What percentage of the votes did Hilary win in the MICHIGAN PRIMARY?
I know Obama wasnt even on the ballot. I am curious to find out what percentage of the votes Hilary received when basically she was the only candidate.
Is she got 54%, who got the other 56%?
Ooooops on the bad addition!
To the Emperor: That is the whole point I was trying to prove! Good observation!
Answer: 55.3%
(Most Obama supporters voted for Uncommitted (which netted 40%))
Dennis J. Kucinich - 3.7%
Christopher J. Dodd - 0.6%
Mike Gravel - 0.4%
This breaks it all down for you:

Oh, and 54 + 56 = 110.....

LIVONIA, Mich. — Mitt Romney , confronted by polls showing him in danger of losing his home state of Michigan in Tuesday’s Republican primary, accepted personal blame for his inability to emerge as the decisive favorite in his party’s nomination fight, but said that he was unwilling “to light my hair on fire” to win. - By MICHAEL BARBARO and ASHLEY PARKER

why isnt the michigan presidential primary covered by the media, or seem inportant to the candidates?
I dont see any mention of Michigans January 15 primary in the news. They are talking about Nevada, ect.
Answer: The Michigan primary is a bit of a odd event. The state of Michigan decided to move its elections from Feb 5th to Jan 15. This decision was denied by a Democratic National Committee vote as it violates some national party rules. As a result the Democratic National Convention stripped Michigan of all its primary voting rights. In other words Michigan has no official effect on the National Convention's decision to endorse one of the candidates.
The Republican National Convention was a bit more kind to Michigan for violating its rules, they have stripped the states votes by 50% as a penality.

Why did some candidates withdraw from the MICHIGAN PRIMARY?
why did Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, and John Edwards withdraw from the Michigan Democratic Primary ballot. What kind of effect can this have on those candidates that withdrew.
Answer: Michigan decided to hold its primary ahead of the date approved by the Democratic National Committee. So the DNC stripped Michigan of all of its delegates at the national convention. Also, Edwards, Obama, Biden and Richardson petitioned to have their names removed from the primary ballot to protest the state moving up the primary. Clinton decided to keep her name on the ballot but did not campaign here in the primary.

MICHIGAN PRIMARY?
I may be TOTALLY off on this, but for some reason think I remember that Hillary was the only Dem on the Michigan primary ballot - right? So how could she even go there and try to get delegates from Michigan?
I apologize if I am wrong, it is just sticking in my head. Thanks for any input!
Answer: You're right...Obama and Edwards removed their names from the ballot after the DNC said Michigan was violating party rules by moving their primary up to an unacceptable date. Clinton refused to remove her name from the ballot.
My husband met Howard Dean a couple of weeks ago, and Dean told him that the delegates from MI and FL will be seated by the nominee...translation: there will already be a nominee (he's already gone on record saying he won't allow it to go to convention) and then the nominee will allow the delegates to be seated, just so they can participate, but their votes won't mean anything because there will already be a nominee. I hope that makes sense.

Who should I vote for in the Michigan GOP primary?
Im 18 years old and I am looking forward in voting in the Repubublican primary here in Michigan next week.
I am undecided at this point between McCain and Huckabee. I heard Romney is nothing but a flip-flopper who hires illegal immigrants to work in his mansion and Rudy seems too liberal for me. Ron Paul is a libertarian, not a Republican.
Who should I vote for and why?
Answer: You need to do your own research on the candidates. Asking people who you should vote for may not necessarily represent your views. A good example of why you should do research and form your own opinion is where you state that "you HEARD Romney is nothing but a flip-flopper who hires illegal immigrants to work in his mansion." Doing research will make you an all around more informed voter. It's great you are taking an interest. Good Luck !!!

What will be the point of having a democratic primary in Michigan?
Based on the local news yesterday, it seems like the Democratic Party in the state of Michigan has no plans to move its primary date back from the middle of January.
If the DNC takes away Michigans delegates for not moving its primary to a later date, is there a point in having a primary in Michigan?
I guess my question boils down to:
Do primaries serve a purpose other than to assign delegates at the National Convention? If so, what is that purpose?
I get that Hillary is all but guaranteed a win, but does it matter? If she wins but doesnt get any delegates, whats the point of winning?
My question applies to Florida as well, since theyve already had their delegates taken away. Michigans still just being threatened with it.
Answer: Since MI has the highest job loss in the nation; it seems like this just narrows the rights of the citizens to represent themselves in the DNC...better question would be:
Who benefits by primaries not being recognized in MI and FL?
I take exception to this, as I am a voter in MI who would vote in the primary.

Just as an impartial observer with no dog in this race, it just seems thats trying to pull a fast one...and a tad bit dishonnest. Stealing something that does not belong to you is not a good character trait.

Do you think that Obama and Edwards should have removed their names from the MICHIGAN PRIMARY ballot?
Barack Obama and John Edwards gave Hillary Clinton an easy win in regard to the Michigan Democratic primary.Obama and Edwards removed their names from
the Michigan primary ballot, because Michigan broke the Democratic National Committees silly rule.Obama and
Edwards,in a sense, cheated the Michigan voters by taking
themselves off the ballot.
Answer: Well the win is virtually meaningless; because no delegates are awarded to any of the Democratics listed on the ballot. The State of Michigan didn't comply with the DNC. The delegates will be given to the DNC Nominee. To answer your question I believe both Clinton and Kucinich should have been in uniance with all the other DNC candidates.

Why does it say Obama and Edwards NA on the polls count for MICHIGAN PRIMARY?
The Michigan polls arent counting Edwards or Obama votes in MI, why is that?
Answer: b/c the Michigan Democratic Party has the not-so-wise idea of taking on the tradition of Iowa and New Hampshire being the first states to hold primaries. So they broke the rules, and set the primary date for today, when the rules clearly say that it could not be before Feb 5.
So in recognition of the rules, Edwards and Obama did not file in Michigan. Hillary, on the other hand said, "what the hell? why not? rules are for suckers..." and left her name on the ballot. but her consolation prize to the National Democratic Party was, 'but i won't campaign there." So, she is not even here. Obama and Edwards camps asked their supporters to vote "Uncommitted," which is why you see that on the screen. But in reality, a lot of Dems simply did not go out to vote today.
The National Democratic Party punished the Michigan Democratic Party by stripping us of our 146 damn delegates for the damn convention! Needless to say, I AM VERY PISSED. What a waste of taxpayer money.

Should the Florida & MICHIGAN PRIMARY revotes (if it happens) be winner take all rather than proportional?
The idea of winner take all primaries in Florida and Michigan (instead of proportional) has been raised in hope that the Presidential nominee is chosen by the elected delegates before the convention rather than allowing the super delegates to decide at the convention.
Answer: Completely unfair to other states. Every other state has been proportional, so they need to be as well.

Could Santorum win the MICHIGAN PRIMARY?
I dont know much about Michigan, but I know there are cities there.
If the democrats are the majority there, they could all say they are republican and register as republicans and vote in the GOP primary. Then they vote for Santorum. If this scheme is a success, then the democrats in the other states could do this. By working together with the religious right, they could make Santorum be the GOP nominee.
By replaceing Romney with Rick, could they provide Obama with an opponent he could beat?

Why can Democrats vote in the Michigan Republican Primary?
I know that Michigan is not unique in this way. Other primaries in both parties allow people other than those affiliated with the party conducting the primary to vote.
I hope someone can explain this to me. It seems to me that only members of a party should be able to vote in the partys primary.
This applies to all open primaries of both parties. It is how we got a loser like McCain!
