Answer: First the sun isn't a flare star. Tell that to all people you know who watched the movie. Being a flare star, I mean all those stars that violently erupt to be over a thousand to a million times brighter than their usual brightness. It means their instability, if reached would be released in a great magnitude. Usually flare stars are stars a lot smaller than the sun, around 60% of the mass. K dwarfs and M dwarfs are the usual flare stars. What does age have to do with this question? Coz violent activity can only be observed in very young stars, those with ages below a billion years. After reaching a certain period after settling in the main sequence, stars tend to settle down and have cycles. The solar cycle tends to go around every 11 years and that's the max we can get. Third, the sun is a very stable star. If you are gonna search over the neighborhood of the sun for about a hundred light years, you would find that the sun is highly stable compared to other G2 stars. What would happen after a massive SOLAR FLARE?

Say there was a huge Solar flare (like the one that is been predicted for 2012), and everything electrical stopped working, would that be the end of it? How long would it take to piece our global infrastructure back together? Would we ever be able to use electrical equipment again? Because basically everything we use is electrical nowadays. Im really curious now xD I dont really understand how electrical equipment would be affected anyway; would the effects of the flare wear off or something after a while?
Answer: Solar flares do not affect domestic electrical equipment. The worst that might happen is a power cut, due to power supply and transmission line problems. This however, is unlikely since Solar flares which can do this sort of damage are rare. There is no 'huge Solar flare' predicted for 2012. Answer: It wasn't a flare, it was a prominence (that's not knocking you, just clarifying). If you mean, "Did I see it with my own two eyes," the answer is an obvious no. Can a SOLAR FLARE cause my marblite swimmingpool to change colour?

After the recent big Solar flare I found that my swimmingpool is a strange yellow colour, not the water, the bottem. The strange thing is that everywhere something was lying, like leaves and the cleaner, it is the normal colour, like a permanent shadow. That is why I dont think it is chemical. Any ideas the water is crystal clear and the stain on the bottom doesnt scrub off.

I am writing an essay on this for an AP class of mine and Ive been researching it online all night; I just cant seem to find anything that is understandable that gives me what I need. I need to know the stages of a Solar flare and what happens in each stage. Please help!
Answer: I am also currently do a private project on this. It seems all information on the web says the same thing almost word-for-word: There are 3 stages to a Solar flare: 1st stage is called the precursor stage and is a release of magnetic energy and soft x ray emission. 2nd stage is called impulsive stage and emits radio-waves, hard x-rays and gamma rays along with high velocity protons and electrons. The 3rd and final stage is the decay stage and is a build up and decay of soft x-rays. The duration of these stages can last anywhere from a few seconds to an hour. You probably have already come across this information, just posting in the off chance you can use any of it. Best of luck.

Answer: No, the scenario is not at all realistic. I have survived a number of major Solar flare events. You have too, in all likelihood. Solar flares, it turns out, are not at all rare, and the biggest of them are limited in their effects to inducing geomagnetic storms which can produce temporary power failures and communications disruptions.

What are some possible precautions to a SOLAR FLARE?

i dont have the time today to look for some Solar flare precautions. ive spent a little while looking but couldnt find anything. my project is due today and i have other things to do yet on it that might be a little more important. so if anyone here is bored and wants something to do, please look for some possible precautions to a Solar flare.
Answer: Get a good book about solar surface features and look at the current solar activity on a space weather site. Solar flares are not something to be afraid of and they don't reach Earth. They cause coronal mass ejections which can reach Earth and cause geomagnetic storms. Such storms don't have much effect on humans (unless you fly over the Northern Atlantic during one, this time you would get as much radiation as your dentist making an X-Ray scan of you), but the magnetic fields can induce strong currents in long overland lines and oil pipelines. If you live in Alaska or Canada, a useful preparation would be using a surge protector for your PC and other sensible electronics. If you have the money, you should also consider an uninterruptible power supply for your PC. I use a small one for my PC, was not too expensive, but you really appreciate it if you get 5 short black-outs per day because a old washing machine in the house trips the CB.
