opinion on football recruiting?
The past few years there has been a lot of talk about how college football recruiting invades the student athletes privacy too much and turns them into attention monsters. People on the outside of this world dont see whats really going on though. It starts much more earlier then the athletes junior and senior seasons when the offers and scholarships start coming in. Kids these days are being promised playing time and championships so they go to a certain highschool, and then 3 or 4 years later they go through the same thing with colleges. The pressure on these young adults is enormous. Do you all think these scouts and player rankings with all the national hype are too harsh, or are they neccisary for todays college football demands?
Answer: well the coaches have to win or lose their job so they need the best players possible. so if they have to promise championships then so be it, it's not the kids fault it's the college president that put the pressure on the coaches that put the pressure on the kids.

Could I play college football?
so im a freshmen in college and ive been playin football since 8th grade. im 64" 260 lbs and i
played offensive tackle. my high school team was 6A and we were pretty good, winning district and
were south state runner ups my senior year with an 11-3 record. our front 7 on defense were pretty
much the best in the state, 5 of which currently play college football. 2 playing d-1, 1 playing d-2
and 2 playing at one of top ranked junior colleges in the country (won a national championship a few
years back). anyway i did pretty well against them in practice and we always competed against
each other and there were times where they would beat me and there were times where i would
block/pancake some of them. I watched them get recruited and after the season they all went away
to their colleges i was left alone without any interest of any college team. My coach told me that i
should have tried out for jc ball, but it was too late. now i am afraid that i am not eligible to play
since i transferred to a D-1 university (currently ranked in the top 25 in preseason rankings) and i
dont think i can just walk on to their football team because i would have to be invited. So do u think
i am good enough? Could i play ball at jc after attending a university? Could it be possible to
walk-on the the university i am currently attending? Am i even eligible? Any advice?????.....Oh and
sorry for the bad grammar im not illiterate just hate typing
Answer: You can do anything that you set your mind to! You dont have to get invited in order to tryout and walk on. Also yes you can transfer to a JR college and still play, just know that if you transfer to another school you wont have that much eligibility left. For example if you play 2 years at a jr college then you have 2 year left at a other school unless you get red shirted and etc. There are steps that you have to take in order to walk on at any school and most schools have the information on the athletic webpage or you can contact the athletic department yourself. As far as eligibility goes, you need to check with the athletic deptartment about that also. But dont worry. You got great size if you 6ft 4in. Also by the sounds of it you have great high school experience since you played at a 6A school! The only thing that I can tell you is that you need to run! RUN RUN RUN! Im an lineman too and im in the same vote as you. Im trying to walk on too at a D1AA and I been lifting all summer. I know it might be hard to run but dude if you dont do anything else then run. Most college coaches run the heck out of potential football players just to see if they have good stamina. If you run and survive the tryout training then you can get on the team. Once you do that then its an uphill battle to play but if you have good determination and discipline then the world can be yours! Good luck on your decision!

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your favorite College Football teams head coach?
For me
with Rutgers Id give Greg Schiano a perfect 10. Rutgers had a winless season in this decade and now a marvelous turnaround to win 4 straight bowl games, make 5 straight and finish with 11 wins and the #12 ranking in the 2007 season. Rutgers is on the rise in College Football and is recruiting well with a bright future ahead of themselves thanks to Schiano
for Georgia Tech
Id give Coach Paul Johnson a perfect 10 as well. Georgia Tech was somewhat mediocore under Chan Gailey. Paul Johnson won 2 straight ACC coaches of the year ended the 8 game losing streak against rival Georgia on the road last season. Also finished in the Top 15 of the rankings last 2 years including an ACC Championship and Orange Bowl berth. Perfect success going from a Pro Style offense to a vaunted Triple Option Offense. I also love his guts. Hes aggressive and goes on 4th down as much as possible
On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your favorite College Football teams head coach?
T youre a fin moron. Its my opinion stop being an fin douchebag
Answer: My favorite team is Georgia Tech and I am very happy with the direction Paul Johnson is taking this program.. With Chan Gailey the players seemed to mostly underachieve but under Johnson they seemed to be better coached as if Johnson almost wills them to win with his confidence and game time strategy. He took Gailey's players most of whom didn't know the first thing about the triple option offense and led them to a 9 win season when they were picked about 4th in their own division or a 3 win season as picked by Sports Illustrated and among those wins was against Georgia in Athens, something Gailey never accomplished during his time there. Then of course he led them to an ACC Championship and a berth in the Orange Bowl. Unlike Gailey he shows a lot of guts particularly with going for it on 4th down and it usually works too. So after 2 seasons Tech has 20 wins and I feel that it will quite possibly get even better which nobody even me ever expected. I knew he was a good coach but I think he has done a great job with the Jackets and I'd defenitly give him a 10 on his coaching and exceeding expectations.

