Like for example, I live in Chicago and the weather in the US generally moves from west to east, so I could contact someone in say South Dakota and ask them about their weather because I might get it within a day. Or do you just prefer to get it on the news?

What, exactly, is the point of the Chicago Marathon?

On Saturday, a son & a nephew planned to run the Chicago Marathon the next morning. The weather forecast was very clear: it was going to be hot, no ifs, ands or buts. I told my wife that I was very concerned about the anticipated temperature, and expected that deaths could occur during this race, and that perhaps my family members could spend all of this energy doing something that was actually constructive and useful to society. To nobodys surprise, a death did indeed occur during the race, and many were hospitalized. My nephew was reportedly puking his guts out by the half way point. Medical tents were full and supplies of water and Gatorade ran out. A decision was made at some point to tell the slower runners that they could no complete the race if they had not reached the half-way point by a certain time, and other runners were instructed to walk the last few miles of this race. Clearly this race has nothing to do with good health. What is the point?
Answer: the chicago marathon is like any marathon. people have goals and personal reasons for running any sort of marathon. Some do it for health, some for others, some for themselves. the marathon is the milestone that many hope to achieve. now with the chicago marathon it was really hot and it was advised that people should take it easy. they could not simply close a spectacular event but the heat and taken a toll on people and required something to be done for the safety of runners. but it goes to show that with the temperatures, people still went out determined to run that race. the sickness and exhaustion just happened to occur and it was unfortunate. but shows how important the marathon was to the people.

Christmas was less than two weeks ago, but you could easily be fooled into thinking it's late April, as the temperature nears a record high for this wintertime date.

How is it that the forecast low temperature for a given day can be higher than the current temperature?

Is it because the forecast low temperature is an average of the lowest temperatures for a specific window of time, and not the actual absolute lowest recorded temperature for the day? Im in Chicago and the forecast today calls for a low of 17 degrees and a high of 26 degrees, but the current actual temperature is 3 degrees not including the windchill factor, which is -11. All readings are from Weather.com. Thanks.
Answer: Frequently the low temperature refers to the lowest nighttime temperature and the high refers to the high daytime temperature. This is usually how the temperatures work, with the low temperature at night and high temp in day. In relatively rare weather change condition, a warm air mass can be replaced by a cold air mass, resulting in the nightime temperature being warmer than the daytime temperature. It isn't all that common, although it does happen. When you watch or read a waether report, it is unstated but usually what is meant that the low is the low nighttime temperature and the high is the high daytime temperature.

why cant I get a weather report on the Weather Channel anymore?

Almost every time I tune in to the Weather Channel they got some show on the environment or a show about the Chicago fires. Hard to believe that it is nearly impossible to get a weather forecast from the Weather Channel, you cant make it up. Looks like they becoming the next MTV, Music Television with NO music, just garbage.
Answer: I agree. I grew up watching TWC (I am a weather fanatic) and I remember being able to watch the same information for hours. I'm not sure why they changed their business model, b/c the reason people would watch them was to quickly find out their local forecast. I guess they assume that since the internet is used so heavily now, there is no reason to run that same information on a repeat cycle like the 24 hour news outlets. Maybe one day they'll have a TWC2 channel? :)
