What causes the symptoms of Hepatitis C, and what is happening to the body during the disorder?
Answer: Hepatitis A, B and C are each a different strain of a virus that infects the liver. C is the worst and like the others, leads to inflammation and in extreme cases, dysfunction of the liver. The symptoms are flu-like at first(fever, nausea, muscle aches), and if it damages the liver it can lead to jaundice(yellowing of the skin) and brain disorders because of build up of toxins that the liver is supposed to break down but can't as well anymore.

What are the symptoms of Hepatitis C and do you eventaully die from this disease?
Like what are symptoms and how often do they occur and effect your daily like?
Answer: for most, the symptoms are so mild that they are often found to be treated separate diseases. most when first infected usually get a case of flu like symptoms.
others may have a rash appear, you feel queasy. over time you may notice all sorts of strange symptoms like different types of rashes, joint and bone pain, URQ pain, gastrointestinal issues like gastrointeritis, diverticulitis.
many who have hcv and do not know it do not really show an abnormal value of ast and alt levels. this is why doctors fail to diagnose the disease. we are trying to push for mandatory testing for actual HCV antibodies- this simple test can save lives!
yes, there are those who have passed away due to hcv and it's extrahepatic diseases like diabetes type 2 which leads to kidney and heart failure. there are neuro effects as well such as restless leg syndrome.
for most of us we have never turned yellow or the whites of our eyes have turned yellow. this is usually due to acute hepatitis c (fast acting) and many of those who get acute hepatitis actually resolve infection on their own (sustained response).

as the infected person ages, hcv causes worsening symptoms and others may appear. there are over 150 extrahepatic symptoms and diseases associated with hcv, so although one can live a long or normal life span, the quality of life severely is affected.
I was infected at age 8 (or earlier) and by the time i was 27 I was sleeping 18 hour days. It literally took me hours to get out of bed just to use the restroom. It was not much of a life!
I had depression (because doctors wouldn't listen) and I had severe brain fog.

What are the first symptoms of Hepatitis C?
Is Hepatitis c more common then AIDS and is it deadly or can you live with it?
Answer: What Are the Symptoms of Hep C?
People experience hep C in different ways. They may not have any symptoms at all. In fact, symptoms of chronic hep C may not appear until advanced liver disease is already present. It is also possible to have symptoms but minimal liver damage. This is why tests of your liver’s health such as enzyme levels in your blood, other blood tests, a liver ultrasound, or a liver biopsy are important.
Remember: how you are feeling does not always match up with the severity of your condition. If you wait to experience symptoms before you start treatment, your liver may already be severely damaged.
Symptoms that may be related to chronic hep C include (but are not limited to):
Fatigue
Flu-like symptoms: fever, chills, muscle aches, joint pain, and headaches
Nausea, aversion to certain foods, unexplained weight loss
Psychological disorders, including depression
Tenderness in the abdomen
Jaundice
These and other symptoms may be related to your condition. Many of them may also occur as the side effects of treatment. Talk to your doctor or nurse about how you are feeling and what it may mean for your future health.
Treatment Options
The standard treatment for hep C is pegylated interferon plus ribavirin. It is the most advanced, most successful course of action that medical science has yet found for fighting hep C. For a significant percentage of patients, pegylated interferon works—clearing the virus from their blood and/or making a real difference in their liver health.
Combination therapy using pegylated interferon and ribavirin can get rid of the virus in up to 5 out of 10 persons with genotype 1 and in up to 8 out of 10 persons with genotype 2 and 3.
What we call “interferon” is a protein, and it’s no stranger to the human body. In fact, your body naturally produces interferon and makes even more when it tries to fight off an intruder, such as a virus. You’ve experienced this if you’ve ever had the flu. When you have the flu, your body makes extra interferon to defeat the virus that’s causing the illness. It’s this extra interferon that also causes symptoms like fever, nausea, and fatigue.
People with chronic hep C may inject extra interferon into their bodies to help fight the virus. While the interferon that’s used for injection may be slightly different from the kind your body makes, it helps the body defeat the virus in 3 ways:
Interferon attaches to healthy cells and helps them defend themselves against the virus.
The medication helps the immune system to stop the virus from multiplying.
Interferon also helps the body get rid of infected cells while preventing healthy cells from being infected.
Alpha interferons have been known to cause severe side effects, including new or worsening mental health problems such as depression, trouble breathing, chest pain, high fever, or worsening of certain immune-type diseases such as psoriasis. These disorders generally resolve after stopping therapy.
Pegylation is the process of attaching 1 or more chains of a substance called polyethylene glycol (also known as PEG) to a protein molecule such as interferon. Since the body does not react to PEG, it helps provide a protective barrier around an attached protein so it can survive in the body longer.
When used with medications, this barrier may help provide benefits over molecules that are not pegylated. In the case of pegylated interferon, it stays in the bloodstream longer and is cleared by the body more slowly. That’s what makes once-a-week treatment possible. It also may account for the higher rates of sustained virologic response seen in patients whose chronic hep C infections were treated with this pegylated interferon compared to nonpegylated interferon.

