Answer: If you don't have sour cream, you can still use the cream cheese. Just add a little milk once the cream cheese has been incorporated into the mashed potatoes so you can get the consistency you're looking for. You can even add garlic powder or granulated garlic, bacon bits, shredded cheese - whatever you like.

Mashed Potato Bread
1 1/2 cups milk
3 Tbs. melted butter
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/3 cup warm water
1 cup left over mashed potatoes
Mix
add 1 Tbs. honey (or sugar)
Mix
Add:
5 cups flour
Mix and knead for 5 - 10 minutes. Let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hr.).
Cut dough in half..roll and shape for pans...put in two greased bread pans...let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hr.).
Bake in preheated 375F oven for 30 min.

this is my first thanksgiving where I was asked to bring something and I decided to bring the mashed tatters. I really want to "wow" everyone. Does anybody have a special recipe they can share with me???? I would "greatly" appreciate the help!
this may sound stupid, but can I put my potatos in a food processor?
Answer: I do! They are just plain old mashed potatoes with a few minor adjustments.
Use Yukon Gold potatoes. They are yellow in color, and really buttery flavored to start with.
Use a can of evaporated milk instead of regular milk to mash. It makes the potatoes much creamier.
Use real butter instead of margarine. I usually use about half a stick, for every 5 pounds. It makes them taste richer.
SALT!! Potatoes need a lot of salt. I use a good palm full for every five pounds (put in the water to boil) then taste the finished product to see if you need to add more before serving.
Always use cold water to start your potatoes in, warm or hot water will make them cook unevenly. Mash with a hand masher first, and then whip with a hand mixer, it makes less lumps.
Just by using those few tips it makes excellent mashed potatoes. I like to put different things in my mashed potatoes like garlic, shallots, chives, etc. but I dont do that on Thanksgiving. Not everyone agrees on what to put in and what to leave out, and the kids really just like the plain mashed kind, but I guarantee you if you use these couple of tips, you will still have people raving about your taters!

Answer: Sure! I use butter as an additive. Veg. Marjarine is the best. But I make creamy mashed potatoes this way. No milk. If you want you can add a little flavor by adding a little garlic powder, or bacon bits, or some other spices the child is not allergic to.

1 container Sour Cream
1 3oz block cream cheese
1/2 tsp garlic powder
Kosher Salt

Peel the potatoes and boil in the chicken broth until tender. Drain and place potatoes back in the pan. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup sour cream and cream cheese. Blend. Add garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste. If the mixture is too dry, add more sour cream until it reaches the consistency you want. Yum!!!

Answer: Good mashed taters require a good emthod NOT a recipe:
Mashed Potato Tips:
1. Start with russets, Idaho etc.. Just a plain basic potato, no need for red potatoes, or Yukon golds etc… Just stay with the classics here.
2. Don't over boil the potatos the way to tell when they are done is just when a fork can be poked all the way thru a potato with out any force.
3. Drain well or you will have a thin watery mashed potato.
4. When you emtpy your potatos back into the bowl to mash, weather you hand mash or use a mixer just mash the potatos and seasonings without the butter and milk first. Then when you get the consistentcy you want add some milk and butter and stir/fold it in. Potatos can sometimes get a glue like consistentcy due to the starch, mixing them "dry" frist helps to prevent that.
Seasoning ideas.
I like to use white pepper in my potatos, but don't use as much it's very strong.
I also like garlic powder/salt, onion powder/salt, and celery salt.
If they taste a little bland add a dash or two more salt, the salt helps to bring out the buttery, creamy-ness of the potatos.
Cream is good in mashed, and I also like to use evaporated milk, it has a nice consistency with out being to overboard and is realitivley cheap.
You can also add cream cheese, ricota cheese, sour cream, and I haven't tried feta yet but now I want to. Buttermilk is good too.

Answer: 4 potatoes, chopped
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 (6 ounce) can French-fried onions, crushed
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash.
In a large mixing bowl combine mashed potatoes, cream cheese, onion, eggs, flour, salt and pepper. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed for several minutes. Spoon mixture into a 1-1/2 quart casserole dish and top with crushed fried onions.
Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
OR
•8 to 12 medium baking potatoes, (about 3 to 4 lbs)
•8 ounces cream cheese, softened
•8 ounces sour cream
•6 to 8 tablespoons butter
•1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
•1/4 teaspoon pepper
•1/2 to 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Preparation:
Peel and quarter potatoes. In a large saucepan, cook potatoes in enough water to cover for 20 to 25 minutes or until tender. Drain off liquid. In a large mixing bowl, combine the potatoes, cream cheese, sour cream, butter, garlic powder, and pepper. Beat the mixture with an electric mixer till fluffy. Turn mixture into a buttered 2-quart casserole or baking dish. Top with the shredded Cheddar cheese.
Cover and bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for 15 minutes longer.
OR
6 lbs yukon gold potatoes
8 ounces cream cheese
8 ounces sour cream
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons onion salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Peel and cut the potatoes into large cubes and boil in salted water until tender.
Meanwhile, beat the cream cheese, then stir in the sour cream, milk and spices.
Drain and mash the potatoes in the pot, then stir in the cream cheese mixture.
Spoon into a casserole dish or a 9x13 pan.
You may cover it and refrigerate for 24 hours, or proceed to baking right away.
Bake covered with foil at 350 for 45 min's.

