Spiritually speaking, what do you think of this?
Christians: “Mommy, give me the last cookie.”
Government: “You can’t, that isn’t fair to your siblings.”
Christians: “But mom, that’s not fair! I’m the oldest and I used to get all of the cookies!”
Government: “But that isn’t fair to the others.”
Christians: “If they don’t want me to have the last cookie, they can just look away while I eat it, that way their feelings won’t be hurt.”
Government: “Honey, that still isn’t fair.”
Christians: *screams and cries and whines*
Government: “Okay, okay! I’ll give you the cookie!”
Christians: “Finally.”
This is how I see the school prayer. But now with the holiday tree, they’ve taken it to a new level.
Government: *gives cookie*
Non-Christians: “Uhm, this isn’t fair.”
Christians: “Ew, go away. Nobody wants your opinion.”
Government: “Okay, how about no one gets the cookie then.”
Non-Christians: “Yeah, that’s fair.”
Christians: “NO! I WANT THE COOKIE!”
Government: “Maybe we could split it in half?”
Christians: “NOOOO! I WANT THE WHOLE THING.”
Government: “You could have 3/4?”
Christians: “NOOO!”
Non-Christians: “I think it would be best if we just didn’t eat the cookie. It’s not really good for us anyway.”
Christians: “I want the whole cookie and if you say that I can’t have it I will be VERY offended! Are you saying that I can never eat cookies again? Are you trying to take away my love for cookies?! Well too bad! I’m going to eat that cookie anyway.”
Non-Christians: “Wait a minute, that really isn’t fair to say. Why should you get the whole cookie? You aren’t better than everyone else. And no, of course we aren’t trying to say that you can’t love cookies anymore…”
Christians: “Oh you are such a baby. Why are you making a big deal out of this!? It’s just a cookie!”

Judge OKs terms for prayer banner at RI school
The banner has been covered since a judge ordered its removal in a lawsuit filed on behalf of student Jessica ahlquist, who is an atheist. If the city appeals, the wood must be painted to match the wall color and stay that way during the appeal.

The prayer on a public school was considered unconstitutional by a judge and taken down, even though so many in RI wanted it to stay up. I imagine if the prayer had been Hinudu or Muslim or atheistic teachings, the same people who wanted it to stay up would be protesting against it. Give me your best reasons for or against the prayer.

He said he thought it would be safer for his family if he declined to fill the order. For his family! Fed Judge Sides With Teen Atheist & Orders Public School to Remove Prayer Mural?
A federal judge has ruled in favor of a teenage atheist whose fight for the removal of a prayer mural in her public high school in Cranston, Rhode Island, has attracted national attention.
Jessica ahlquist, 16, who was represented by the Rhode Island chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, was elated on Wednesday when her lawsuit against Crayton city and officials at Cranston High School West came to a close. In the ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Lagueux said that the school must remove the banner immediately. Additionally, he decided that legal fees should be provided to the plaintiff.
Ahlquist‘s main argument in the case has been that a prayer mural present in her school’s auditorium is offensive to non-Christians. Additionally, she claims that it has made her feel ostracized and, thus, she has petitioned fervently for its removal.
Here’s a news report from April 2011, during which Ahlquist discusses her opposition to the mural:

Would Jesus really want His people to attack a 16 year old girl who stands up for what she believes?
CRANSTON, R.I. — She is 16, the daughter of a firefighter and a nurse, a self-proclaimed nerd who loves Harry Potter and Facebook. But Jessica ahlquist is also an outspoken atheist who has incensed this heavily Roman Catholic city with a successful lawsuit to get a prayer removed from the wall of her high school auditorium, where it has hung for 49 years.
A federal judge ruled this month that the prayer’s presence at Cranston High School West was unconstitutional, concluding that it violated the principle of government neutrality in religion. In the weeks since, residents have crowded school board meetings to demand an appeal, Jessica has received online threats and the police have escorted her at school, and Cranston, a dense city of 80,000 just south of Providence, has throbbed with raw emotion.
State Representative Peter G. Palumbo, a Democrat from Cranston, called Jessica “an evil little thing” on a popular talk radio show. Three separate florists refused to deliver her roses sent from a national atheist group. The group, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, has filed a complaint with the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights.
“I was amazed,” said Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the foundation, which is based in Wisconsin and has given Jessica $13,000 from support and scholarship funds. “We haven’t seen a case like this in a long time, with this level of revilement and ostracism and stigmatizing.”

