What is meant in NASCAR that transmissions have to have a 1 to 1 ratio?
Could someone please explain what is meant in Nascar when they say tramsmissions have to have a 1 to 1 ratio. Please bear in mind I am only just getting into Nascar and dont have much experience with cars. Many thanks for any answers.
Answer: Let me use a GM M20 manual shift transmission as an example.
In a M20 manual transmission when you take off in first gear you have a gear ratio of "2.56 to 1" meaning the front of the transmission (the side bolted to the engine) turns 2.56 revolutions and the rear of the transmission turns only 1 revolution.
When you shift to second the gear ratio changes to a "1.91 to 1" gear ratio which makes the car move even faster. That ratio means the front of the transmission turns 1.90 revolutions and the rear of the transmission turns 1 revolution.
When you shift into third gear the gear ratio changes to a "1.48 to 1" gear ratio meaning the front of the transmission turns 1.48 revolutions and the rear of the transmission turns 1 revolution making the car go even faster.
And finally when in 4th gear the M20 manual shift transmission has a "1 to 1" gear ratio meaning that both the front and rear of the transmission is turning the same amount of revolutions making the car go the fastest for a this particular transmission.
Now cars that have transmissions with "overdrive" may have a fifth gear that may have a gear ratio more than a "1 to 1" ratio. A car with an overdrive may have a gear ratio of ".78 to 1" meaning the front of the transmission only turns .78 of a turn when the rear of the transmission turns 1 full revolution.

Why does NASCAR rely on drama between drivers instead of racing on the track to sell theyre product?
Seems to me Nascar is turnin into a daytime soap opera with so and so punched so and so, this person is cheatin, Nascar needs to punish blah blah. What happened to the days where racin sold this product? If I wanted to watch daytime TV, Id tune into Days of Our Lives.
Answer: Charlie Chan is half right. The other half is the fact that the idiot driving the #88 sucks and Nascar was relying on him to replace the #3. As you surely know the #88 has the largest fan base in all of racing, but what they won't admit is it's because of his father rather than himself
THAT"S THE SIMPLE TRUTH

How come NASCAR hasnt done anything about Toyotas dominance of the Nationwide series?
In the past Nascar would add an aero package or restrictor plate to curb manufacturer dominance. Why the hell havent they done it to toyota yet? I remeber when Pontiac released the new Grandprix and was dominant Nascar couldnt kill their dominance fast enough, the same for Chevy, Ford & Dodge. Why the hell are they allowing Toyota to dominate? Nascar just sucks anymore especially since they started kissing Toyotas ass.
Answer: Yup, you just answered your own question, Nascar hasn't done anything to toyota because they're busy kissing their assez and counting the money they're getting for their soul.

What exactly would NASCAR have to gain out of targeting Jeremy Mayfield?
He is playing this victim role. If anything, having the public know someone who is a meth user is participating in their sport makes the sport look bad. So why would they want to make someone look like a druggie when it hurts Nascars image as well.
Also his behavior to me seems like straight up addict behavior especially since addicts always feel someone is out to get them. Most think the cops, Jeremy Mayfield thinks Nascar is.
Answer: If Mayfield was innocent, then the only thing Nascar could gain from targetting him, as long as they are successful in getting him out of the sport, is that they would have an example of their drug policy working and he would be the scapegoat.
If he did in fact take drugs, which is increasingly appearing likely, then what they gain is getting a dangerous driver off of the track, and showing that their policy is helping the overall sport.
The only thing that would make Nascar look bad is if after all this the courts still side with Mayfield. That would show that Nascar doesn't have its act together in enforcing drug policies and testing.

What NASCAR game had you start in the truck series and get to better series after you win?
I remember one of the Nascar games when you start off as nobody in the truck series and then earn a contract for nationwide and then eventually the Sprint cup series, i really like the part of the game were you progress into higher series by winning and getting better contracts.
Answer: As far as I know, Nascar 2005, 2006, 07, 08, and 09 do that, but I've only played those, and Thunder 2002, which doesn't do that. Also, you don't always start in the Truck series. If you don't do the qualifiers, you start in the whelen modified series and work your way up into the trucks and then further, but the qualifiers can put you in a higher series

How much does it take to start a NASCAR business?
How much does it take to start a Nascar organization? A Nascar business with 2 cars teams for both and building and everythingBasicallyly like Stewart Hass racing. I got a project for school and its to start our on business and I am going to do a Nascar race tim and I was just wondering how much it cost to start up and the step by steps of how to do it? Thanks
NOTE PEOPLE THIS IS A PROJECT FOR SCHOOL NOT REAL LIFE!!!!!!!
Answer: I thought you were going to build your own team?
Last I heard, about 6 million for a one car team but that's 2 large track cars, 2 medium track cars, 2 small track cars, and 2 sports car track cars. Then 4 test bed cars. I do not think 6 million would include an engine shop, so you might be buying or renting your own. And I think that would include a hauler. Try Racingjunk.com. They have a lot of stuff for sale including haulers and some equipment, to give you more ideas.
6 or 10 million to run one season.