Simple (Nothing Fancy) Mashed Sweet Potato Recipe?
Im not looking for anything fancy, like with marshmallows or nuts, just a plain, basic mashed sweet potato. Maybe with brown sugar or something. Should I boil, bake or microwave? Answer: For 12 people I would use about 6 sweet potatoes. Think as if each person would eat about half of a potato.
I boil mine till tender with the skins on. After they cool for about 15 minutes I peel the skin off. It comes of so easy then.
Then mash like normal potatoes. Add butter, cream/milk to you desired taste. Salt and pepper. that’s it. If you want a hint more of sweetness add some brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Hope this helps!

Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes
1 medium head garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Drizzle garlic with olive oil, then wrap in aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

Okay... really... I usually just take skin-less potatos and mash them in a pot on the stove while its on the lightest setting, like 'simmer'. You have to keep them moving or they'll be burnt. DON'T THROW AWAY THE SKINS! Bake them in the microwave until they're very crisp and smash them into the potatos. The skins should be very flakey when you do that. Add a little bit of salt and Viola! Answer: Traditional Mashed Potatoes
I'll tell you what you can put there :
3 medium-sized potatoes, peeled
2 Tablespoons salted margarine or butter
Splash of cream

Mashed potatoes are sooo delicious when made fresh, and so easy. It's a pity people buy it from the box—that's like getting your pizza from a can. This recipe serves 3-4 people as a side dish, but I promise you there won't be any leftovers!
I'll tell you what you can do :
I've never quite understood why someone would buy dehydrated potato powder from a mix to make mashed potatoes. It's sooo easy and the taste is a million times better. Let's get started!
In a medium-sized pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cut your potatoes into equally sized pieces, about 1/2 inch thick (2cm). Toss them in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until you can easily break them with a fork. It takes about 15–20 minutes or so, depending on how big your pieces are.
Strain the excess water out and return to your pot with the stovetop on low. At this point you'll want to add the butter and as much salt as you need to the hot potatoes. Obviously if you use unsalted butter you'll have to add more. Mash together with a potato masher (or a fork) until even. Add the cream to give it a nicer consistency.
You're done! I like to add a little bit of cayenne pepper and green garlic as a garnish if it is in season. You can also alter this recipe with some roasted garlic, or by using different kinds of potatoes. Those purple ones at the market make a great mashed potato dish for your kids!
Now wasn't that easy? Don't let me catch you using mashed potato mix ever again!

Answer: Not so much of a recipe but rather a mothd and some ideas for add ins to help garuntee good mashed taters.
Mashed Potato Tips:
1. Start with russets, Idaho etc.. Just a plain basic potato, no need for red potatoes, or Yukon golds etc… Just stay with the classics here.
2. Don't over boil the potatos the way to tell when they are done is just when a fork can be poked all the way thru a potato with out any force.
3. Drain well or you will have a thin watery mashed potato.
4. When you emtpy your potatos back into the bowl to mash, weather you hand mash or use a mixer just mash the potatos and seasonings without the butter and milk first. Then when you get the consistentcy you want add some milk and butter and stir/fold it in. Potatos can sometimes get a glue like consistentcy due to the starch, mixing them "dry" frist helps to prevent that.
Seasoning ideas.
I like to use white pepper in my potatos, but don't use as much it's very strong.
I also like garlic powder/salt, onion powder/salt, and celery salt.
If they taste a little bland add a dash or two more salt, the salt helps to bring out the buttery, creamy-ness of the potatos.
Cream is good in mashed, and I also like to use evaporated milk, it has a nice consistncy with out being to overboard and is realtvly cheap.
You can also add cream cheese, ricota cheese, sour cream, and I haven't trie d fets yet but now I want to. Buttermilk is good too.

A good recipe for left over mashed taters.
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg lightly beaten
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup mashed potatoes-warmed just a bit
1 tsp dried parsely
Mix everything together and form into little round balls, then fry in hot oil, drian and enjoy.
Or you can make these into potato pancakes and just mash the balls flat.

If you really want to use red taters for mashed here is a recipe we used to use at my Mother in laws restaurant. I haven’t had them in ages and they sure do sound good right now, just something different.
2 lbs red potatoes-quartered
1 ½ tbsp mashed potatoes
3 tbsp butter
1 cup sour cream
Boil taters with skin on until tender. Drain and mash with the remaining ingredients.
You do want to make sure you at these up right away though. They just don’t do as good as left overs and definiltly get gluey very easily.

will give you another idea,and an easy way.
Boil them,peel ,and mix with the rice flour to make a dough. roll out palm-size flat puris,and deep fry them in cleared butter. add a little salt for taste while making a dough. serve hot with curds.

Can i use Philadelphia cheese for the cream cheese?
Answer: Peel and cut 3 russet potato's into cubes, boil in salted water till tender. Drain. Place pan back on stove, add 3/4 cup of milk to the pan over med heat, and half a pack of cream cheese. When milk comes to a simmer add back in potato's and some black pepper. Mash over heat until fluffy. Taste for salt, add if needed. They are goooood!!
ANY cream cheese will do. Except the fat free stuff, yuck, it won't make them fluffy! Yes Philidelphia will do nicely.
It was my grandmas secret ingreadient, so simple yet it makes the potato's crazy good.