I'm an atheist. I was in high school too, I'm glad it was very secular there though (I'm in Canada).
The bible, Jesus, and God unfortunately does not follow a very high standard of morality. That's why you get some people telling you that a little girl getting raped and killed is "all part of His plan." They're stuck in a belief where they are forced to rationalize atrocities and exclude others on a large and hurtful basis.

JESSICA AHLQUIST, Atheist Student In Prayer Banner Fight, Gets ...
CRANSTON, R.I. -- A national association that says there's no proof for the existence of God is managing a scholarship fund set up for a teenage atheist at the center of a dispute over a prayer banner at a Rhode Island school.
In Cranston, RI we had a fight over a prayer banner, because JESSICA AHLQUIST and the ACLU sued?
Yes, I also think it was illegal and am also an atheist(no proof God exists and never saw him). I was wondering why it took almost 50 years for the banner to get Cranston schools in trouble. Why didnt anybody sue when It was first installed back then(I was not born in Providence, yet). What about 5 years ago or even 10 years, ago. Or does the ACLU only sue when there is a complaint. In 50 years, only one person(Jessica) complained. I have lived in Cranston , since 1991. Since she won, that verifies it was illegal.
Answer: ACLU is just another "bait and switch" far left Jewish controlled organization.
Sorry to hear you are still atheist, I was too in my past. However, they do pick and choose. We are supposed to live in a land with separation of church and state which is a huge damn lie. They wouldn't sue when locally they sued to have crosses removed from veteran sites, to remove manger scenes from local court houses and schools. To remove crosses from schools and anything concerning Christianity yet I could not get them to remove the Jewish Menorah from local libraries, from the background scenes in our local news and schools. The "Star of David" is still flying on top of our court house and clock - face. We still send trillions of dollars to Israel just because of religious reasons then say its because they are some kind of ally of ours which they are not. Occupiers and terrorist more like it. Their Menorah is allowed in the White House and on the National Lawn where a cross is forbidden... and the ACLU does and says nothing about it and could care less. Especially since many at the ACLU like the Southern Poverty Justice League are Jewish and goyim and Christian haters and could care less about equality for all and the same justice being dealt out. The Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith for Jews could care less since they claim to be gods and anyone challenging them or questioning their ways and demands are haters and anti-Semites. Some twist on liberty and justice isn't it?
The same goes for Jewish mandated curriculum in our schools here where the holocaust along with their religious beliefs and lies are forced down our children's necks along with 'forced' mandated trips to the local holocaust museum to assure their social engineering and brain-washing so as they never question the Jew or World Zionism or their special privileges they have here in this country and others. Now today, I"m much older probably, we are also labeled as Terrorist if we dare to speak out against this stuff, and their paid activist and others go on the hunt for us and threaten, but that's okay I guess seeings how atheist seem to always over-look certain people in this not-so-free country where it seems even Zionist and Pharisees rule over all.

@Daiquan, SC You are a moron, because these days I was looking at her twitter constantly and I saw with my own eyes what was happening. And spare me the "they arent true Christians" lecture.
@Cherry Thomas The mural was illegal. Noone has the right to shove his beliefs down your throat. Even worse if it is at a school.
Answer: I am very sorry that this has happened. I publicly defend the separation of church and state, and do not support religious displays in public schools. As for those who feel a need to berate this girl, I don't claim to know what they're thinking. In my opinion, freedom of religion includes freedom *from* religion. News stories like this are among the many reasons that I'm active in the interfaith movement and also attend atheist meetings. Fear comes from a lack of education, as well as a lack interaction with those who think and believe differently. In my own way, I want to help right wrongs such as this. But this isn't about me, it's about this girl. It is an outrage that she is being treated this way. Again, I'm sorry.

For background, she is a 16 year-old high school student in Rhode Island who recently won a decision in federal court over a "school prayer" banner at her high school.
Heres an article on the story: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/27/us/rhode-island-city-enraged-over-school-prayer-lawsuit.html
Here is an image of the banner in question: http://www.dailytribune.com/content/articles/2011/10/13/news/doc4e97872c0b39d917166762.jpg
As an atheist, I applaud the ruling in this case. In fact, I dont see how any other ruling was possible.
What troubles me about the story is that so many people who are upset about the ruling and want the banner to stay, are acting in a way that is directly contrary to the values listed on the banner.
I dont recall if its mentioned in this story, but someone had suggested removing "School Prayer", "Our Heavenly Father", and "Amen" as a compromise and that was rejected.
Answer: I applaud her fight to protect the constitutional separation of church and state.
Of course, now that she's being harassed, we can see just how "loving" Christians can be. Not that I am surprised, of course.

