Why is the American media ignoring what the English media is reporting from Iraq? ?
Ready for a shock? Below is an article from the London Times about our military. Interesting, it is! Our media coverage is shameful! Winning Isnt News?????????
By INVESTORS BUSINESS DAILY
IRAQ:: What would happen if the U.S. won a war but the media didnt tell the American public? Apparently, we have to rely on a British newspaper for the news that weve defeated the last remnants of Al-Qaida in Iraq. Londons Sunday Times called it the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the "war on terror." A terrorist force that once numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the west and central regions of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed against the wall in the northern city of Mosul. The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare. We can thank President Bushs surge strategy, in which he bucked both Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of surrendering. We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convinced them America was their friend and Al-Qaida their enemy. Al-Qaidas loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar Province, which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from there. Now, in Operation Lions Roar the Iraqi army and the U.S. 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment is destroying the fraction of terrorists who are left. More than 1,000 Al-Qaida operatives have already been apprehended. Sunday Times (London) reporter Marie colvin, traveling with Iraqi forces in Mosul, found l ittle Al-Qaida presence even in bullet-ridden residential areas that were once insurgency strongholds, and reported that the terrorists have lost control of its Mosul urban base, with what is left of the organization having fled south into the countryside. Meanwhile, the State Department reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Malikis government has achieved satisfactory progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks, a big change for the better from a year ago. Things are going so well that Maliki has even for the first time floated the idea of a timetable for withdrawal of American forces. He did so while visiting the United Arab Emirates, which over the weekend announced that it was forgiving almost $7 billion of debt owed by Baghdad, an impressive vote of confidence from a fellow Arab state in the future of a free Iraq. But where are the headlines and the front-page stories about all this good news? As the Media Research Center pointed out last week, "the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and CNNs Anderson Cooper 360 were silent Tuesday night about the benchmarks that signaled political progress." The war in Iraq has been turned around 180 degrees both militarily and politically because the president stuck to his guns. Yet apart from IBD, Fox News Channel and parts of the foreign press, the m edia dont seem to consider this historic event a big story. Copyright 2008 Investors Business Daily. All Rights Reserved. Addendum: The reason you havent seen this on American television or read about it in the American press is simple -- true journalism is "dead" in this country. They are controlled by Liberal Democrats who would rather see our troops defeated than recognize a successful Republican initiated response to 9/11. Media probably were holding until after coronation of Barack Obama in order to give him credit. God bless our troops, God bless our current President and God bless the U.S.A.
Answer: Imagine if we had followed the advice (surrender) of Harry Reid, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy? All gutless wonders.

Journalist MARIE COLVIN, L.I. Native, Killed In Syria « CBS New York
Marie colvin, an award-winning journalist who worked for Britain's The Sunday Times, died Wednesday from government shelling in the city of Homes.
Who would like to pay their respects to war correspondent MARIE COLVIN?
Marie colvin, the award-winning Sunday Times journalist, has been killed in Syria. It is reported that she died alongside a French photographer in Homs when a house they were staying was shelled.
She died making a difference. ............"The public have a right to know what our government, and our armed forces, are doing in our name. Our mission is to speak the truth to power"............
RIP Marie colvin. Hard to know how much difference these old-school war correspondents really make, but in these days of spin and think-tanks the truth would be sanitised to extinction without them.

Iraqis call for five-man junta to end the anarchy
Marie colvin
IRAQ’S fragile democracy, weakened by mounting chaos and a rapidly rising death toll, is being challenged by calls for the formation of a hardline “government of national salvation”.
The proposal, which is being widely discussed in political and intelligence circles in Baghdad, is to replace the Shi’ite-led government of Nouri al-Maliki, the prime minister, with a regime capable of imposing order and confronting the sectarian militias leading the country to the brink of civil war.
..Last week Iraqi officials estimated that up to 100 people, mostly civilians, were being murdered every day.
Any suspension of the democratic process would be regarded as a severe blow to American and British policy.

We are losing this war. We are losing ...
You Say ...In the long run, a democratic state in Iraq and the region is the most positive possible outcome of the recent situation, regardless of the loss of life."
"regardless of the loss of life" is that what you said? what you believe?
Id suggest you would not think the same way if the deaths were on U.S. soil.
Answer: Democracy doesn't work, if the people don't want it.
I think we have tried hard enough, if it hasn't worked now, it won't.
I say get out and if they are worried about Iran trying something with Israel, then send our troops to hang out in Israel.
I think our military people would be happier in Israel than in Iraq.

We are losing this war. We are losing ...
Answer: Can you say Founding Forefathers? They looked upon a democracy with distain; thought it was the worse possible form of government imaginable, and steered clear of it when forming this nation (these united States of America) as a Republic.
Can't imagine why any civilized government would try to push a mob rule government on another, unless it was to cause the distress that now exist there. duh. War is a racket, no secret there. Bombs sell, and someone is making a killing. Wish it wasn't the innocent people of Iraq that was caught in the cross hairs. No body deserves that kind of day in and day out horror.
The real concern for the Bush administration is what will happen to the distribution of oil, if they pull out now. Smooth, dependable shipments normally don't fare too well in the middle of a Civil war. oops!! Maybe we don't belong in there, ....ya think.
Bush thinks so. Getting too hot in the kitchen. Family just purchased a 98,842-acre farm in northern Paraguay, between Brazil and Bolivia. Confirmed report by the Associated Press News Service. Perhaps Bush and family have travel plans to bug out to upon completion of term, or before?? Can you say war crimes?
"The International Committee of the Red Cross, based in Switzerland, has opened a War Crimes Portfolio charging the United States President, Vice President, Defense Secretary, United States Military Commanders and the majority of United States Senators and Congressmen with 'Crimes Against Humanity' over what the United Nations has declared as an 'illegal' war in the Middle Eastern Country of Iraq, and where the innocent civilian death toll is nearing 30,000."
