What was the lowest draft pick as a HEISMAN WINNER?
Troy Smith is projected to be as low as a third round draft pick. Personally, I find this insane. Anyway, that seems like a really low draft for a almost guaranteed Heisman winner. Does this have the potential of being the lowest draft pick for a Heisman winner? Who has the lowest right now?
Answer: Jason White won the Heisman just a few years ago as the Oklahoma Jr. QB, and he went undrafted in the NFL. Although his was a case of an ijury wrecked career, there have been countless examples of Heisman winners doing nothing or next to nothing in the pros. The Heisman, in my opinion, does not go to the best college player, rather it goes to the best player on a winning team (which is usually loaded with other great players). Jerry Rice, for example, could never have won the Heisman playing for Mississippi Valley State. The award has become overhyped, and is a poor predicter of future success. That being said, there are several NFL teams struggling at QB right now, and not a super great class of QBs entering. I wouldn't be surprised to see Troy go in the first round, maybe mid to late round.

Stat line? Tebow's stat line is one of the most impressive, not just for QBs in 2007, but for QBs in ANY season. McFadden is a great player and came up big against LSU, but only one guy can get it. At this point, it looks like it's going to be Tebow.

This year Heisman winner Troy Smith played a horrible BCS Championship and is irrelevant in the Draft. I think after the bowl games where the best teams played each other you be able to elect the best football player that year.

And the way Florida was beating Ohio State's line, there is not a quarterback in the NFL today who could have played better.
I imagine that Smith would have won despite the Championship game, as even the runner-up played a non-impact game versus Wisconsin.

How often is the HEISMAN WINNER the #1 pick in the draft?
i saw today that Mel Kipper has Suh going #1 yet he has no chance of the heisman.
Answer: There have been 15 winners who went #1 overall. The last to do it was Vinnie Testaverde back in 1986. Several of those guys who went #1 overall had great NFL careers and several ended up in the Hall of Fame. But since the late 1980's the trend has been that guys who win the Heisman are not very good pro prospects at all...in fact several are taken way deep in the draft (or not at all in a couple cases). The Heisman today generally is not a reflection of how a guy will do in the pros....in fact very often because of the "system" guys who are winning or guys who greatly benefit from the team instead of great individual talent that trend very likely continues. For instance...Tim tebow is an amazing college QB yet many NFL teams wont even add him to their draft board as a QB because they fear elements of his game wont add up to a pro career. Troy Smith is a prime example....the Ravens got him in the 5th round (all the armchair QBs in this forum who dont understand the different sytle of game required had him as the #1 overall pick...they were kinda close...not!). Whoever wins this years Heisman has no shot at being the #1 overall pick and in fact most of the favorites have no shot at even being a 1st round pick at all. And Kipper isnt the only one who has Suh as the early favorite to go #1 overall. Him, Russell Okung, Sam Bradford, Jake Locker and Jimmy Clausen are widely considered the top 5 picks at this early stage...the list will change as guys go through workouts.

I fully understand the politics behind picking the award winners. Some just dont deserve it, for whatever reason, they just didnt. Who is the player that amongst all players should not have won it.
Answer: Yeah its got to be George. Its not that he didnt have a great season, because he did, but Frazier was the most dominating player of the year. Frazier is arguably the greatest college QB of all time, I dont think anyone brings up George when they argue best running backs (and the QB position is a more important position). Its not a huge knock on George, but the Frazier snub is easily the best example of the heisman bias. Any time a player from Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, Florida of Oklahoma has a decent season they win the heisman.

Answer: It's probably too early to determine whether Reggie Bush (2005) or Troy Smith (2006) will have a good career or not. But Bush, when not injured, looks pretty good on the field and probably will have a pretty good career is he stays healthy.
Matt Leinart's (2004) career isn't looking too good so far having been replace by a veteran and the Cards having a breakout season this year. But, Leinart could still have a good career since it usually takes QBs a few years to play well in the NFL.
Jason White (2003) is not playing football.
Carson Palmer (2002) actually played pretty well until recently, probably because of his injuries and the Bengals are just horrible.
Eric Crouch (2001), nope.
Chris Weinke (2000), nope. Is he still on the SF roster?
Ron Dayne (1999), nope. Still playing in Houston I think, but not the featured back by far.
Ricky Williams (1998), would have had a good career if not for the drugs and the suspension. His comback is looking strong though.