US Constitution and Atheists Win Another One?
Talk about standing up for the US Constitution and your beliefs!!!
16 years old, a little girl, and standing up to a 40 something jesus freak and US Constitution hater state Rep. Peter Polombo.
This fine example of a Christian American man met in private with Jesus and then had this to say about the 16 year young girl : she is "an evil little thing," a "clapping seal" and a "pawn star".
Jesus is sooooo Proud of the people Christians elect to lead our Nation, to lead our children by example!!!
Isnt he?
And then these other fine examples of tolerant and loving Christian American children had these things to say, taught to them by their christian parents of course : Yesterday, one Twitter user said "this girl honestly needs to be punched in the face."
Another user bragged "your home address posted online i cant wait to hear about you getting curb stomped you ****ing worthless c***."
And some users using their real names identified themselves as classmates of Jessica ahlquist, the plaintiff, one saying "definelty laying it down on this athiest tomorrow anyone else?"
Police said they are patrolling Ahlquists house and the school this weekend."
Isnt that special. Seems the police anticipate an angry mob of christians attacking a 16 year old girl violently. Isnt Jesus a wonderful influence?
How about a cheer for the Win for the US Constitution? Once again the LAW, Mans Law, is upheld and Jesus is booted out of a PUBLIC School. Considering the negative and violent influence Jesus had on those nasty christian kids...that is good isnt it?

That is right!! Real christians would be there defending that little girl from violent thugs threatening violence in the name of Jesus.
Ummmm so where are they?
Oh that is right, forgot, REAL christians cower in fear from the fake christians giving christianity a bad image.
Jesus Freaks. When they don't get their way they get violent.
Jesus taught in secret code it seems, opposite code. Whatever Jesus said Jesus actually wants chrisitians to do the opposite.

Rhode Island City Enraged Over School Prayer Lawsuit - NYTimes ...
Jan 26, 2012 ... Jessica ahlquist, a Rhode Island atheist, won a suit against her ... But Jessica Ahlquist is also an outspoken atheist who has incensed this ...
Do you think that girl (JESSICA AHLQUIST) took it too far by making her school to remove a prayer banner?
As an Atheist, I really found that an odd & unnecessary move. It was just a piece of prayer put up there to rot. Its not like someone was forcing her to read it and its not like people would even notice it (why would she, especially when shes Atheist?). Also, its not like her school forced to her to join a religion class - now that I wouldnt agree with and Id side with her.
It was the schools tradition. Sometimes religion may crawl itself in peoples culture (Islam & Hinduism). So you could say it was a little racist thing to do this (remember that Christianity is also Middle Eastern and now its more of a Western thing). She lives in a Western country, so should respect some objects and traditions of the western culture (gotta agree with Pat Condell here when he criticized those Atheists wanting virgin birth scenes removed from malls).
She talked about freedom of religion and yet she doesnt want some religious banner that nobody even looks at in school. How is that freedom? What a hypocrite.
@Alan, people who were slaves will be offended by this. Slavery was harmful and murderous at most. Putting a rotten banner is HARMLESS and more CULTURAL. You just compared apples & oranges.
"I wonder how many would have objected to the banner if it contained Islamic prayer references. Bet THAT would be a real outrage."
I would be too, because Muslims hate anything that is Christian or Western in their countries, so why have it here? The banner was still cultural and historic in essence, especially to the West & America.
Wow, I feel really weird defending Christianity/religion here, but this time I really should. And I agree, her haters were barbaric towards her.
Answer: I have to say I agree with you completely. Some people feel it necessary to force people to pay attention to them. That attention is not always positive but few that aggressive care. They just like the attention. I suspect that is her problem.

Religion...and PEACE.
So compatible!
TWEEDY - Wow, Im really loving your confusion about my intent behind anything I write. Based on my own design...melodrama, satire, humor, sarcasm, irony, metaphor...weaving together various dimensions of the written word from one post to another, I can always tell when youre not only bluffing, but bluffing to hide that you really havent the first clue required to....out-fox me. Be smug...But you were already so pre-occupied with another user who writes in a style completely - and obviously - different than my own, based on only the number of writing tricks he decides to run with, that you still failed to notice that this is one of MY posts where I choose to utilize only a fraction of my tools.
BOBOLOGY - Im not an Atheist.
FLBEACH - Religious influence was planted into an educational facility, under the premise that the banner [to visitors, for example], for lack of better terms, would essentially serve as the driving principle endorsed by the Faculty/Administration as well as the student body. The article blatantly outlines how this is 100% unConstitutional.
Answer: the only people more obsessed with god than fanatics, are atheists.