HEPATITIS C SYMPTOMS?
a few weeks after infection, a few months, a few years? Thanks.
Answer: Signs and symptoms
Early-stage signs and symptoms
Commonly, hepatitis C infection produces no signs or symptoms during its earliest stages. When it does, they're generally mild and flu-like and may include:
* Slight fatigue
* Nausea or poor appetite
* Muscle and joint pains
* Tenderness in the area of your liver
Later stage signs and symptoms
Even if you develop chronic hepatitis from the hepatitis C virus, you may have few, if any, symptoms. In many cases, signs and symptoms may not appear for decades. Sometimes, though, you may experience one or more of the following:
* Fatigue
* Lack of appetite
* Nausea and vomiting
* Persistent or recurring yellowing of your skin and eyes (jaundice)
* Low-grade fever
Hepatitis C can cause damage to your liver, even if you don't have symptoms. You're also able to pass the virus to others without having any symptoms yourself. That's why it's important to be tested if you think you've been exposed to hepatitis C or if you engage in behavior that puts you at risk.

About Hepatitis C: symptoms... HELP!!!!?
I have been diagnosed with hepatitis C about a year ago and lately I have been feeling way tired and drained no matter what Im doing or how much/how little sleep I get. I also get nauseated, random dizzy spells and headaches, sometimes my bowel movements are dark colored (not the normal kind!) and I need to know if this is my condition worsening. I know some of this may be stress, but it cant all be. My doctor referred me to University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics (Iowa City, Iowa), but they have taken several months to sched. an appointment and still havent. So I need to know (preferably from a doctor/nurse specializing in this) if my symptoms are worsening and information on how to get a hold of them to schedule my appointment.

What are major and minor symptoms of hepatitis c?
I had sex with a guy for like three minutes (what a joke) and Im not sure If he came on me, or if it matters. He has hep C and id like to know some symptoms.
there was no protection and I understand the fail there.
Answer: Hepatitis C is not usually transmitted via sex. The exceptions occur where there is contact with blood during sex.
In male to male sex, this is most likely to happen during prolonged or rough anal sex or fisting, where tiny tears in the anus or rectum might occur. Men who are HIV positive are at increased risk of contracting hepatitis C through sexual contact with other men.
It really doesn't sound like you two did enough, for long enough, for you to be at any risk at all. Him coming on your skin, or inside you, is not in itself a risk for hep C transmission.
It is very common for people to have hepatitis C for 15 or 20 years without any symptoms, so there is no point in you even thinking you can tell whether you were infected by how you feel now.
Even when people do have hep C symptoms, they are so common and potentially caused by so many other conditions, that it is impossible even for a doctor to diagnose on symptoms alone. They have to do a blood test. Symptoms include tiredness, flu like symptoms, nausea, muscle pains and indigestion. Everybody in the world has some of these, some of the time.
However, since you had unprotected sex, there may be a risk for HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases. It would probably be a good idea to get tested, and while you're there, then they can do a hep C test as well.

