A head to head comparison seems to fall short for me. Yes, Texas beat the okies, but the Okies beat the Raiders, who beat the longhorns.
Answer: Texas stayed ahead of OU because the computers don't factor in margin of victory, but given that OU is ahead in both human elements of the poll, a victory over Oklahoma State while Texas is playing A&M should be enough to move OU much closer in the computer rankings and into the #2 spot.

What can be done to fix the BCS?

The BCS is the biggest crock ever conceived. As of the Week 12 ranking, there are some inexplicable rankings. USC: 3rd? I think not, they lost to an unranked team, they shouldve had a drop off like Texas did (13th). Furthermore, the Pac-10 as a league is laughable, they have one or two powerhouses that basically play scrimmages for a season and have an easy roll into the BCS bids. Same with the Big 10, OSU and Michigan completely dominate that region. Not to take away from those two, they are quality, solid teams, but if they had a schedule like the teams in the SEC, then wed see their true mettle. The SEC needs to stop cannibalizing itself and killing its chances at a championship bid. A playoff system needs to be established to discover a true champion, maybe use the bowl games as the playoffs leading to an "Uber" bowl game. Preferences should cease being given to bigger schools, both in rankings and officiating, by my count USC shouldve lost at least 2 other times. What say You!
Answer: 8 team playoff in three weeks. But, with the system now, why should you play for the championship if you can't even beat the teams in your conference? I think the winner of the SEC will play OSU or U of M for the championship come January.

okay so lm going to watch college football this season and l need a few questions answered so l wont look like a complete idiot. Please answer and thank you. 1)what are pre/seasonal rankings? are they updated each week ? and how do they differ from BCS Standings? 2) what are the major conferences ? which conferences have championship Conference games? how are the teams selected to play in these Conference games ? 3) what are the major bowls ? l know that only a pac-10 team and big 10 team play in the rose bowl. how about the other bowls ? What is an at large team mean ? 4) how many games are in a college football season l see teams play 12 and others 13. thankk youuu allll so much please give me good clear answers thank you. :)
Answer: 1. There are 2 different pre-season polls, USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Poll. In the Coaches poll all head coaches from the 120 Division 1-A schools vote on their top 25 football teams. In the AP poll a group of sports writers do the same thing. They are updated each week. If a team looses chances are they will drop at least 5-10 spots depending on their record. BCS standings begin I believe week 6 and they get updated each week. Unlike the Coaches and AP poll this is not voted on by humans, instead they use computers and a complicated formula. One problem with the BCS is teams from smaller conferences (WAC, C-USA, MWC, MAC, Sun Belt), no matter their record are often ranked lower than major conference (ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, SEC). 2. The major conferences are the conferences that automatically qualify for BCS bowls if they win their conference, and they are ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 and SEC. The smaller conferences are C-USA, MAC, WAC, Mountain West and the Sun Belt, in order for teams from these conferences to make it to a BCS bowl they must go undefeated and be in the top 8 in the BCS standings. Conference championship games are held in the C-USA, MAC, Big 12, ACC, SEC and starting next year the Pac 10 and Big 10 will play one. The teams in these conferences are divided in to 2 divisions and the winner of each division plays in the championship game. 3. The major bowls are the BCS bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and the BCS National Championship Game. There are other bowls which i consider major that are not BCS bowls and those are the Capitol One Bowl and the Cotton Bowl, often because these bowls host teams that just missed the BCS bowls. Then there are "second teir" bowls like the Meineke Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Chick-FIl-A Bowl, Gator Bowl ect. Then there are small bowls like the New Orleans Bowl, Eagle Bank Bowl, Beef-O-Brady's Bowl and the Motor City Bowl. These small bowls host often small conference schools and teams with records around .500 from major conferences. All bowl with the exception of the Championship game have conference tie ins, ill give you a link with the bowl tie-ins. 4. Each team plays either 12 or 13 games, teams very rarely play 13.