Whos gonna be good in College Football this year?
Im thinking Houston will be the BCS buster this year...Texas is going to rebound I truly believe (no bias here). Im doubting that Notre Dame will see much improvement through Kelly this year. They lost everybody, and their big star just killed himself in a drunken stupor, so...
Who will be good? Heres my picks...(these arent rankings that Im providing, btw)
1) Nebraska- Bo Pelinis got it made...he wont disappoint
2) Florida- John Brantley is gonna be a beast...plus the fantastic recruiting class they have will make them a powerhouse for a looooong time
3) Ohio State- Terrelle Pryor is finally going to get over the youth that plagued him
4) Alabama- Ingrams coming back, McElroy too...defense might suffer, but Alabamas still gonna succeed in the SEC at least
5) Boise State- Its time to start taking them seriously...theyve proved that
Answer: I agree with your Top 5. I don't see Houston as a BCS Buster, I think it'll be Boise State. But not in the title game, or even close, because they are going to be upset somewhere.
These will be the powerful teams in college football in 2010. By Powerful I mean competing for the title:
Alabama, Ohio State, Boise State, Nebraska, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Oregon, TCU, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Miami (FL), LSU, Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Cincy, and Pitt.
These will be the surprise teams of college football that will exceed expectations:
Auburn, Northwestern, Clemson, Oregon State, Mississippi State, Stanford, Mizzou, UCLA, Maryland, Army, Georgia, Duke, Tennessee, UAB, Washington, Troy, and Florida International.
These teams will fail to meet expectations:
USC, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Michigan State, Florida Atlantic, Colorado, and Ole Miss.

Will LSU 11-12 season recruit James Hairston be successful?
Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas James Hairston kicker signed with LSU last Wednesday. What is everyones thoughts on this two star kicker recruit? He is ranked the 15th best kicker in America http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2737 (scroll down to #15). Please disregard the two star ranking, because the number one kicker is a three star ranking. Please just let me know your thoughts on this new recruit.
Answer: I don't know much about him but as a die hard Tigers season ticket holder who flies in from Denver for every home game, the track record says yes. LSU has had solid kickers going back to the Gerry DiNardo days with Andre LaFleur and Wade Richey. Then in this decade you had John Corbello, Ryan Gaudet/Chris Jackson, Colt David and Josh Jasper. So the track for him to be successful is there. LSU has always had pretty good special teams under Les Miles so I think he will be no different. However, kind of like when Colt David was a freshman it might take a year of adjustment.

