What factors enabled MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. and the civil rights movement to enjoy the success that they di?
I am doing an essay on MLK and the civil rights movement.
Here is my essay topic:
What factors enabled Martin luther king jr. and the civil rights movement to enjoy the success that they did?
I wanted to get other peoples input while also looking up my own information.
Thank you!
Answer: Their faith was the driving force.
MLK made that very explicit in his speeches, and used Christian scripture to justify the obligation to actively work for human rights.
There were, of course, plenty of people who put in the time and hard work for reasons other than faith, but it's well-documented that the majority of civil rights workers who actively worked for King came from church groups and individual volunteers who felt compelled to live their faith. King derived his authority and leadership from that appeal to faith, speaking at countless churches to recruit people who would be asked to face violence to make a difference.
If you're going to put yourself in harm's way, against dogs, water cannon, nightsticks, KKK, and crowds of violent mouthbreathers, you'll need a powerful motivating force to sustain you and give you a sense of the moral obligation of taking action.
Obviously, most churchgoers did not join the fight, just as most Americans did not, but opponents of civil rights burned down large numbers of churches over those years, and they knew what they were doing.
Imagine where civil rights in the US would be today, without MLK and those church groups.

What were the events or problems that impacted Martin Luther King Jr?
How has he contributed to society in a positive way?
How has Martin Luther King Jr inspired others to do something good?
Why do you think he deserves to be known as a Global citizen?
Answer: MLK, Jr. doesn't deserve to be known as a global citizen (whatever that means). If you saw what I saw, and know what I know, about the civil rights riots in Selma and Montgomery, AL, you wouldn't have any respect for the man. He caused horrible things to happen to both blacks and whites; they are the people who suffered, not MLK, Jr.
If anyone deserves global citizenship, it was Mrs. Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat and move to the back of a bus.

Martin Luther King, Jr., played an important role not only during the civil rights movement, but also in American history. What are sum ways that he impacted the lives of American citizens, and still continues to?
Answer: Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement. his main legacy was to secure progress on civil rights in the United States and he is frequently referenced as a human rights icon today. King is recognized as a Saint by two Christian churches.
a Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career. he led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president.
King's efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. There, he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.
in 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means. by the time of his death in 1968, he had refocused his efforts on ending poverty and opposing the Vietnam War, both from a religious perspective.
King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. he was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and Congressional Gold Medal in 2004. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a US national holiday in 1986.

How is Obamas speech the same or different than MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.s speech?
How is Obamas speech the same or different than Martin luther king jr.s speech? How do they compare and what are their similarities and differences?
Answer: They had completely different purposes.
Obama's speech was to mark the beginning of his term as President of the USA.
King's speech was something of a goodbye speech. He probably realized that his time could end soon, that he might not get to the "promised land" with his people; but they would get there.
King's speech was to inspire the Civil Rights Movement and to encourage people to work toward a country without racial prejudice.
King's speech was a great speech, which will be studied for decades, maybe longer.
Obama's speech was mediocre, but not bad.
Obama tells people not to expect quick improvement in our troubles.
King also implied the solution wouldn't be quick, but somehow he made that inspiring.
Obama briefly addressed a variety of issues facing the country.
King's focus was on one issue, unequal treatment of the races.
The inauguration of Obama is evidence that King was right, that his people would reach the promised land, in which people can be judged for themselves, not their skin color.

Is it true that Martin Luther King Jr was a registered Republican?
Also, is it true that Kennedy didnt want to release Martin Luther King Jr from jail because he didnt want to lose the white vote?
Answer: Maybe at one point, but the political climate really changed from the early-late sixties in terms of race relations, beginning with the Civil Rights bill of 1964, which both Democrats and Republicans worked on, but it was President Johnson (D) who actually signed it, which caused many Southern Democrats to revolt to the Republican party. Richard Nixon, the 1968 GOP nominee, made a real attempt to scoop up these voters with what was called the "Southern Strategy", which many considered racist. Supposedly, MLK was close to endorsing Bobby Kennedy before he was killed.

Answer: Both MLK Jr. and Malcom X, not Malcomb X, wanted more rights for African Americans. However, MLK Jr. used more passive means or through getting media attention, boycotting, sitting-in, and setting up marches. Malcolm X, on the other hand, mostly used violence against the whites to get what they want and he formed the group called the Black Panthers.