How is NASCAR considered a sport and/or why are drivers considered athletes?
Nascar even being called a sport is almost as bad as the drivers being called "athletes". Both are entirely untrue.
Nascar drivers depend on a $1 million dollar car to do anything. If they did not have the car, nothing would happen.. no super exciting endless left-hand turns.. oh no, what a shame.
Do basketball players play on million dollar rollerskates?
Do baseball players use gold bats and diamonds for balls?
Do football players play on hovercrafts to move?
Do you see how ridicilous these things are? That is what REAL sports fans think of Nascar.. a big fat joke. Nascar is a competition, but definately not a sport with athletes participating.
So, why is Nascar considered a sport and drivers considered athletes? I drive my car for 10 hours straight.. am I an athlete?
People dont need steriods in fake sports. If they had something difficult to do, then they would be down for it. Whoever said that cycling was less of a sport is just retarded. The tour de France is like 15 stages of 150 miles a day. That is endurance, not driving Mrs. Daisy..
AND THEY SELF PROPEL THEIR BIKES, NOT USE THE GAS PEDAL!
Answer: I think that the you are getting so much crap for this is because the title attracts Nascar fans. I think people aren't seeing Nascar as a sport because they are not physically on a court or field manned up against someone. It's everyone for their selves. They aren't making physical contact or catching a ball. I personally don't agree with some of the comments posted. Yes, it's hard to drive a car so fast and for so long, but it seems as if some of the people say that Nascar is the toughest sport, and I can't agree with that. I've been to races before and have thought the same thing, how is this a sport, but after reading what other people have said about it being hard makes me realize that it is a tough sport. I don't agree that people are putting down sports like baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. Those sports are just as tough as racing. Football players constantly are getting bruised and injured. Also, quarterbacks have to throw a ball while the defensive line is trying to get to them, and if they don't make a good pass, it could be intercepted. Or if an offensive lineman let's someone by, they'll sack the quarterback. Basketball players break fingers and noses all the time. And baseball, you have to be skilled to hit ball coming at you at 90 MPH or more. And even to catch a ball after it's hit is difficult.
I think that not all Nascar/racing fans know how hard it is both mentally and physically it is to play baseball, basketball, or football. And it takes a lot of stamina to run up and down a basketball quart for 15 minutes a quarter. Yes, there are substitutes to replace them, but it's still hard. And I don't think someone who plays baseball, basketball, or football sees how hard it is to be a race car driver. Where I live, cheerleading is not considered a sport by the state, but that still takes a lot of mental and physical training to do what they do. But a sport such as poker isn't a physical sport, it's mental and it still takes skills to play it. I think that is how Nascar and every other sport is. It takes physical and/or mental skills to play, and that's why it's considered a sport.
P.S. I think every athlete is way over paid. What have they done to help society? I know that some of them donate money, but they wouldn't if they weren't paid in millions. Well, most of the athletes are. Think about it, doctors help people on a daily basis, athletes go out on a court, field, or track for a few hours, and with their skills at their sport, they play infront of thousands of paying fans. I was just looking up the prices for a football game I want to go to. The cheapest seat is $175 each, way up at the top. I also looked up seats to a USC game, a parking pass was $50, and the tickets were a lot more. Good thing I get free tickets to USC games.
Oh, and Wedge_Antilles_72, I don't see how you think David Ortiz isn't an athlete. I personally don't like the Red Sox, but he is a great athlete. I want to see you hit a ball going sometimes faster than 100 MPH. That takes skill. Like golf takes skill. It's takes a lot of skills to hit a ball into a hole. And what's mentioned above about the definition of a sport by harvickmakesmeshiver. Dissing golf is like dissing racing. You say you don't have to be athletic to play golf, but you do to be a race car driver, than you're just plain stupid. Both sports require skill which is in the definition of a sport.
And to everyone else: You're saying that Nascar drivers don't need steroids, and that's because they drive in circles for hours wasting gas. They're not plowing through defenders to get a touch down. They don't need muscles as much as other sports do. And you're speaking of the sports in a whole. Not the entire MLB or NFL is on steroids, but you're making it seem like everyone who doesn't drive around in a car for hours upon hours has to be on steroids because their sport actually requires them to have muscles.
I tried to make this start off as a nice post, but if everyone is going to be dissing other sports besides Nascar, I'm not going to be nice. It takes just as much skill and physical training to go play any other sport as it does Nascar. And before anyone ever says it's easier to play baseball or basketball better rethink that. It's just as difficult if not more difficult. I want to see you try to make it to the baseball hall of fame or be a football legend. I think it would be hard to drive a race car at such fast speeds in the heat. I'm not trying to say that Nascar isn't a sport. I'm just trying to make a point that it is not the hardest. And if this catagory would attract baseball or basketball fans, that there would be a lot more people agreeing with me.
