Joe torre, arguably the best coach in baseball is leaving the Yankees. I think the Yanks should of offered him a better deal, after all, theyve been fairly impressive the past decade. Joe torre is a successful coach, who I think belongs with the a great team. Yankees mistake?
Answer: I think what they did to Torre was disgusting. What i don't understand is how you can let a guy go when he's won you 4 rings, made the playoffs EVERY YEAR, and knows and loves (well, used too) the entire Yankee Organization. I think that this decision will come back to haunt them in the long run. Everyone says that he was greedy for more money. That's not true. It was said that the reason he didn't take it was because of how they treated him the last couple weeks. to threaten him like that, then give him a crappy non-negotiable contract was just more then he could take. I'm sad to see him go, but i think that he did make the right decision not taking that contract. Now, I hope he goes to another team and wins the World Series with them. Then he can rub it in Hank Steinbrenner's face. then the Yankees will win it all in '09. I also think that Don Mattingly would be the best replacement for Torre. He knows the players and staff and has coached under Torre all this time, he MUST have Picked up some managerial tips.

Answer: Joe torre's time in New York has come and gone, along with Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and quite possibly Alex Rodriguez. Brian Cashman has his work cut out for him; he has to re-sign the former greats for market value, not what the players think their value is. If Cashman lets some or all of these stars walk, we're going to see a couple things happen. Some owners will overpay the former Yankees and then watch them under perform. Meanwhile, the Yankees will outbid the rest of MLB for some big-name free agents such as Andruw Jones and/or Torii Hunter. Regardless we can close the chapter on this Yankees era.

Answer: Good question and an interesting one as well. I would have to side with being more great than lucky. Yes, he was blessed with some great players however having great players doesn't necessarily equate to great teams. It's up to the manager to set everything in motion by using what he has to the max! Let's not forget too that Torre has to deal with one factor that no other manager had to face. That of course was the Steinbrenner factor! I give Torre a lot of credit for keeping his cool all those years. 10 division titles, 6 American League Pennants and 4 world championships. That takes much more than luck. Torre is a future Hall of Famer to be sure.
