How do I get my computer to synch up with my ATOMIC CLOCK?

I have a radio controlled Atomic clock, which is supposed to be as accurate as you can get, when it comes to time. I have two computers, and one of them is the same time as the clock, but the other one is always 2 minutes & 25 seconds off! This wouldnt be a big deal, but I work at a job where things have to happen every hour on the hour, and Im constantly having to reset the clock on the computer, to match the Atomic clock, so that the computer will start on time automatically. Any suggestions?
Answer: windows 2000/XP has the option to sync your time to an internet server but i don't think that will work so well, maybe if your computers are part of a domain controller then they're time will always be exactly the same. to enable internet time double click on the time in of the startmenu task bar. click the tab INTERNET TIME and check the box AUTOMATICALLY SYNCRONIZ WITH AN INTERNETTIME SERVER. see if that works otherwise try nettime although it is outdated. http://nettime.sourceforge.net/

How do I set the time zone on my Sharp SPC384D ATOMIC CLOCK?

A couple of years ago, I bought a Sharp SPC384D bedside alarm clock, which gets time signals from the NIST Atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado, which is THE legal standard for time keeping in the US. Recently, I had to change the batteries. As you might expect, the current time and date were wiped out when I did so. Once the new batteries were in place, I was able to reset the time and date without any real problems. I was not able, however, to reset the clock for the Central time zone, which is where I am living. Ive lost or mislaid the instructions for this silly thing, and I cant find any kind of website or online information about this clock, except where to buy it. They even keep time better than the rotation of the Earth and the movement of the stars. Without Atomic clocks, GPS navigation would be impossible, the Internet would not synchronize, and the position of the planets would not be known with enough accuracy for space probes and landers to be launched and monitored. Atomic clocks are not radioactive. They do not rely on atomic decay. Rather, they have an oscillating mass and a spring, just like ordinary clocks. The big difference between a standard clock in your home and an Atomic clock is that the oscillation in an Atomic clock is between the nucleus of an atom and the surrounding electrons. This oscillation is not exactly a parallel to the balance wheel and hairspring of a clockwork watch, but the fact is that both use oscillations to keep track of passing time. The oscillation frequencies within the atom are determined by the mass of the nucleus and the gravity and electrostatic "spring" between the positive charge on the nucleus and the electron cloud surrounding it. What Are The Types of Atomic clocks? Today, though there are different types of Atomic clocks, the principle behind all of them remains the same. The major difference is associated with the element used and the means of detecting when the energy level changes. The various types of Atomic clocks include: Cesium Atomic clocks employ a beam of cesium atoms. The clock separates cesium atoms of different energy levels by magnetic field. In 1999, NIST-F1 began operation with an uncertainty of 1.7 parts in 10 to the 15th power, or accuracy to about one second in 20 million years, making it the most accurate clock ever made (a distinction shared with a similar standard in Paris). How Is Atomic Time Measured? The correct frequency for the particular cesium resonance is now defined by international agreement as 9,192,631,770 Hz so that when divided by this number the output is exactly 1 Hz, or 1 cycle per second. The long-term accuracy achievable by modern cesium Atomic clocks (the most common type) is better than one second per one million years. Hydrogen Atomic clocks show a better short-term (one week) accuracy, approximately 10 times the accuracy of cesium Atomic clocks. Therefore, the Atomic clocks have increased the accuracy of time measurement about one million times in comparison with the measurements carried out by means of astronomical techniques. The National Company in Massachusetts produced the first commercial Atomic clocks using cesium. Today, they are produced by various manufacturers, including Hewlett Packard, Frequency Electronics, and FTS. New technology continues to improve performance. The most accurate laboratory cesium Atomic clocks are thousands of times better than commercially produced units.

bcoz without it the gps receiver can never get the accurate travel time of the signal from the gps. since the transmitted signal contain the transmitted time. So on receiving the signal at a particular time, it compute the travel time, hence the distance. But for this to happen the receiver clock has to be synchronized with the Atomic clock of the GPS. How this is done is unclear to me.
Answer: The short answer is you don't need to synchronise the clock on the GPS receiver with the clocks on the satellites. For example: It is exactly 12 midday. You look at the signals from two satellites. Satellite 1's signal says 'I'm located at this position in my orbit and the time is 12.00.00' Satellite 2's signal says 'I'm at this position and the time is 11.59.59' The Atomic clocks in the satellites are synchronised (at least in the sense that they are extremely accurate). But the times read by the reciever will not be the same because of the slight delay in that signal arriving. In the above case, Satellite 2 is further way so the signal you recieve is offset from that of Satellite 1. You're getting, if you like, the last tick of the clock on Satellite 2 because the current 12.00.00 tick signal is still in transit to you. The GPS signal contains information about where the satellites are. What the receiver does is take the known position of satellite 1 and the known position of satellite 2, and then work out where on the earth's surface it would have to be to get a 1 second delay (for the purposes of the example) in the signal. That only gives you one position, so you need at least another satellite to pinpoint your location. And of course the delays are extremely small.

Answer: Hi, you put the batteries back in and in a few hours it will set the time correctly. It doesn't use a satellite--just a local radio station, but it can take several hours to actually work. If the unit doesn't reset its time within one day put it next to a window and it should reset itself properly. Putting it next to a window allows the unit to receive the radio signal a lot better.

Are there any websites that will set your computer clock to an ATOMIC CLOCK?

Like, well, you go to the site, and it will automatically set your computer clock to an accurate Atomic clock somewhere else? Do you know what I mean? Does something like that exist, and if so, what is the link? Thanks in advance. Well ok...but still, are there websites to do this? In my opinion, it would be a lot easier for me to do it that way.

What time does an ATOMIC CLOCK reset itself for Daylights Savings?

I am curious of what time an Atomic clock will reset itself for Daylight Savings. This is from last April, 2008. I was under the belief it was predetermined at 3:00a.m. This is in the state of Kansas, and on the CST (-6) time zone. Sources to reputable sites are best.
Answer: They don't. UTC (coordinated universal time) just advances forward at one second per second. It never jumps forward or back an hour. The time zones themselves change their offset from UTC, so CST is -5, while CDT is -6. The official clocks do occasionally add leap seconds at the end of a day (23:59:60) to account for the gradual slowing of the rotation of the earth.

Why was the ATOMIC CLOCK located in Wyoming? And why does it run on cesium 150?

I know that the Atomic clock is not located in Wyoming anymore....but in my science class I have to write 1-2 paragraphs about these 2 questions. All I can find is information about the Atomic clock being in Colorado, and I cannot find anything about it running on cesium 150. So, if anyone can help me answer these questions I would GREATLY appreciate it!