Does anyone else think that the rankings system in college football is messed up?
I think that teams that play in horrible conferences blowout everybody because they are decent and should maybe be in the top 30 or maybe 20 but instead get ranked 4th or 5th or whatever because the computers only look at the stats. Thats why they need a playoff in college football that way you would know who the better team is. Not this BCS bullshit that is only geared toward making money for ESPN. So what happens is bad teams move up in the rankings moving good teams down a couple spots leaving teams that arent horrible but not good from year to year in the same rut because they play ranked teams.
But I guess there is goods and bads to this. Like teams like TCU and Boise State. They were really good teams for their conference a couple years ago but not top 5. Like Boise State had a fluke game against Oklahoma, that doesnt make them the best team in the nation. Look at Oregon State, they usually have one upset a year but they dont get moved up to the top 5. But since Boise State played no one for a few years and they didnt pick up anybody good for a few years they stayed in the top 10, which helped them get good recruits so like now they are a tough team. So thats one thing thats good. But Im pretty sure its all computers, look at Iowa (Please excuse me if this is the wrong team) a couple years ago. They were dominating their conference and the computers had them ranked at number one in a weeks time but they got moved to 4. That same week they played Northwestern, an unranked team, and got destroyed. Next week they completely dropped out of the top 25. A coincident, or just the computers not being accurate about who the best team is. And one thing I think is funny is people who go only on what the rankings say. Last year I told my friend, he is really stupid common sense whys, that he always said what team was good by the rankings. He was like no I dont I swear I dont. Well I said I would prove it, I asked him what the best team is. He said Auburn, but that he had said that since they were ranked 20 or whatever. I said well then who was the best team in the beginning of the year, he said Alabama, they were number one. Is that not the stupidest thing youve ver heard, he thought teams just got a phenomenally better from week to week. But back to subject, I think the computer rankings is really changing football, in a good way to a couple teams but since there is no playoff system its really screwing some teams over, so who else agrees with me?
Answer: it's been messed up for years. it makes no sense. how do they decide what teams should be ranked before the season begins. it also punishes teams that lose later in the season rather than teams that lose early in the season. it's better to lose the first game of the season than to lose your first game late in the season. if you lose early in the season, you still have a chance to move up the rankings after losing, but if you lose later in the season, there's no way to move up. and it's only 10 to 12 games per team, it doesn't really tell you who the best team in the nation really is.
the bcs is an embarrassment. there's no more good sportsmanship any more because one of the stat is how much you beat your opponent by so you see scores like 70 - 3.

Notre Dame Football = Bermuda Triangle for top recruits?
I was listening to sports radio this morning and they suggested that this is either the case or it is that all of those magazines who rank incoming classes try more to cater to schools like Notre Dame who have a lot of supporters with a lot of money (to buy and support the magazines) and inflate the value of their talent.
I find it hard to believe that the rankings are skewed by where someone is going, since most of the top players are being ranked before they ever commit to a college. But the Irish have had at least top 10 classes for 3 years (and most every year) in a row they really do not look anything close to being a top 10 team, so what is the reason for this? Do the player’s abilities suddenly diminish when they get onto a plane headed for South Bend? Top coaches, top facilities, top players and a bad team appear bizarre when repeated a few times.
I believe that it has to be the NBC jinx, kind of like the Madden jinx, but on a much larger scale.
So again, what do you believe is the reason for this?
Answer: It's hard to say. First, rating the incoming freshman classes is completely subjective, so-called experts basically rank them based upon how they played in high school. There's no telling how kids will perform at the next level. It's just like going from college to the pros. Many fantastic, even dominant college players were total busts in the NFL (Ryan Leaf?). Some people just don't perform the same way when they move up a level. Also, a team needs a good coach to mold raw talent into competent football players, and I think the jury's still out on NDs coach, we'll see if he can turn things around for the Irish.

Before Recruiting in Ivy League, Applying Some Math
The Ivy League, which is experiencing an athletic revival with several teams ranked nationally, is a doggedly atypical N.C.A.A. Division I sports conference. For starters, the eight members are virtual heretics in the landscape of American big-time college sports for fielding about 280 teams in 35 sports without athletic scholarships. Do you find it more sad that Michigan and Notre Dame are both 0-2 or that one will have to win this week?
I really would love for this game to end up in a loss for both teams. Really, I dont think either one should be taking the field right now. Both of them are destroying the tradition and recruiting appeal of both schools. The Big Ten is a joke this year and Michigan lloks like the biggest clown of the bunch. My next question may have to be on the possibility of Illinois winning the Big Ten. They may have the best athlete in the conference as QB! Meanwhile Michigan sucks! Ohio State struggled with Akron and Wisconsin should have lost to UNLV. These were supposed to be big name teams in a big name conference! Has the Big Ten lost its right to call itself a powerhouse conference? It cannot even be argued that the Big Ten is the top conference at this point and please DONT EVEN compare it to any other big time conference in college football. Michigan is also a great reason why preseason rankings should be done away with!
Answer: I agree with part of what you said in that the Big10 reputation has been severely tarnished. There is NO powerhouse team in the entire conference. I also believe that the first poll should be released like the BCS poll.....later in October.

