooden is a genius.
Somebody mentioned Tim Duncan but I'll second him as a player who makes his team great.
But Manu Ginobili should get mentioned here as fitting Wooden's quote. Each season Manu starts the season as a starter. At some point in the season, Pop asks Manu to move to the bench to provide a offensive and defensive 'spark'. So Manu, a two time All Star and Olympian gold medal winner comes off the bench.
Manu is "a player who make a team great..." by his unselfishness.

By Penn State fan standards, should JOHN WOODEN have coached UCLA basketball until he died?
Class act John wooden retired in the 1970s, when he was in his 60s, after a hugely successful career at UCLA. Now Joe Pa is hanging on at Penn State in his 80s, unable to form clear, complete sentences when being interviewed, and the program has been mediocre for a long time. Regardless, Penn State fans get extremely angry when one suggests that Joe Pa be nudged out into retirement. By their logic, should Wooden have hung on until the bitter end?
Answer: "... unable to form clear, complete sentences when being interviewed, and the program has been mediocre for a long time." His brain's still sharper than yours will ever be.
"... and the program has been mediocre for a long time." What misinformed world do you live in?
Why do you think you should be deciding who does what in this world? Who the hell are you? Why does it bother you? Does it make your self respect feel good by being negative and mocking someone or something?
BTW, your logic comparing the Wooden situation to Paterno's is badly flawed. If Wooden wanted to coach into his 80s, as long as he produced, he would have been there. The comparison isn't valid.
