Whats to happen in 2012 when solar flares hit earths weak magnetic field due to pole shifting?
If the present magnetic shifting weakens earths barrier from space. What measures must be taken to survive?
Answer: Here's the good news--you've been feed a massive line of bull.
Solar flares can happen any time--if fact we had one just a couple of months ago. Flares by themselves do nothing. Sometimes a flare causes a "Coronal Mass Ejection"--think of it as a big bubble of charged particles. Even if there is a CME, if it's not pointed right at us, it doesn't affect us at all.
There is not a scientist alive who can say that we will be hit by a CME this month, let alone a whole year away. Anyone who tells you different is lying.
Now the second point--the "pole shift". The magnetic poles have shifted several times during the earth's history. But it's not like flipping a light switch. These reversals take hundreds or thousands of years to happen. If a reversal started today (which it hasn't yet), it's something that might in some way affect your great great grandchildren--and even then it's not a given. Again, anybody who says there will be a "pole shift" in 2012 is lying.
Since the scenario you've described is impossible (can't have a "pole shift" in a single year), there really is nothing to prepare for*.
*OK, that is sort of the "oversimplified" version. While you can't put any sort of timetable on it, there have been CME's that affected electrical power--most famously in 1989, when the province of Quebec lost electrical power for less than half a day. Even in that case, the power loss wasn't directly caused by the CME, but some of the power station controlling software misinterpreted a signal that resulted from the CME, and shut the system down when it shouldn't have. A problem that has now been fixed.
BTW, solar flares are more common when the sun is at it's maximum activity, which is next expected to happen in mid-2013 (not 2012 as the hoaxers would have you believe). People who actually study the sun say that all the indications are that this solar maximum will be less active than the last one, which happened in 2001. So if you're older than 10, you've already been through one maximum that was stronger than this one is expected to be.

When are there going to be solar flares in 2012?
Ok so Im a little worried about the solar flares rumors that i have been hearing r they true? If yes then what is the severity of them and where can u go in America that would be the safest place to be at that time?i heard Georgia but is that true?
Answer: There is typically a solar flare at a minimum every other week or so. Often times there will be one every single day. This has been going on for billions of years. I don't know how old you are but if you're old enough to be typing on a computer you have lived through literally hundreds if not thousands of solar flares in your life. The "safest" place to be is anywhere you want to be. Solar flares only affect electronics (unless you happen to be an astronaut traveling through deep space without the Earth's magnetic field to protect you). Typically the worst thing that could happen is a cell phone call gets dropped, or your cable TV goes out..... Absolute worst case scenario is electric company's power grid gets overloaded and the power goes out for a couple of hours, which actually has happened in the past. Wasn't a big deal then, isn't now, and won't be in the future. Don't buy into the hoaxes spread by morons.

Could we lose power and electricity from solar flares in 2012 for months could thousands die?
I watched some of Brad Meltzers decoded on the history channel and I know 2012 is the most asked question here but seriously what do you think is it all garbage? Many say its to alt its going to happen the ice is melting and we will cause tectonic plate shift wi massive earthquakes and the solar flares will put us back into the 16th century seems a bit drastic right?
Answer: Solar activity maxes out roughly every 11 years. The next max is expected by spring 2013, and it's expected to be weaker than average. Did thousands of people die from solar flares in 2001 and 2002? No, so I can't imagine why you'd worry about 2012-2013.
Melting ice and cataclysmic earthquakes in 2012 ---- mindless, baseless hysteria. Doomsayers will say anything. When their claims fail to happen, they'll hide for a while and re-emerge later with something else.

What are the odds of electrical issues from the 2012 solar flares?
Blackouts for days/weeks/months etc?
Answer: Old "News"
The Solar Flare scare has been moved to 2013.
The last time something like this happened was in March 1989 (two solar maximums ago) when the province of Quebec (in Canada) went without power for 9 hours.
Six million people affected, nine hours without power. Total number of deaths = 0.
Solar Flares cannot reach Earth (except, of course, in American movies -- e.g., "Knowing").
Solar flares are caused by strong magnetic fields at the surface of the sun. If, during a large flare, the loops of the local magnetic field are short-circuited, there is an event called "magnetic reconnection". This releases lots of energy.
Sometimes, that much energy sends out lots of material from the Sun's "atmosphere" just above the surface. A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)
CME are shot out quite often. Most of them miss us, of course. Every once in a while, we are hit and, most of the time, the charged particles will get trapped in our radiation belts (by our own magnetic field) and leak down into our atmosphere, giving us beautiful Northern Lights (or Southern Lights, if you live in the other hemisphere).
Sometimes, the CME will arrive with too much energy and push our magnetosphere a bit too far. If that happens, the magnetosphere snaps back, causing its own magnetic reconnection. It is this event that causes an electromagnetic pulse that can be picked up by power grids.
The power lines act as antennas and pick up energy from the pulse.
In 1989, very long power lines (1,000 miles) picked up lots of energy and this pulse of power was interpreted, by the computers controlling the power distribution, as a major problem (e.g., lines fallen into a lake), so the computer shut down the power.
When the rest of the system tried to pick up the slack, a cascade failure occurred.
Quebec's distribution system has since been protected against these problems. When the man-made Northeast Blackout of 2003 occurred, the domino effect caused a power failure everywhere in the Northeast corner of North America EXCEPT in Quebec which had installed the protection.
Since then, most civilized countries have protected their power distribution system against this kind of problem.
We could hope that the USA have done the same, but, in light of the 2003 blackout...
In any event, the 2013 solar max is expected to be weaker than average.

