What are the easiest JULIA CHILD recipes?
I have a school project in Japanese class coming up where I cook something and make a video explaining the steps in Japanese. I LOVE Julia child, and I really liked the movie Julie & Julia, so I want to make a Julia child recipe. I even plan to dress and talk like her in the video. Mind you, I am a 16 year old sophomore with mild experience in cooking, so I want an easy or simple recipe. Recommendations?
Answer: Her Soupe a l'Oignon (French Onion Soup) is to die for! You can make your video and put the soup in a crock pot. From there just plug it in the crock pot at school and let everyone watch your movie. You can ladle it out when it's hot into small cups for people to sample. That would be a great project!
Good luck and best wishes!

What is JULIA CHILDs recipe from Mastering the Art of French cooking for Beef Wellington?
I want the original one she made, straight from the book please!
I dont want the recipe that mixes two recipes together I found that to. I want original Julia child Recipe
Answer: Yes it's long put almost all of it is done in advance!!!
For the Beef Marinade part :
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 cup sliced onion
1/2 cup carrot
1/2 cup celery
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon sage
1 bay leaf
3 allspice berries or cloves
6 peppercorns
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup dry white vermouth
1/3 cup cognac or brandy
For the Mushroom Duxelles part :
2 lbs mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons shallots, minced
1/2 cup dry madeira wine
4-5 tablespoons mousse type pate or foie gras
4 (8 ounce) filet of beef
4 slices prosciutto, thin
2 sheets puff pastry
For the Maderia Sauce part :
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup madeira wine
DIRECTIONS :
1 Place all marinade ingredients (except salt, vermouth and cognac) in a small saucepan.
2 Cook slowly until vegetables are tender.
3 Remove from heat and let cool.
4 Season filets with salt; place in ziplock bag; add marinade mixture; pour on the wine and cognac.
5 Refrigerate 2 to 3 hours.
6 Remove from marinade.
7 Pat dry.
8 Heat 1 T oil in a heavy duty saute pan over high heat.
9 Add filet and sear briefly on all sides.
10 Return to refrigerator until ready to assemble the Wellingtons.
11 Reserve marinade for sauce.
12 Mince mushrooms in food processor until very small.
13 In the corner of a clean kitchen towel, twist the mushrooms a
handful at a time to extract as much of the mushroom juices as possible.
14 I usually dampen the towel first so it won't absorb the juices of the mushrooms.
15 Reserve the juices for the sauce.
16 Saute mushrooms and shallots in butter 7 or 8 minutes or so until the mushroom pieces separate from each other and begin to look dry.
17 Add the madeira and boil until liquid has evaporated.
18 Season to taste and stir in the pate or foie gras.
19 Simmer marinade ingredients and mushroom juices with 2 cups beef broth and 1 T tomato paste for 1 hour or so until reduced to 2 cups.
20 Degrease, season and thicken with 2 Tbs.
21 cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup Madeira.
22 All of these steps can be prepared well in advance and even frozen in separate containers.
23 Simply thaw everything before proceeding.
24 I usually get two Wellingtons out of each sheet of puff pastry.
25 It depends on the size of the steaks.
26 Roll out each sheet a little to accomodate the size of the filet.
27 Cut sheet in half.
28 Lay one sheet of Prosciutto on each half.
29 Place a spoonful of mushrooms on top; place a filet on top of
mushrooms; spoon a little more mushrooms on top of filet; wrap filet in pastry.
30 Pinch to seal.
31 If you have any pastry left over, be creative and decorate the Wellingtons to fit the occasion.
32 Place on parchment lined cookie sheet.
33 Refrigerate at least 30 minutes or until ready to bake.
34 Preheat oven to 375^F.
35 Egg wash the tops of the Wellingtons.
36 Bake until golden brown.
37 About 25 minutes.
38 Use an instant read thermometer to insure that the meat is done to your liking.
39 If Wellingtons start to brown too much before the meat is ready, cover with foil and cook until it is done.
40 Serve with the Madeira sauce spooned on top.

