Answer: He lives the day countless times (they never let us know how many). At first he is confused. Then he is opportunistic (picking up women, pigging out) Then he is desperate (trying to kill himself) Then he tries really hard to be nice and sensitive but that still doesn't work because it is calculated. Finally, he really starts to get involved with the community, helping other people out, bettering himself and listening to other people. Up until that moment he is empty, meaning his life is shallow, superficial and without any purpose or meaning. He finally learns how to appreciate life and finds out that he has to be involved in the world to move on to the next day. He finally does after a perfectly realized day.

Answer: I say no, there is no science involved at all, although Spring always starts about 6 weeks after Feb. 2 (Spring Equinox). According to my source though, the cloudiness of the day could have an effect on the temperature of the coming weeks, so kind of. But still, I say it's not really science because they actually don't know if he visibly "sees" his shadow anyway. They "talk" to him and he "tells" them that he "saw" it.

Answer: I love the movie and I have seen it over 20 times. No-one knows exactly how many days. Some people say it lasted the 6 weeks, but that would make it impossible for him to learn piano, french and all the other things that he learned, not to mention personally know all the town folks. I personally think it lasted exactly 1 year and this would make sense plus it is long enough for him to learn everything that he did. @@@@@@@@@@ The idea came from 'The Gay Science', a famous book by Friedrich Nietzsche. In his book, Nietzsche gives a description of a man who is living the same day over and over again.

Answer: it's a legend that phil the groundhog can predict the end of winter and the beginning of spring. if he sees his shadow that means 6 more weeks of winter. if he doesn't see his shadow, it means winter is over. he has to come out of his den to look for his shadow. if phil was sick, he might not want to come outside. he might want to stay inside his den where it is cozy and warm. phil would have to figure out another way to predict the weather. he would have to see how cold it is in his den. and he would have to see if there was light coming inside or if there was snow coming inside, or ice. phil could check the walls of his den to see if they were frozen solid. he could also ask his friends or family to go outside and check for him.

Why do we need weathermen for 6 weeks after Groundhog day when Punxsutawney Phil does all their work for them?

For years Ive never understood why weathermen are needed for the six weeks following Punxsutawney Phils forecast each groundhog day. Once we know Phils forecast we can easily prepare for the next 6 weeks of weather. No need for the weatherman to gobble up 7 or 8 minutes of valuable news time when the forecast is already determined. Does anyone know why all this air time, webpages & newspaper space is wasted on weather during this six weeks?