Political Heavy Hitters Take On College Bowls
College footballs bowl system has long been a target of sports fans, newspaper columnists and even President Obama. But now a different kind of group is weighing in on the way the sports champion is determined: a Washington political action committee. The lawyers behind the committee, Playoff PAC, seek a playoff system in college football more - Political action committee Playoff PAC is battling what it says is unjust system for determining college football championship; group is not just producing attack ads against college footballs oft-criticized bowl system, it is also going after bowls finances; bowl officials and their supporters dismiss PAC as assortment of disgruntled fans; critics say BCS is unfair to teams from outside six most powerful and wealthiest conferences, whose champions are guaranteed berth in series, and they disagree with national championship being determined by complicated set of polls and computer rankings rather than on field; photos (M) - By KATIE THOMAS

What do u think of it? I like Pitt at #25, because they recruited some of the best players in the WPIAL. And I think Texas Tech should have been ranked maybe 1 or 2 higher. And Im surprised to see Fresno State unranked when most people (including me) picked them to go to a BCS game. And why is Clemson ranked #9?
Answer: There a couple of teams in the top ten that I wouldn't have there, namely Clemson and Auburn. Texas Tech has a great offense, a porous defense and I think their ranking is just about right.
I don't really put too much stock in the ratings until around the sixth week of the season, after all the powerhouse schools have been through their soft non-conference schedule.

Do you agree that the Seminoles would destroy the Oregon Ducks?
Remember how FSU used to dominate college football. Trust me, this team we have now is almost there, almost like the ones from the nineties. Those silly little Ducks would not stand a chance against us. Even though were not back to greatness, weird little Oregon teams will never be able to compete. They have no talent--just look at their recruiting rankings every year. They are just getting lucky.
Dadgummit, I wish we were playing those little Ducklings in their own stadium. We wouldnt even need to play them at Doak. Wed make them all little ugly ducklings in their own house!

I got news for you, you didn't. You aren't ANYWHERE NEAR what you used to be and never will be again. You will lose terribly in the ACC championship, which you would not be in anyway had NC State beaten Maryland! Maryland!!
It's a freaking joke, stop embarrassing yourselves. There's two types of programs in football...the humble and the humbled. If you aren't in the first group you will be in the second eventually. The one exception is F$U. Despite years of humbling...still not humble. Just a huge joke of a program, fan base, and school also.

