Answer: The Railgun is the easiest way to defeat them. Rail gun ammo spawns at two spots in the area you fight the Gekkos: Theres ammo in front of Metal gear REX close to the wall on the left, and there's ammo behind REX close to the wall. Time your shots. Let them charge up, and aim right for the main hull of the Gekkos.

Answer: I am pretty good with the railgun. I usually don't zoom in unless i have to. I usually do not lead the shot and it works out pretty well. THE ESSENTIAL PART IS YOU HAVE TO GO FOR HEADSHOTS. The Rail gun takes three to four body shots to kill. It only take one head shot. if you don't go for the head with the Rail gun it's not very effective. Once you start aiming for the head I guarantee you will see changes. I hope this helps you and good luck.

Answer: I'm not aware of any gun of any type that can shoot something at that speed. List your source please. But your statement "anything faster then mach 25, and the projectile starts increasing in altitude" is not correct, except, in the sense that anything moving in a straight line will eventually either hit the earth or move into outer space outside the atmosphere. Meteoroids travel at about that speed or higher when they intersect the earth's orbit. The orbital speed of the Earth averages about 30 km/s. edit: here is the quote from wikipedia: A very large power supply, providing on the order of one million amperes of current, will create a tremendous force on the projectile, accelerating it to a speed of many kilometres per second (km/s). 20 km/s has been achieved with small projectiles explosively injected into the railgun. Answer: Compressed air, definitely. It's the same tank that can use nitrogen or compressed air. Nitrogen gas has some very slight advantages over air but is much more rare to find someone that can fill nitrogen.

If i had a hand held RAIL GUN how fast would the projectile (a blade) travel?

Im assuming a blade because that would be light and easy to fire. The weapon presumably would have a built in charge, how many rounds would it give off before losing its charge? Highly theoretical, no doubt lots of permutations to consider but just looking for a ball park figure based on amount of charge it could hold etc... I know the big Rail guns can fire up to mac7, so Im wondering if a very small one could od faster then a bullet?
Answer: Even medium-sized railguns that are way too large to hold have trouble getting to supersonic speeds. A handheld railgun, if you want to hold all of the power supply as well, would probably have very disappointing velocities, in the range of 25mph to a very optimistic 150mph.

Wouldnt it make sense to use a long magnetic "RAIL GUN" with acceleration at 4gs to launch people into space?

Using the himalayas or some other range, couldnt you make a very long Rail gun that used EMS to accelerate humans (in a vehicle) into space. That would be much more fuel efficient than what we use today.
Answer: It would only work if there were no atmosphere to slow it down. The theoretical speed needed for orbital launch would cause air friction sufficient to melt any known engineering materials the vehicle might be made of. To examine a more practical example of this same principle, read Heinlein's 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress', where he proposes such a gun to shoot mineral ores from the moon to earth, thereby avoiding the atmospheric drag. BTW, at 4g acceleration, the gun would have to be over 1000 km long to reach escape velocity, even with no atmosphere on earth.

How do you build a electromagnetic RAIL GUN?

I want to build a Rail gun. Not something that will get me into serious trouble, but something that will punch a hole through a tree. I have a basic understanding of how one works, but just need a material list and a ballpatk estimate of the cost to make it. Or is this a fruitless dream that I should just give up?
Answer: HAHAHAHAHAHA, you sir or madame are in luck as i am in fact in the process of making one myself and will gladly assist you... first you will need to aquire some large capacitors preferably above 350v 400uf then you will need to create a charging circut to charge said capacitors you can get a crappy one out of a disposable camera but be careful in dissembling it! finally you will need to wraps several coils of the same size out of something like 24 gauge enamelated copper wire afterwhich you must devise a circut to fire the capacitors you have hooked up to your coils in sequence... this you will need to look up as i will not reveal ALL of my secerets... hint* sensors not contacts. as for shooting through trees... number one that will get you in trouble, second it is unlikely that the coils and capacitors that are redilly avalible will be able to propel an object with sufficient mass to impale a tree. mine is running me about $60 as of thus, but it has some bells and whistles... in any case good luck! and NEVER compete with me in building a superior one!!! hope this helped :)... just in case you were unaware you need to use steel projectiles.
