What are some of the best ways to improve my chances to become a RHODES SCHOLAR? Also Im a college freshman.
Answer: First, you need to be a truly outstanding student. But, Rhodes scholars are chosen based on more than academics. You also need to be athletic and show what the committee thinks is a good moral character. I have included a few links below that will give you more information.
How you can best improve your chances depends a lot on your background and interests. So, I would recommend you check out these links and find more information to read. Also, see if anyone at your university was a Rhodes scholar; just do a search on your university's website for "Rhodes" and it might pop up on one faculty member's webpage. And some schools (top schools) often have a few people apply every year so the schools have experience helping students apply. Find out if there's anything like that at your school. Again, a simple search of the school's website will help. You can also make your desire clear to your academic adviser the very first time you meet. He or she might be able to connect you with people on campus who can help.
Finally, I know the Rhodes scholarship has such prestige, but don't fail to consider other avenues as well. There are other scholarships to study in England (e.g., Gates), and there are countless opportunities to get a free graduate school education. And you can even look into whether your university has a study abroad program where you can spend a semester or year of your bachelor's degree studying overseas.

Congrats to Florida St football player and RHODES SCHOLAR, Myron Rolle ! Your thoughts ?
Good to see a young athlete actually attend college and graduate ! Rare in the world of big time college sports with so much emphasis on winning !
Answer: Kudos to Myron Rolle ! This young wants to be a neurosurgeon and from the looks of things he'll make a fine surgeon. It's always nice to see a young man or woman use the system instead of being used as so many student-athletes are.
I know his parents must be beaming with pride ! This young man finished his undergraduate studies in 2 and a half years. He was a pre-med major and earned a degree in Exercise Sciences. He's currently completing work on a Master of Public Administration degree.
In addition to his academic success, Rolle was also selected to the college football All-American team.
Again congrats to Mr. Rolle ! You are a credit to your family, your team and to your country !

Who was the first RHODES SCHOLAR to become President of the United States?
Answer: A Rhodes scholarship is not quite the achievement it might appear to be since there is a lot of politics that goes along with determining who is awarded one. Cecil Rhodes was a man whose views were very much socialist and the scholarship is only awarded to people who have views similar to his. It is for this reason that only one U.S. president has been awarded it, most presidents did not have the political views that Rhodes had. For example if a man were to pursue an MBA (only one president has ever possessed an MBA) he never would be eligible to receive the scholarship, therefore it is not a reflection of a person's intelligence.
The man who is generally regarded as the most intelligent of all U.S. presidents is Woodrow Wilson, with the least intelligent probably being either Truman or Carter.

How do you become a RHODES SCHOLAR?
dont give me a website with complicated information. please just tell me as simply as possible. a guy I talked to told me he was a Rhodes scholar and i dont know what that means
Answer: Well first you have to make really good grades throughout high school and college, and demonstrate your academic, athletic, social, or other special talents through different areas in your life. The Rhodes scholarship is only for the very, very select elite students who have maintained academic excellence. For example, there are quite a few graduates from Harvard and Yale who have been awarded the Rhodes scholarship. The Rhodes scholar Committee selects certain people to interview before they give out the Rhodes scholarship Award, which allows recipients to spend 1 to 3 years after they graduate college studying at the University of Oxford in England, which is one of the most prestigious universities in the world
Someone who recently was awarded the Rhodes scholarship was Florida State University football player Myron Rolle. He was regarded not only as one of the best athletes in the country, but he was also had one of the most brilliant minds as well. He graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA, and he graduated from Florida State University in 2 1/2 years. He received the Rhodes scholarship last summer and he is currently studying at Oxford until the 2011-2012 school year. He is expected to earn his Master of Arts in medical anthropology once he completes his studies there
