I was reading an article in the Indianapolis Star and the writer also suggested that David Harrison and Marquis Daniels need to go also, which I agree with because they have character issues that hurt the team. I hear Kiki Vandeweghe is available for a front office position. He is known for swinging some good deals and building on teams who are in a bit of disarray... sounds like the Pacers could use him. Good place to start for a rebuilding effort. From there? Hard to say, but the key is getting some value for O'Neal and drafting smart! They will be a lottery team, so that pick will be huge for the team's turnaround. ever since larry bird has become president of the pacers the draft picks, trades, choosing of the head coach, getting rid of the thug players, etc. has been poor in my opinion. im just interested in how other people feel about it.
Answer: No Larry Bird it's not the person to blame. Larry Bird has done a couple of mistakes (Warriors deal was good and bad at the same time) but has been doing a great job this year. Come on just look at the transactions in the 08' draft, we got rid of the "monkey" on our back (Jermaine O'Neal's 44M$ contract), also of Ike Diogu (Larry Bird's "gem" of the Warriors deal) and brought it a group of proven rookies (Brandon Rush, Roy Hibbert) and proven players (T.J. Ford, Jarret Jack, Rasho Nesterovic, Maceo Baston,Josh McRoberts - our local hero), I admit that when we drafted Jerryd Bayless, I cheered..because I didnt realize at that moment that he was being traded. But after "scouting" (scouting meaning, searching bios, scout ratings, and videos about Jerryd) he is not what the Pacers need. he's unpolished, unproven, and not a true PG. Our new true PG is T.J. Ford. Besides what have our thug players done that Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy haven't done. Stephen Jackson? Jamal Tinsley? Shawne Williams? Marquis Daniels? David Harrison?. Look at our line-up for 2008 as of today. C-Roy Hibbert (I expect some solid #'s in Reb. and blocks.) PF-Troy Murphy (We need help here) SF-Danny Granger (I expect 18-20 ppg and 7rpg) SG-Mike Dunleavy (20-25 ppg will not be a surprise) PG-T.J Ford (10-18 ppg plus what 7-9 apg) Sixth: Brandon Rush (oh will he contribute greatly to us, offensively and defensively, shoots like his brother, but defends like a madman) *if he's not traded our back-court is excellent, T.J. Ford is a perfect fit in our puzzle, and Dunleavy (whom I think should have won the Most Improved Award) has been scoring like he never has before, also defending the perimeter great, you saw how he held Joe Johnson in one of the Hawks game, don't remember which. We need to get a PF now (and knowing Larry Bird, he is desperately trying to get Darrell Arthur, yes the guy that has been traded 2 times already, I know he tried to trade Daniels for him (to the Grizzlies) but he failed, lets see how far Bird goes to get a PF in FA or via trade. Jim O'Brien is a great coach and a great person off-court I met him in a restaurant in downtown Indianapolis and he has a great heart. P.S - remember that with J.O. gone along with his 44 million dollar contract we open up cap-space big time. Next year when Rasho's contract expires, we can pursue a "Outstanding" FA.