Answer: Ingredients
1 quart milk
1 vanilla bean, split in half lengthwise
8 eggs, separated
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup dark rum
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Directions
In a large, wide saucepan, bring the milk and vanilla bean to a simmer.
To make the meringues: In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in 1/2 cup sugar and continue beating until stiff but not dry. Scoop up several large serving spoonfuls and poach on the simmering milk, about 3 minutes on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on serving plate. Repeat until all the egg whites have been used.
To make the creme Anglaise: in another large mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until light and ribbon-y. Add the warm milk to the egg yolk mixture and return to the saucepan. Cook, over low heat, stirring constantly without letting it come to a boil, until mixture thickness and coats back of spoon. Strain and flavor with rum and vanilla extract. Ladle creme Anglaise around poached meringues.
To make the Caramel: in a small saucepan, cook the remaining 1 cup sugar until caramelized, stirring constantly. Stir in the almonds. Turn off heat, being careful not to burn the caramel. Carefully spoon caramel over the meringue

JULIA CHILD Recipes?
I am doing a project where I have to impersonate Julia child...I was wondering if anybody had a fairly simple (not super easy, but not super hard) dessert recipe by Julia child? The thing is is that I really wanted to make her brownies but I am extremely bad at folding so if anybody could give me a recipe that has been proven to be good that could hopefully not incorporate folding thatd be great. Best idea and recipe gets best answer :)
If you have a good one though that includes folding, still post it because I am fairly desparate for a yummy dessert! Thanks :D
oh and btw while I would prefer a dessert recipe, it doesnt have to be one. just no dinner recipes...i am serving this to a bunch of high schoolers so it should be sometime easy to hand out
OK PLEASE READ THE QUESTIONS! i dont want to make the brownies because i cant fold!
Answer: Julia child's Best Ever Brownies
40 minutes 15 mins prep
1 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
8 ounces unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 large eggs
Center a rack in the oven and preheat the oven to 350°.
Sift the flour and salt together and set aside.
Melt the butter and chocolate together in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently and keeping a watchful eye on the pot to make certain the chocolate doesn’t scorch (Alternatively, you can melt the ingredients in the top of a double boiler over, not touching, simmering water.) Add 1 cup of the sugar to the mixture and stir for half a minute, then remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Pour the mixture into a large bowl.
Put the remaining 1 cup sugar and the eggs into a bowl and mix or whisk by hand just to combine.
Little by little, pour half of the sugar and eggs into the chocolate mixture, stirring gently but constantly with a rubber spatula so that the eggs don’t set from the heat.
Fit the whisk attachment to the mixer and whip the remaining sugar and eggs until they are thick, pale, and doubled in volume, about 3 minutes.
Using the rubber spatula, delicately fold the whipped eggs into the chocolate mixture.
When the eggs are almost completely incorporated, gently fold in the dry ingredients.
Pour and scrape the batter in to an unbuttered 9-inch square pan.
Bake the brownies for 25-28 minutes, during which time they will rise a little and the top will turn dark and dry.
Cut into the center at about the 23-minute mark to see how the brownies are progressing: they’ll be perfect if they’re just barely set and still pretty gooey.
They’re still awfully good on the other side of set, so don’t worry if you miss the moment on your first try.
Cool the brownies in the pan on a rack.
Also, the directions say to bake this in one 9x9 snack cake sized pan. I actually split it into two 8x8 pans. The brownies are not as tall but they cook about 5 minutes faster.
I did grease the pan. There's a sh**load of butter in this recipe but I just didn't have enough faith that it wouldn't stick without Pam-ing the pan. You can take your chances and let me know if it works.

Anyone have a recipe for crepes from JULIA CHILD with orange juice in the batter?
I had written it down when she was on PBS years ago and I remember how sweet and good these were. They didnt even need filling. They were like very light pancakes. I have found her crepe recipe online, but not the one I had years ago. The one I found online didnt have orange juice in the batter. If anyone has this recipe Id sure appreciate it! Thanks!
Answer: Ingredients:
1/2 stick butter
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup sugar
zest of 1 orange
10 tablespoons Grand Marnier
2 tablespoons Cognac
12 sweet crêpes
Directions:
Put butter, juices, sugar and zest in a skillet or chafing dish and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is melted. Continue to boil until slightly thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in two tablespoons of the Grand Marnier and the Cognac and boil for another 30 seconds. One by one place the crêpes in the sauce for about 15 seconds, allowing each to heat through. Fold each crêpe into quarters to form a ruffle-edged triangle with browned side facing out. Place two folded crêpes on each of six plates, overlapping slightly in the center, and pour remaining sauce over. Heat remaining 1/2 cup Grand Marnier, pour over crêpes and ignite. Serves 6
