How do you feel about the WEST MEMPHIS THREE?
Did you know that they got out today?
Answer: don't know a whole lot, but it is not odd that people get charged for things they did not do. this was high profile and when it is they are willing to grab anybody to point a finger at and convict to get the media and the public off their back. this is one of those cases.

Race of children in WEST MEMPHIS THREE case?
I never heard of this story but I see it will be on 48 hours tonight. Since this was in Memphis, I wondered did race play a role in this case? I see the three men but were the children of a different race?
Answer: The children were caucasian, as were the three men convicted for the murders. Race does not appear to have played a role in these crimes, but discrimination definitely did.

What do you think about freeing the WEST MEMPHIS THREE?
Do you think they are innocent, or guilty?
Answer: Well, with their plea, they are saying that even after 18 years the state still have enough evidence to convict them. So guilty.
People keep pointing to DNA, well all DNA can tell you this sample came from this person, nothing more nothing less. The police may not have collected DNA from the spot that held their DNA, it may not have been tested, it might not have been collected at all. So all DNA can say is this belongs to this person nothing more nothing less. It doesn't prove guilt or innocence.
So they were convicted once by twelve people, they admit in their plea that state has enough evidence to convict them again.
Once you are convicted its up to you to prove you are innocent, so all they needed and need to do is show that one of them wasn't there. What are the odds that three people can't find ONE person that would put any one of them them someplace else. Didn't anyone see them after 6 pm on May 5th not ONE? You have three people and they couldn't find one person to show any one of them was someplace else after 6pm?

Free West Memphis 3, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, Jessie Misskelley, false confessions, wrongful convictions
WEST MEMPHIS THREE--Do you think the system failed?
Not sure of what that means?
Basically three kids who walked a road scarcely traveled
Shortly after three eight-year-old boys were found mutilated and murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas, local newspapers stated the killers had been caught. The police assured the public that the three teenagers in custody were definitely responsible for these horrible crimes. Evidence?
The same police officers coerced an error-filled "confession" from Jessie Misskelley Jr., who is mentally handicapped. They subjected him to hours of questioning without counsel or parental consent, audio-taping only two fragments totaling 46 minutes. Jessie recanted it that evening, but it was too late Misskelley, Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols were all arrested on June 3, 1993, and convicted of murder in early 1994.
Although there was no physical evidence, murder weapon, motive, or connection to the victims, the prosecution pathetically resorted to presenting black hair and clothing, heavy metal t-shirts, and Stephen King novels as proof that the boys were sacrificed in a satanic cult ritual. Unfathomably, Echols was sentenced to death, Baldwin received life without parole, and Misskelley got life plus 40.
In the years since the convictions of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley for a crime they did not commit, their cause has gained support from all over the world, and these men have become known as the West memphis three. The story of the injustice they have endured at the hands of the state of Arkansas has never lost momentum, and in recent months, the evidence in their favor has grown to the point where its nearly impossible to view this case as anything other than a miscarriage of justice.
Teenagers at the time of their arrest in 1993, these young men were considered suspects in the gruesome triple child homicide and arrested without any evidence tying them to the crime. The police and the state managed to convince the media and the juries that "devil worshippers" were responsible, and that Damien, Jason and Jessie somehow fit that description. It was publicly stated by law enforcement officials and the media that the murders had been a part of a satanic ritual; a human sacrifice in the wooded areas of West Memphis, Arkansas. It seems unlikely that this would be accepted as motive by a contemporary jury, but once the police had a young, mentally challenged boy in their custody, they managed to coerce him into providing what was seen as a "confession" despite huge logic holes, discrepancies and the fact that he later recanted and refused
But it got so much worse after that, they were treated like animals, when they could not have commited such henious crimes.
my question to you, is do you believe that the system failed? and that the innocent were persecuted . Do you think that there is such a thing as innocence anymore, or is it all just about the money?
Answer: Short answer yes.
Three boys died and three young men spent half their lives in jail for something they didn't do.
There is no justice anywhere in this case.

