the law states that, if you are confronted by a criminal attempting to rob you, car jack you etc. you can use deadly force to protect yourself. you then would not be subject to criminal or civil prosecution. 15 states have this law on the books now, and my state is considering it (wisconsin).

If someone is unlawfully and purposely shooting at your house with a firearm from outside about 40 feet away while you are in it, do you have a legal right to return fire at that person from inside?
Answer: If someone was shooting at my house and I thought that my children or I could get killed, then I wouldn't care what the law was. I would aim a gun straight at the person's head and pull the trigger. And I wouldn't pause to check and see what the law was first. I wouldn't care if I rot in prison for it, at least my kids would be alive.

Lets say every state adopted this law, which states if a person if threatening you, the law allows the use of deadly force when a person reasonably believes it necessary to prevent the commission of a "forcible felony." Under the statute, forcible felonies include "treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual. Think this is a good idea, or would lead to more gun crimes?
Answer: Nope, bad idea. Then you'll have fools trying to justify attempted murders by screaming "forcible felony". The introduction of such a law would only challenge some peoples' ability to control themselves when power has been given to them. Some police can't control themselves, imagine petty criminals.

The law also protects against lawsuit and prosecution. Does the Stand your ground law apply to unarmed self-defense with your fists as well as with a firearm or conealed carry?
Answer: Yes, it does, although it does not allow excessive force. If you are attacked and choose not to move, you may defend yourself using force. You may NOT continue to beat the person after they have stopped attacking, nor may you run them down and beat them. Once they stop attacking, you must stop 'defending.

in my state, Georgia, if a person if threatening you, the law allows the use of deadly force when a person reasonably believes it necessary to prevent the commission of a "forcible felony." Answer: I'm not sure! On one hand, it SHOULD be legal to do this in every state. If a man breaks into my home armed or not, he is threatening my family's security, and thus I should be aloud to kill him. Or at least wound him untill the cops come. But on the other hand, it could be abused. I mean unless there are witnesses, it's your word against his/hers. If (s)he's dead, no one will know the truth. For example say a Klansman and a Black Panther come into contact with each other and one winds up dead. The other could just say the dead person "jeopordized" his life. Personally, I do not know if I could ever kill a person. But my life has never been in jeopardy enough, or I've never been enraged enough to say for sure whether I could or not. Hmmmm.

Answer: Are you talking about the right to protect your property? If so, (unless the law has changed very recently) than there is no "stand your ground" law in Michigan. In MI you have the duty to flee unless the person believes that the intrusion can only be prevented/stopped by using force (self-defense). Even then, the force used cannot be deadly (unless you can show that it was the minimum needed, example: the robber had a gun to your wife's head, etc.) If the robber is attempting to flee you cannot use force against them. As far as what the legal system has done in MI in these cases it has been mixed. Most people have not been convicted/charged in such cases but some are. In I believe 2004/2005 a man in MI was charged with shooting and killing a robber that was out of his house and running away from his property. (I don't know the outcome because I moved before it was resolved.) Some would-be robbers have sucessfully gotten damages for their injuries in states that have this rule. For example: a man In Benson, MN had to pay a would-be robber $75,000 for disabling him over what would have been $150 loss to him. That is not to say that this is common but it could happen.
