Baseball Great GARY CARTER Has Died
I just saw on the New York Times front page that former Mets and Expos catcher Gary carter has just died of brain cancer. I had no idea that he was even sick so this comes as a total shock and surprise. He was only 57. Way way way too young.
Politically, why is God "unfair" in that he took nice, kind Gary Coleman instead of Jimmy Carter?
Coleman had good things to offer Americans. Jimmy Carter... well, what do you think?

Why did they call former Mets catcher, GARY CARTER, " The Kid"?
Answer: Because he had a "rebirth" in NY. He came to the Mets later in his career, his glory days in his prime played in Montreal. When he came to the Mets he was old in baseball terms, but even improved in some areas of his game. The NY papers, hence, started to refer to him as "The Kid" (re-found youth, etc........). Back in the late 80's, when Gregg Jeffries came up with the club, they referred to him as "The Kid II", unfortunately, his career never panned out.

Why in the name of Jack Buck is GARY CARTER in the Hall of Fame?
Answer: I couldn't agree more.
Carter is one of those guys who put together a nice career, then played for a while in a large market where he won the World Series while being very photogenic and freindly, all of which helped him garner a great deal of support after his retirement.
I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to the HOF, and I don't like anyone who causes people to say, "Well, if so and so is in the Hall of Fame, then this guy should be in." Carter, unfortunately, is one of those "so and so" guys who drag down the general level of achievement needed for Hall induction. It's one thing if he'd been voted in by the Veterans Committee, but it's crazy that he was allowed in by the regular group of writers.
Carter was a good catcher who had some decent offensive years, but his low OBP is unimpressive. He obviously had some power, but that was offset by his inability to reach base regularly on anything other than a home run. Carter deserves credit for being one of the best at his position for a while in the NL, but that shouldn't mean a plaque for him in Cooperstown.

Pre-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Gary Oldman & Helena Bonham Carter together in a movie?
Before Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (why does David Yates keep murdering the books??), have Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter acted together in a movie before? Im just curious because theyre two of my favourite actors. Its hard to believe that Oldman does not enjoy acting as he used to (his roles are not as intense & dark as they used to be ten years ago).
Answer: I just looked; all that came up was "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" itself, an episode of "HBO First Look" which was about "Order of the Phoenix", and "The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter", a made-for-TV documentary about, yep, "Order of the Phoenix" (though it may actually be about the HP movies in general). Nothing else.

Best well wishes for GARY CARTER where do you rate Gary as a catcher ?
Just read an article his daughter said "She wished She had good news" more spots of Cancer have been found on his brain. I dont care if you think this is a violation . He was a joy to watch and I wish him Godspeed. How far out of the top 10 would you place him as a catcher ? Fondest remembrances of him playing ? Pull through Gary the world needs you. Can i rate im number 11 all time as a Catcher ?
Answer: As one who has lost a loved one from cancer, (my late wife), I can only wish him all the best. Somehow we, as a people, need to find a cure. I am personally involved with the "Relay for Life" event here in Florida.
Having said this, I would rate Carter as a very good, overall catcher who had a outstanding arm. As to his HOF stats, I never really believed him to be a HOFer. I realize the BBWAA voting system is very subjective at best, but I think Carter was voted in was because he was "media friendly". Carter would not make my top 10 catchers list.
We've seen how the BBWAA has kept players out of the hall for many years such as Jim Rice. Rice paid the price for having issues with the media. This is just an example of how the system works.
I do hope Carter, the man, can beat cancer. No one should have to die from this terrible disease.

How in the "H" word did GARY CARTER wesseal his way into the Hall of Fame?!?
Career avg. 262, 324 home runs, 292 hits,1225 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. He was barley an average player and he IS the WORST player in the Hall of Fame!!
Answer: Oh, Carter isn't nearly the least player in the Hall.
Position matters, and Carter was a catcher. He was the premier catcher in the game for most of his career. That doesn't proclaim Hall-worthiness in large, friendly letters, but it does measure up, just enough.
