Answer: the Draft will go forward unchanged but the part that gets interesting is signing the picks because that cant happen until a new CBA is in place. if the lockout lasts all of 2011(extremely unlikely) then the players drafted the previous year would have been re-entered into the draft because they were never signed and they would be a draft made up of two classes the 2011 and 2012 draft classes, needless to say it would be a talent loaded draft

A question on the pending NFL lockout?
Okay, so I was visiting my dad over Spring Break, and he brought up a good point that I figured I would share with you all which I have just now gotten around to doing.
Currently, the Carolina Panthers have the number one pick, and all corresponding picks, of the 2011 NFL Draft. Suppose that the Draft goes as planned, with the teams picking in the order that they do. Now suppose that the lockout continues and no season is played in 2011-12, meaning no wins or losses for anybody and no playoffs.
In this hypothetical scenario, would the Carolina Panthers posses the number one pick of the 2012 NFL Draft also? After all, they were the worst team of the last season played. That would be quite a boondoggle for Carolina- they can have A.J. Green AND Andrew Luck! Or would a new Draft order be randomly generated? What exactly would happen to the Draft order from year to year?
Answer: No one know yet. My guess would be that there wouldn't be a 2012 draft if no new collective bargaining agreement was in place.

Answer: Why would the Colts take Luck when they have Manning signed to a huge contract for the next 4 season? They are paying him $18 million per year plus they would be paying Luck $10-$12 million to ride the bench, I doubt they want to wrap up over 20% of their cap money on two players when only one can play. Besides the fact that Luck would be a free agent by the time he actually played its just bad business, they would be much better off drafting Matt Kalil OT from USC, Quinton Coples DE from UNC or Justin Blackmon WR Oklahoma State.

If there is an NFL lockout next season how will the 2012 draft order be decided?
Answer: Wow.. That's a great question. I doubt if any of the owners have even thought about it.
They could decide to use the 2010 season standings and draft in the same order as 2011's draft. But there would be a big fight. Over half the owners would object to giving the same teams early round choices 2 years in a row.
My guess is they'd come up with a negotiated plan that could get the minimum required 17 of the owners to agree. There would probably be deals made by the bigger money guys to get their way.
I'd suggest something like using the total wins and loses for the past 3 or 4 seasons to come up with a draft order. That would balance out the teams that get early and late choices each round. But at this point, it's anybody's guess as to what will happen.
Let's hope the grim situation doesn't occur.

How is the NFL Draft order determined in 2012 if there is no 2011-12 season?
I know it is an unlikely scenario that the whole season will be cancelled, but if the owners and players dont reach an agreement in time for a season, what happens? Do the teams keep the same draft order as this year (2011), is there a random drawing, or some other scenario.
Answer: No one really knows what would happen to the 2012 draft if there is not a 2011-12 season. The owners would have to agree on some process.
I've seen nothing from the NFL about the issue, since they're more concerned about getting a CBA done, but various scenarios have been proposed by sports media and talking heads.
One was to average the teams won/loss records for the past 3 years and use that to order the draft. Another was to have a lottery system, similar to the NBA, with the weaker teams having better "fudge factors."
Hopefully, the 2011 season will happen and the 2012 draft order will be determined as usual.

Dont have to go into great detail just a few lines. Picks in no particular order. These dont have to be the preseason faves. Just pick who you would like to see.
1. Denard Robinson QB, Michigan.- phenomenal athlete with superb speed. Going into this year Denard has been placed under the microscope. Over the past two seasons we have seen arguably the top 2 college QBs of the last 30 years play, Tim Tebow and Cam Newton. This year could prove just as exciting. I really think Denard leads the Wolverines to the Big 10 title and could possibly post numbers bigger than what Cam did at Auburn. Not as big physically as Newton or Tebow if his passing skills improve watch out. He is primed for the Heisman and I for one am excited to watch him play.
2. Andrew Luck QB, Stanford- After passing up a sure top 3 pick in the most recent NFL draft Luck returns to a formidable Cardinal team. Stanford will have a tough road with the likes of Oregon and USC but Luck could just lead this team to a Rose Bowl berth. Hes an excellent pocket passer with Peyton like leadership ability. (I hope the Dolphins can pick him next year). He will put up bigger #s this year I believe and hes probably the Heisman fave heading into this fall.

