THE GIVER by Lois Lowry - Book - Audiobook - Random House
When Jonas turns 12, he is singled out to receive special training from The giver. Now, it’s time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.
THE GIVERs ending can be interpreted in two ways? What is the evidence that supports them?
Perhaps Jonas is remembering his Christmas memory-one of the most beautiful that The giver transmitted to him-a he and Gabriel are freezing to death, falling into a dreamlike coma in the snow. Or perhaps Jonas does hear music and, with his special vision, is able to perceive the warm house where people are waiting to greet him.
Answer: My class was wondering the same thing when we read it, so we emailed the author and they said that they wanted it to be interpretted as a happy ending, but I think you can think of it as either way you want. I think the memory thing makes more sense personally.

FINDINGS; In Pursuit of the Perfect Gift? Its a Lot Closer Than You Think
Traditionalists and etiquette mavens are complaining, but the rest of us can thank social scientists this season. They have come up with experimental evidence to support three revolutionary rules for people who hate shopping for holiday gifts: 1. You dont have to spend any time looking for thoughtful gifts. 2. You dont have to spend much - Social scientists have found that overly thoughtful or lavish gift-giving is often more satisfying to The giver than the recipient; find most people would prefer to receive cash, or a gift-card that allows them to choose for themselves. How does the story THE GIVER affect my life or others around me?
Im writing an essay for my English class about the book called The giver By lois Lowry. On the rubric my teacher wrote down some stupid question we have to answer. Can you please help me!
1. What does the author want me to believe after reading this novel?
2. What significance does this novel have to my life or others?
3. what is the overall meaning of this story?
4. What is the purpose of this novel?
I know they are really not detailed but thats what it says so please help me out!! Thanks! :D
Answer: The author wants you to dislike controlled societies. The novel fits into a larger genre of cautionary tales called "dystopian literature." A utopia is a society in which everything is perfect, so a dystopia is the opposite: everything has gone wrong.

THE GIVER?!?
Who is "The giver" in the title, The giver?
We were having a discussion about this and who do you think they ar referring to. Jonas or The giver? Explain if you can.
Answer: The book is told from a third-person limited point of view. The protagonist, Jonas, is followed as he awaits the Ceremony of Twelve. Jonas lives in a standard family unit with his mother (a judge) and father (a "Nurturer"). He is selected to be "Receiver of Memory", because of his unusual "Capacity to See-Beyond", which is an ability to do something unusual, such as see color (which all the other people were genetically changed not to see) or hear music (Which was how the previous Receiver, or now The giver, was found. He had the Capacity to Hear-Beyond.). He trains for the position of Receiver by receiving memories from the aged incumbent (known to the community as "The Receiver", and to Jonas as "The giver") who is burdened by the emotional weight of the memories. These memories are images from the world before the time called Sameness, "back and back and back", things that no one else in Jonas's world remembers.

What does replacement child mean in THE GIVER?
Giver -> is a book.
I been reading it but I have no clue what replacement child means , thank you!
Answer: In the narrowest definition, a "replacement child" is a being who is intentionally conceived because an older sibling has recently died. Such substitutes must endure the lifetime burden of competing with a lost and often idealized child. Because it is almost impossible for them to please their parents, they easily become confused and frustrated, or worse. Here's a dry summary from a learned journal: "When bereaved parents give birth to a child or children subsequent to a perinatal death, their constructions of the family necessarily change. The subsequent child is thought to be at risk of psychopathology (the replacement child syndrome) if parents have not sufficiently grieved their losses." "At risk of psychopathology" is a hesitant, euphemistic formulation.
The term "replacement child" has also been defined more broadly: it may, for example, refer to any child in a family that has lost one or more of its offspring (rather than solely to one conceived as a direct consequence of a death). In an even larger sense of the term, there are all kinds of 'symbolic' replacements: one psychologist has gone so far as to suggest that any Jewish child born after the European holocaust should be so considered. This idea seems extreme.