It said something about wiping out all electricity. Will the world be destroyed by fire or something? Will we all die? Can someone explain this a little more to me. Thanks
Answer: 1. Solar flares occur all the time. They occur _on the Sun_ and have absolutely no direct effect on Earth.
2. Some solar flares trigger coronal mass ejections. If they are pointed in the right direction, they can be carried by the solar wind to Earth, where they are deflected by the Earth's magnetic field causing auroral displays: northern and southern lights. Pretty, but harmless.
3. Roughly once a century, a CME is severe enough to cause problems with electrical grids on Earth. This has happened exactly twice that we know of: once in 1859 and once in 1989.

instead of deflecting the solar flares, why do scientist not look to harness its energy?
Answer: Solar flares occur _on the surface of the Sun_. They occur all the time. No unusual flare activity is predicted for or expected in 2012. Solar flares sometimes cause coronal mass ejections, which sometimes come towards Earth. Scientists don't deflect CMEs; the Earth's magnetic field deflects CMEs. Scientists have no way to either deflect or harness CMEs.

How do scientists measure solar flares? does 2012 hold any basis or just bs about solar alignment with galaxy?
Answer: Solar flares happen all the time.
We measure the force of a flare by the amount of magnetic flux involved or by the flux of high energy particles detected during a solar flare (e.g., X-rays in the energetic ones).
We know that there are more energetic flares near the Solar Maximum in the Sun's activity cycle. There is a maximum every 11 years (approx.) and the next one will be in 2013.
However, this one is expected to be weaker than the maximum of 2000-2001 and weaker still than the 1989 Solar Max.
---
The Big 2012 Hoax has absolutely no basis in science. it is simply a rehash of the Planet-X hoax of 2003 (we all died on May 13, 2003), "improved" with older stories, lies and minor hoaxes.
---
There is no such thing as a solar alignment with the Galaxy. This crap was invented for "New Age" predictions, related to the passage from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. If you really want to believe in astrology, then this cannot be before the year 2085 (and probably much later).
If you are interested in the time when the Sun will appear closest to the Galactic centre... then you've missed it by a few years. Come back in roughly 25,800 years to see it again.

Help about 2012 solar flares/ pole shift?
is it true that there will be a solar storm in 2012 that will be bad? if so, what will happen? will the world end?
pole shifting, what will happen if it does happen? i am worried about the flares/ pole shift, not doomsday. please help people thx~!
Answer: Obviously, you don't know that:
- the sun has an 11-year cycle of solar activity
- solar flares happen all the time
- solar flares never even leave the sun
- scientists can only predict solar activity such as flares a few hours out
- pole shifts take THOUSANDS of years to happen
Astronomers actually predict that Cycle 24 (the solar cycle that is just starting) will be less active than others in the past. And the maximum will be in May 2013, not in 2012.
Perhaps you should consider doing some research?

Scientists Say Next Solar Cycle Will Be Strong but Delayed
Every 11 years or so, the Sun reverses its magnetic field, producing a cycle marked by solar flares, sunspots and magnetic storms that can have disruptive effects on Earth. On Monday, scientists predicted that the next of these cycles would start as much as a year late -- in late 2007 or early 2008 -- and would be 30 percent to 50 percent stronger - Scientists predict late 2007 or early 2008 will mark beginning of new cycle in which Sun reverses its magnetic field, producing solar flares, sunspots and magnetic storms that can have disruptive effects on Earth; cycles occur about every 11 years; prediction is based on computer model developed at National Center for Atmospheric Research; predictions are important because solar storms can affect satellite orbits, disrupt telecommunications and bring down electric power grids; graph (M) - By WARREN E.