We have a forum and I wanted to ask the general public if they think that Johnny Depp was right in defending the West memphis three

Answer: He's awesome and empathetic and decides to use his big name to help others, man. What's wrong about it? Nothing at all. The prosecuters clearly did not have enough evidence, man. Johnny Depp is a great artist (that's what he does, it's more than acting), but he's also a good man. Hell, it's probably something I'd do if I were in his shoes.

is the WEST MEMPHIS THREE ever gonna be freed?
ive been seeing shows about them on investigation discovery and i strongly believe that they arent guilty. will they ever be freed? and will one of the boys step father ever be convicted?
Answer: After 17 years, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jesse Misskelley, Jr. (known as the West memphis three) will be granted a new evidentiary hearing to prove their innocence of the 1994 murders of three 8-year-old boys in West Memphis, Arkansas.
DNA evidence conclusively shows no connection between the WM3 and the crime scene. Furthermore, there was juror misconduct of considering a recanted confession that wasn´t submitted into evidence that will be examined.
The Supreme Court granted the hearing after an appeal following a rejection by the original trial´s Circuit Court Judge David Burnett. Echol´s attorney´s will request the court bypass an evidentiary hearing and grant a new trial. }{

Any big developments in the WEST MEMPHIS THREE case?
Last I heard there was new DNA evidence that points to a new suspect, but that was about two years ago. Everyone knows Damien, Jason and Jessie are totally innocent for these crimes because it was practically impossible for them to do so. Jessies coerced confession, the prejudice of a small town, an inept police force and backwards justice system are the only reason these three are in prison today.

What do psychics say about the WEST MEMPHIS THREE trial, such as Sylvia Browne?
Rolla J, if you honestly believe they committed the crime, you are severely wrong.
There is no physical DNA evidence or any scientific proof that backs your statements.
I was asking a general question, but unfortunately - I got a general idiot.
Answer: I have lived in Memphis all my life and I kept up with this trial also. I cannot say without a doubt that they did it or not but I do know that they were convicted with no real physical evidence. Matter of fact, it was the only case I have ever seen ( and I have seen a lot of them) that there was a conviction with no real evidence complicated by the fact that there were no eyewitnesses. The Jessie Miskelley confession was used to convict them but there were many inconsistancies in it. I felt that if something like that cannot be used in its entirity then why use it at all? You cannot just cherrypick a testimony for the parts that suit you and leave the rest. Also, the three were convicted by the media before the trial ever began. They did not stand a chance of getting of getting a fair and unbiased trial within this area. It is sad that three boys lost their lives at such an early age and so violently but it would also be a tragedy if three other boys lost their lives by losing their freedom for a crime they did not commit.

What Do You Feel About The WEST MEMPHIS THREE?
Folks like Johnny Depp and Eddie Vedder are just some of the high-profile people who support a new look at the WM3 and the horrible murders of those three boys. Do you think one of the murdered boys stepfather should be looked at a bit closer, I read somewhere his wife shouted something at him about You killed my son. And one of the other murdered boys mother died and I havent been able to find details as to how...did she kill herself? It seems quite often people are wrongly convicted. I wonder if these three guys were railroaded.
Answer: Its a very interesting case, personally I think that, although they may have been railroaded and the evidence presented against them was pretty weak, they probably were guilty. There was one confession, although the kid confessing had a low IQ, and Damion Echols (sp?) acted very strangely after the trial, say that he would be remembered as the boogie man and that type of thing. Also since their conviction there haven't been any other similar killings in the area. So I have a mixed opinion. I don't really think they should have been convicted because it wasn't really shown that they did it beyond a reasonable doubt but personally I think they probably did it.

People keep pointing to DNA, well all DNA can tell you this sample came from this person, nothing more nothing less. And I'm sure the celebrities took the time to at least read the transcript of the trial, and look over the evidence. Yea right, they jumped on the latest cause, and they know better they 12 people and a judge who listened to the evidence, when I'm willing to bet they didn't read one word of the transcript, but they know they are innocent.
Please save me from celebrities with a cause, please.

Why are the WEST MEMPHIS THREE, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley still in prison?
Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley are known as the WM3. They have been in prison going on something like 17 years now for murdered 3 boys in West Memphis Arkansas. They didnt do it. DNA evidence shows they didnt do it. One of the step-fathers might have done it, either Terry Hobbs or Mark Byers. Im still waiting for Paradise Lost 3 to come out which is a documentary on the case. But why are these men still in prison?
Answer: Basically just because the state of Arkansas doesn't want to admit they made a mistake. Like Damien said, many of the people involved in convicting them got huge promotions because of this high profile case, and admitting they were wrong would mean they risk losing the fame and glory of it. Also, the judge hasn't agreed that there is enough evidence to constitute a new trial. Apparently evidence that not only points away from the three, but points toward a likely suspect isn't enough. And it's also not enough that the Jessie Misskelley confession was entirely false and almost everything he said was proven to be untrue. The judicial system is corrupt, especially in small towns like West Memphis, Arkansas, and who knows if anything will ever be done to fix it?
