How can we let the torture of BRADLEY MANNING continue?
The group Psychologists for Social Responsibility has written a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates protesting the military’s treatment of Bradley manning, the U.S. Army private accused of leaking classified documents to the online whisteblowing website WikiLeaks. Manning has been held in solitary confinement at the U.S. Marine Corps brig at Quantico, Virginia, since July. The group accused the military of holding Manning in needlessly brutal conditions. Do you people who think BRADLEY MANNING should be executed think Daniel Ellsberg should have been executed?
A lot of people seem to think Bradley manning should be executed, if found guilty, for the release of the recent Wikileaks documents and Collateral Murder video. If you are one of these people, do you also think Daniel Ellsberg should have been executed for the release of the Pentagon Papers. Why / why not?
Answer: AFAIK, Ellsberg leaked a historical/estimative product. While this was seriously damaging to our interests in Southeast Asia, and almost certainly strengthened our enemy and renewed their will to fight, leading to American and SVN deaths, one cannot prove a direct connection between the the leak and any casualties.
Manning leaked raw reporting, complete with grid squares and names. This has provided the Taliban with an almost complete targeting package. They now have the names of certain Taliban fighters who were captured and talked, ISAF assets and allies in the Afghan populace, etc. Assange claimed he reviewed the documents to remove names and prevent reprisals, but I was able to find some in under 15 minutes, so you can be sure the Taliban will find a lot more. And when they learn who has betrayed them, they will target them and torture them to death. You see that picture on Time of the girl whose face was cut off by her husband? The Taliban will do that to entire families, and they won't stop with the nose and the ears.
Unfortunately, Manning cannot be executed for his alleged betrayal. The charge of treason is almost impossible to prove, and the espionage article was not written with non-state actors like WikiLeaks in mind. He'll just go to PMITA prison for a long, long time. (Where, incidentally, Ellsberg should be, and where he probably would be if the government had behaved rationally when building a case against him.) IF Manning's actions can be linked to the murder of innocent Afghans by the Taliban, THEN it may be possible to execute him. I cannot think of a condition in which Ellsberg's actions could be linked to any particular murder or combat death (although I could be wrong) so there is much less evidence that he is culpable for any capital crimes. IANAL, ETC.

Does the President have the right to unilaterally determine the guilt of BRADLEY MANNING?
Obama said "He broke the law"
How can Manning receive a fair trial at this point?
Answer: Ofcourse he won't get a fair trial. The fact that 0bama made that statement, his being a constitutional attorney, is not just a matter of opinion, but a passment of judgment. In 0bama's mind he is guilty and I'm sure it's already been decided by the 0bama admin that the judge will find that Manning is guilty just as the 0bama admin decided the black panthers were not guilty of voter intimidation.
I'd like to see what changes 0bama made to the rules of court martial last August, right before LTC Lakin's court martial, but it's being kept a secret. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/08/31/executive-order-2010-amendments-manual-courts-martial?flv=1

Your thoughts?
Answer: Putting facts out into the public domain like Manning and Lassange has come as a nasty shock to those in power they will do anything thing in their power to put a stop to it and frighten people to not even think about copying them. It won't work of course, it never does, but it does take pioneers with courage to make a stand and they will be made to suffer as much as the authorities can make them suffer. Early union leaders, suffragettes and others have always been treated like this, worse in the USA than Europe these days I guess, 'justice' can be a little more brutal over there. Now it's up to people who support them to make our voices heard.

How damaging was the information leaked by BRADLEY MANNING to the United States?
Just as the title says; I want to know how the information (leaked by Bradley manning) affected the United States.
Answer: It was not damaging in the sense that it disclosed vast amounts of information that would be helpful to enemy terrorists.
The way in which it was damaging was that it damaged America's reputation with other countries by releasing messages about what they really thought about other countries and their leaders.
It also disclosed many of their controversial war tactics which show they are complicit in torture and mass killings of civilians as long as it benefits them in the long run. (No doubt you only hear when one of your soldiers dies, but not the thousands of Iraqi's or Afghans each year, including women and children. Thats propaganda for you) This is very embarrassing because it shows them to be very hippocritical in they way they present themselves on the international forums. How can they criticise these "evil" regiemes with their torture, killing and suppression of civilians when America do the same?
The military operate by suppression of information to ensure backing by their own population. If the Americans know the truth then there will be alot more opposition to their wars/invasions.

How could anyone defend the gross incompetence of the US military regarding Wilileaks and BRADLEY MANNING?
facts we know
1.Manning was a pfc with numerous challenges to his ability to serve
2. Manning was a pfc with access to hundreds of thousands of documents and left unmonitored
3. the US military at the highest levels developed this "sophisticated" secrecy system
4. the US military has systematically tried to destroy Bradley manning
Answer: "1.Manning was a pfc with numerous challenges to his ability to serve"
Without knowing exactly what his command knew about him, and using my retrospective goggles, I agree that his access should have been suspended. Of course, an analyst with no access can't really do his job, so the needs of the military had to be balanced against the risks. Neither one of us know exactly how that balance was attempted.
"2. Manning was a pfc with access to hundreds of thousands of documents and left unmonitored"
I'm not sure why you think this is remarkable. SIPRNET is monitored, but given the volume of traffic there's no real way to separate the legitimate from the illegitimate. (The MPAA/RIAA could probably find a way, but they're funded much better than government IT.) If you mean that there should have been someone looking over his shoulder, collateral information does not have a two person integrity requirement.
"3. the US military at the highest levels developed this 'sophisticated' secrecy system"
SIPR is pretty simple. End-to-end encryption, protect the terminals like classified information, post or email your collateral secret information. The purpose is to share information, not to compartmentalize it. There are other systems for that, and I haven't seen any reports that they were compromised. SIPRNET worked the way it was supposed to; PFC Bradley manning did not.
"4. the US military has systematically tried to destroy Bradley manning"
Trust me on this: We're not trying to destroy PFC Manning. When the US military systematically tries to destroy something, it gets destroyed.

Cathy Owens, Amnesty International programme director for Wales, said: “Bradley manning has yet to be convicted of any crime, and yet he seems to be subjected to very cruel punishment on a daily basis, and we understand that this has had an impact on his mental state.”
Answer: All you are listening to is hearsay and reading news. If you have evidence and proof he is being mistreated, i would love to see it. The Military Brig is the same as any jail system. You are not there because you were on good behavior. You are there because you are accused of a crime. Just because they have not charged him yet, does not mean he is not guilty. If you do not know how the US Military runs, do some research before you rant. IF he is guilty of what they say, he is considered of the laws of treason, which is punishable by death. Either way he will be in jail for a long long time. Get over it.. I am disgraced that one of my own would even think to do what he is accused of. To me violating Loyalty is a major issue.

BRADLEY MANNING-Why is 0bama holding a US Soldier in worse conditions than those at Guantanamo?
The Terrorists at Gitmo are treated better than Manning,in fact my guess is by the time Manning goes to trial he will be half crazy and his body atrophied from the sedentary nature of his confinement,as well as his extremely limited means for any form of exercise.Seems pretty barbaric for the 0bama Regime to hold someone not yet even convicted of a crime in conditions that border on tortuous.
Answer: Manning should be tried as a traitor. Hopefully, he will be. If found guilty, he should be executed for causing the death of soldiers abroad.
