What I mean is, do TV producers normally accept scripts submitted by any outside source and use it and then (obviously) pay the writer? -- @ Rockcy Rock--> Really? How do you do?
Answer: The answer to your question is a bit complicated. Yes, and no. Television shows have a staff of writers that collaborate to write episodes. This includes the executive producer, showrunner, other producers, story editors, staff writers, and freelance writers. Now, for freelance writers who are looking for new work on a television show, they can submit scripts to a producer for consideration to be hired, but they do not submit episode ideas for that particular show. This is because there are multiple legal issues surrounding intellectual property and copyright. Basically, producers and studios do not want to get sued for copyright infringement, so they do not accept unsolicited material. When a freelancer submits a script, he or she typically writes an episode based on another show (often a show that is no longer running, but easily recognizable). If the producer likes the freelancer's work, then he or she may ask the writer to submit another script based on an assigned concept. Then, if the writer impresses the producer, he or she may be assigned to write an episode for that show. Not all scripts that freelancers turn in will be used. Sometimes the writer simply gets a fee for writing the script, but the episode is not made. Most episodes are written by the EP, showrunner, and story editors. Freelancers also usually have agents that submit the scripts on their behalf. Again, most studios and producers do not accept material from unsolicited sources due to legal issues. If you want to become a television writer, there a several steps that you must go through. The first is submitting work to a writers' agent to seek representation. Is it ethical or legal to download CURRENT TV episodes if one has the channel and a TiVo?

If someone has cable or satellite TV, and there is a particular TV show episode on a channel they have, is it legal to download the episode? Is it ethical? Assume that the person owns a TiVo or equivalent which they could use to record that episode and skip past the commercials. Just to clarify, I am talking about a person leaving their TV and TiVo OFF for the night, and choosing to download that nights episode from a torrent or warez site.
Answer: No it isnt legal. The only way it is legal is if the network that the TV show appears on puts it up for download themselves. The only downloads from torrent sites that are legal is if the author of the media intended it to be free for download. Since TV shows are not broadcasted online with the ability to download its not legal.