3. Alshon Jeffery WR, South Carolina- simply a beast. Another guy who could have been a first round pick but chose to stay in school. The Gamecocks were one win away from winning arguably the best conference in the country last year, but a blow out loss to eventual national champs,
Auburn, prevented that feat. This year with Garcia hopefully in better mental condition after his suspension Alshon will be, once again, the go to target. Hes faced big named DBs and has had huge games. Watch for Jeffery to light up secondaries in the SEC once again. If South Carolina wins the Eastern Division again this year I think he travels to New York and will at least have his named called as a finalist.

Answer: That would be something that would be determined during the labor negotiations, or between the owners if there's no players union. I imagine it would be based on the last full year of games, but there will be some argument from the teams at the bottom of the draft about teams like the Cowboys getting high picks two years in a row.

if there is no NFL what happens to the draft?
I know there a draft on the 28th of this mouth but if there is no NFL what happens to the 2012 draft?
do they keep the same draft order or do they mix it up?
Answer: well if there is no cba for that long and the court let's the lockout continue(which seems very unlikely, because the players cannot go long without money and already are asking about the lockout fund) then there would be no draft. The draft is only happening now because that is the last event in the league year. Though again your situation will not happen most likely because the players' problem I stated above.

2011-2012 Early NFL Playoff Predictions?
Which teams do you think will make the playoffs next year in no particular order and explain why. Heres my 2 cents.
NFC
Packers - Look strong both sides of the ball, Probably will add another talented OT prospect in the draft to protect Rodgers for next decade. Shutdown secondary is 2nd to none.
Eagles - Vick for entire season looks promising. Should be able to add a talented OT and solid CB in the draft to improve dreadful pass protection and secondary. WR depth is very deep.
Niners - With a new QB either from draft or free agency should be upgrade from Alex Smith. Team has all the tools to win pathetic NFC West except the most important one in the game. A Shutdown CB will come to the Bay in early 1st round.
Cowboys - QB Romo is back. WR corps is talented with addition of Dez. Defense especially secondary needs help though and will be addressed early in the draft or Nmadi will be signed to a huge deal in FA.
Falcons - A top WR will need to be drafted or come in FA for the Falcons to compete at a high level. Roddy White cant do it all alone. Gonzalez is almost done. RB Turner has couple bruising years left. Secondary could use some talent in the draft.
Buccaneers - Spectacular turnaround last season. IDK why Morris wasnt coach of the year. Played Saints and Falcons tough in 3 matches. QB Freeman has a bright future. Defense will continue to be improved with talented DE and OLB early in the draft.
Saints come close but lose out tiebreakers. Defense is a huge liability even if OLB/DE will be addressed in draft. Way too many positions to be replaced in one draft. Non existent Running game doesnt help either as great as Brees is. Following year no doubt in my mind they will be much better with a much refined defense.
AFC
Patriots - Defense will be better with a bunch of picks. QB Brady looks to have a top WR if possible which would drastically diversify their passing plays.
Colts - QB Manning is still in, Colts compete. Late first round OT will come to Indiana to protect the future hall of famer. Another WR will be added as well. Tough to see them go far in playoffs without improvements on defensive side though with early picks invested in Offense. But you never know.
Chargers - Young top rated DE will be the catalyst needed to get this team back to the playoffs. TE Gates will be back and WR depth isnt too bad with or without Jackson, though with Jackson they look a lot more potent.
Steelers - Secondary and OL will get help needed after carving by Packers. LB corps is still the best. Emergence of young WR Sanders and Wallace were golden. QB Roethlisberger is still clutch QB regardless. Running game will continue to be dangerous with young physical OG rookie.
Ravens - If not for couple of untimely WR drops, this team might have been in the AFC Championship. Who knows what would happen. Top rated WR will need to be signed. Defense needs depth and youth to carry torch and legacy LB Lewis has created once his calls it quits.
Jets - DE position will improved with top DE to bring pressure with less reliance on blitzes that expose an otherwise excellent secondary. Sanchez should take another step forward so long as WR will be resigned by Front Office or replaced with capable WR early in the draft. He looked pretty good 2nd half against the Steelers compared to forgettable first half.

Answer: I want my Raiders to pick Morris Claiborne from LSU or Dre Kirkpatrick from Alabama. Either way, I want them to get a CB to replace Asomugha. I would prefer Claiborne but I'm fine with either. Adding pieces to our Linebacking corps would be nice too.
Edit: @No. 10 Yankees fan, We don't need a WR, we got a group of young good recievers that are progressing.