What are the symptoms of hepatitis C from one to six months?
Answer: Initial infection can sometimes cause you to feel like you have a bad case of the flu with vomiting and nausea. It is your body's first response to a new infection before it get's it under control the first time. Then you may not feel any problems after that except for "normal" problems you can misdiagnose as from stress and such.
The problem is it this battle will continue and the infection most of the time becomes chronic. If you are drinking alcohol, taking pain medication or doing drugs, your liver will have a tougher time rebuilding itself as quickly. Eventually, your immune system will weaken as you get older and the infection will accellerate the damage until there is scaring that is difficult for it to heal. At some point there is cirrosis (full scaring of the liver) and you have liver failure or in some cases liver cancer.

Gallstones/gallbladder attack symptoms vs. HEPATITIS C SYMPTOMS?
Im having really bad liver area/stomach pains here lately, and I cant get it to stop.. I went to the ER a week or so ago and the doc told me it was heartburn and or "gastritis".. Now I know it isnt heartburn bc its 90% in my liver/gallbladder area and I know what heartburn feels like.. Also I have a family member with hep c, I had a hcv antibody test 2 weeks ago from "Any lab test now" (bc I dont have insurance yet) and scored a 0.1 the lab made notes and it said anything less than a 0.8 is negative and 10.1+ is positive I believe.. but Im just wondering if theres any chance of a false negative or something. Iv noticed that the symptoms are really close and would like to know the difference in symptoms. So far in the last 2 weeks iv had a fever once, nausea, dizziness several times and constipation for a bit.. But when I do "go" it seems to be more like diarrhea. I wont have a personal doc for 87 more days so id just like to get an idea of whats goin on and what I can do to make it stop. Thank you for your time as well as your answers!
Answer: I recently had my gallbladder removed and from the symptoms you are describing it sounds like gallbladder disease, i would get awful pain all of a sudden right below my breast bone and right in between my should blades along with fever, nausea and dizziness. i went to the ER and they told me it was heartburn also, i followed up with a GI docotor and she had be get an ultrasound and i had gallstones and eventually had my gallbladder removed.
I know there are a few things to try to avoid having these attacks, avoid greasy food at all cost as well as citrus fruit, nuts, beans, onions, pork, chicken, turkey, corn, dairy products, eggs, alcohol, coffee or other caffeinated drinks, and breads.
what you should eat that might help is: fruits (except citrus), veggies (except cabbage/lettuce), veggie juice, fish, garlic, tea, etc.

Hepatitis C - no symptoms? How does this work?
How is it that with Hepatitis C, some cases are asymptomatic? If inflammation is occurring, then shouldnt something be happening to the body as a result? Whats the science behind this?
Thanks in advance
Answer: Waka =- Hepatitis C is a virus that attacks and invades liver cells. As a result of being infected by the virus, the liver cells may be injured and die. Hepatitis C accounts for 60 to 70 percent of the cases of chronic hepatitis in the United States. Most patients have no symptoms and may not be aware they are infected. It is the leading cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer, and the most common reason for liver transplantation in the US.
You can live a full healthy life with Hep C. In most cases Hep C infections in your 20-40s and you can easily live into your 70s before ever having to take any sort of treatment. The trick is to take care of yourself. Chronic hepatitis C is referred to as a "silent epidemic," as many times those affected are asymptomatic or may present with very nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue. Some patients may be discovered to have hepatitis C when they are found to have abnormalities of routine liver laboratory tests (AST/ALT). However, others may have chronic hepatitis C with normal liver enzymes. It is important to be screened for hepatitis C if you have any risk factors, regardless of the liver enzymes.
Hepatitis C is more than one disease. There are six different "strains" or genotypes of the virus. The length of treatment is determined by genotype and response to therapy. Genotype 1 is the most common in the United States.