As college football teams jostle for positions in the Bowl Championship Series standings, questions about the systems efficacy continue to create debate. One peculiar aspect of the formula that determines who gets to play for the national title is the Harris Interactive College Football Poll. The motley group of voters in the poll -- which - By ADAM HIMMELSBACH
Do you agree with my top 10 college football rankings?
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. Ole Miss
5. LSU
6. Auburn
7. USC
8. Georgia
9. Ohio State
10. Virginia Tech
I think Alabama has proved themselves to be better than Florida, because Alabama has better runningbacks and Julio Jones, but Florida has a better quarterback. I believe no team in the country is really real close to Bama or Florida, but Texas has proved that they are pretty good. I still think Ole Miss is good and are not overrated, the game against South Carolina was a fluke in my opinion. LSU is not as dominant as past years, but they are still pretty good, but inconsistent and sometimes struggle. Auburn has proved themselves to be the comeback team of the year, Gene Chizik has done an outstanding job hiring coaching staff and recruiting in his first year. Auburn would be ranked in the top 5, but they still have several defensive and special teams issues to work out. USC is still a pretty good team in my opinion, but they lost to Washington, who went 0-12 last year, but they didnt have their starting quarterback and played sloppy, and as everyone already knows, USC always loses a game each year to a cupcake team (washington, stanford, oregon state, etc...). Georgia has proved to be a pretty good team, also not as good as recent years, but good enough to hang in there with better teams such as Auburn or Florida. Ohio State is a so-so team, with an easy schedule, and Ohio State would be no good in the SEC, but they are pretty good overall, and at this point in the season, its to early to tell much about them, except for the fact that USC is better than them. Virginia Tech is pretty good, they had a season opener loss to Alabama, but Alabama is a very good team and I dont believe anyone in the country could beat Alabama at this point, and Virginia Tech just laid a butt whipping on Miami, which is very overrated.
And By the way, I am a die-hard Auburn fan, I love Auburn, and attend Auburn games all the time, and I tried to make this as least biased as possible. Thanks and War Eagle.
Answer: as an Auburn fan..
1) Bama isn't #1 Florida is
2)should Be #1
3) about right imo
4) nope drop them out and replace with LSU
5) Feel good team here like a Houston
6) Auburn fan but no.. they are about 10-15 imo.. it SUCKS they aren't even ranked.. as for that guy with the (Auburn has given up 100 pts).. try to keep defensive focus when it's 40-10 in the 3rd quarter and you got your mom's 3rd cousin playing Middle LB (score of the Ball St game and then the subs gave up a couple scores late)
7) USC is good here for now.. but not long they'll lose again this year I think
8) Georgia seems a touch high.. but close enuff
9) OSU would be overrated at #120
10) Tech is about where I see them now.. around #10
note: for those asking.. Gus Malzahn is Auburns Offensive Coordinator.. and right now they rank #3 in total offense (really tied with Florida for 2nd) and 3rd in Scoring Offense.. so if they "improve as the season wears on" then what? #1 across the board in offense? but I honestly don't see where folks say Auburn has so far to go.. it's just sounding like denial at this point because everyone was sold on that dumb concept that they had no talent when Tuberville left.. wrong lol.. it's simple.. Auburn is 4-0.. LSU is 4-0.. Auburn beat Miss State down like they owed money 49-24 (wasn't that close) while LSU needed help from the god of dumb play calling to beat Miss St.. yet.. LSU is #4 in the nation.. why? because Auburn went 5-7 last year.. has NOTHING to do with what they are doing this year..

Alabama, Texas, Florida State Land Top College Football Recruiting Classes
The University of Alabama followed its second national championship in three seasons by signing college football’s top incoming class ... and that he doesn’t put too much stock in recruiting rankings. “Whether we’re ranked the 50th ...
How does USC get such amazing recruits???
Obviously, a top program like USC will get many top recruits, but since 2002 or so they have dominated college football recruiting. They always get more five-star recruits than anyone, and if they arent ranked as having the #1 recruiting class, its only because they arent recruiting as many people as another team in a particular year (most team recruiting rankings are based on a point system, which depends greatly on the number, and not merely the quality, of the recruits).
Right now, USC has something like 10 four- or five-star prospects competing to start as tailback. Why would so many great tailbacks choose to come to a school where theyll likely get little playing time, and therefore only have a slim chance of making it to the NFL? Obviously theyll get more media exposure if they are successful at USC, but thats only if they actually get time on the field! Why dont more five-star recruits want to play on another quality team where theyd more likely make starter someday?
Answer: 5 Reasons...
1. Prestigie: USC is as prestigious as any program in the United States. USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, and Florida will get tons of recruits off school prestigie alone.
2. Location: California baby! Hollywood, LA, Beaches, you can't beat the location and night life.
3. Education: USC has produced some of the smartest people in the world and is w/o a doubt that best school education wise on the west coast (that has a football team). If you have a degree from USC it is automatically respected in any field you choose.
4. Coaching: You are almost gauranteed to contend for a national title every single season. You get to play with the most talented players and coaches in the NCAA. Your in a program who has the spotlight on it more than anywhere else and that has produced countless number one picks and gets tons of media attention.
5. Women: Kind of right there with location. SoCal has some of the most beautiful women in the world, and sorry but Ohio, Texas, Florida, and anywhere else just can't contend in this category. If you are recruited by USC you are led around campus by a beautiful girl who tells you everything great about USC and California...then she'll introduce you to a bunch of football groupies who will rock your world. Or she may even do the job herself.
and I didn't tell you this, but money is the final kicker...USC has some of the richest boosters in the world and players and their families get hooked up! This is true at any big university...players are given money under the table. (I have a friend that is a starter for USC and one of their top recruits from a few years ago)...he drives a Mercedes Benz, and his father and mother both have brand new Mercedes...he ain't affording that as college student w/o a job...
