So much Oscar programming, so little time! Luckily, here's a rundown of what Oscar-related shows are on TV this weekend so you can spare yourself the stress of choosing at the last minute.
Oscars 2012: Peter Howell’s Academy Award night predictions
Silence is golden at the 84th annual Academy Awards. A lot of pundits will be left speechless if retro Hollywood homage The Artist doesn’t take the Oscar for Best Picture at Sunday’s ceremony, although scene-stealing canine Uggie will likely bark anyway.
Should they cancel the best animated feature film race for this year, and give it to Up?
Next year, when the Oscar nominees are announced, should they cancel the race for best animated feature film, and give it to Up? Disney-PIXAR have won the award all but 2 years that it was awarded. The 2 films that didnt win were Monsters Inc and Cars, but all the rest of them have won the award, including WALL E last year. And for the next few years, Disney-PIXAR are scheduled to release animated movies. And right now it looks like 2013 is the next year, they dont have anything scheduled, but (of course) that could change. And plus when they hand out the nominations for the years 2010, 2011, 2012, should they cancel the race for best animated feature film for those years, and give it to the Disney-PIXAR movies that are scheduled to be released. Up at Rottentomatoes.com got 98% fresh from the critics on reviews http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/up/ . Coraline that was released earlier this year, http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/coraline/ . And Monsters Vs Aliens got 71% fresh from the movie critics, http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/monsters_vs_aliens/ . So no surprise there that Up is the best reviewed animated movie of the year so far. The only other animated movie that is coming out this year is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. And I cant think of any other animated movies coming out this year, that could give Up a run for its money. Yes, I am aware that Up came out yesterday, and it is too early to be talking about the race for best animated feature film for 2009 already. But I feel like I must ask this question.
Answer: Coraline was good it deserves to be nominated
they will never cancel an award. Even though Pixar will win.

no deathly hallows part 2 nominations?!?
I just saw that for the 2012 golden globe awards there are no Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2 nominations at all! I mean, seriously?! And if Deathly Hallows part 2 wasnt nominated for a Golden Globe, that doesnt look too good for the Oscars. Now, I am obviously a BIG HP FAN, which is presented pretty hugely by my previous answers and questions, but trust me, this isnt just because I am biased and on the side of Harry Potter. If Lord of the Rings won best picture nomination a number of years ago, I see no reason why Harry Potter shouldnt! Harry Potter got top ratings on all of the top rating sites! It broke records, and is the biggest and highest grossing movie franchise in history! I mean, to not give it the best Oscar award, or the best golden globe award, OK, even though it deserves it, but to not have it at least get one NOMINATION, is wrong. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were two great movies! To not even recognize it in a nomination, is to spit in the directors and actors faces! Basically like saying, "we hate it" for no reason, or "we love it, and its 4-5 star movie, and is reviewed very highly by all the top notch critics, but it has enough recognition, so we wont give it even a nomination." There was some spectacular acting in that movie, and spectacular directing and producing, and the score was extremely good, and the fact that I am watching a 5 star, legendary movie franchise end without a nomination from even the Golden Globes, is unnerving. So who agrees with me? Obviously these people need to get their shit together, because I just will not see a movie this good and legendary and record breaking go by without any recognition from the top people, im sorry, nohooo way!
Answer: I am watching it now. I strongly agree with you! That was an awesome movie and the acting by all was superb! Especially Snape's(Alan Rickman) performance. They all should have been nominated and the Movie should have been up for best picture. They snub those that are not the artsy fartsy films. It is upsetting to hear they were not nominated. Ralph Finnes was great too. All of them, too hard to pick just one who was the best. Should win for overall best ensemble cast at least, at least!
Please answer my question(superficial I know) but can you answer and vote for your best dressed.
Best wishes fellow Harry Potter fan. They will be missed but will live on in our hearts forever as well as on film, paper, & audio. I miss not having one to look forward to this year. I hope one day she will write one about them as older wizards and their children at Hogwarts and their new adventures & new nemesis.

BQ- top 10 of 2011 so far?
BQ2- thoughts on the Golden Globe nominations? I like them, predictable for the most part. love that Owen Wilson got nominated
http://www.imdb.com/oscars/nominations/golden-globes
BQ3- most anticipated films for 2012?
BQ4- most anticipated films beyond 2012?
BQ5- Ive asked this already (what else is new?), but what do you want for Christmas?
Answer: I've been trying to catch up as much as I can, but I have some personal stuff going on right now, so I haven't had much time.
Before January ends, I plan on dishing out a lot of money to the theater. The Descendants, Hugo, Young Adult, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are my main priorites, movie wise.
I'm going to buy Beginners, Another Earth, Win Win, Crazy Stupid Love, Warrior, Terri, Attack The Block, and The Guard probably with money I get for Christmas, as most of my paycheck goes to bills.
I want to see Shame and Take Shelter the most, but I don't believe they're playing around me, so I'm screwed until the Blu-Ray comes out, or until I can find them online. Same with Martha Marcy May Marlene.
There's also We Need To Talk About Kevin, The Iron Lady, Extremely Loud, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, A Dangerous Method, and all the earlier films of the year that I've forgotten about.
My goal is to see everything by the end of Febuary, when the Oscars and Indie Spirits are on. I'm going to be poor by the time I'm done seeing everything, lol.
BQ: My top ten looks like sh*t right now but whatever - here it is.
50/50
Drive
Midnight in Paris
Super 8
Rampart
Margin Call
The Adjustment Bureau
Melancholia
Bridesmaids
The Lincoln Lawyer
BQ2: Not feeling them at all. No Breaking Bad for Best Drama? If Owen Wilson wins, though, I'll be extremely happy, although I feel these awards are worthless.
BQ3: Moonrise Kingdom, Django Unchained, The Silver Linings Playbook, Being Flynn, Seeking A Friend For The End of The World, Cogan's Trade. I'm not entirely sure what all is coming out, though. I'll have to hit up good 'ol IMDb later.
BQ4: At-Swim-Two-Birds, Burt Wonderstone, Scorsese's films, Kill Bill, Vol. 3, Queer, Nebraska, and one of my most anticipated has to be Oren Moverman's next film. There's so many, haha.
BQ5: Gift card to a movie theater? All the DVDs I named? Yeah that's about it.

New Oscar Category Suggestion; what do you think?
I think that there should be a category called "Best Commercial Picture" . If a film is released in 3000 theaters it automatically qualifies for nomination. However, a director can opt to remove the picture from consideration, so that it can be qualified for "Best Picture". That way there will be a fair way to vote for pictures that are commercial success.
------------------------------------------
For instance here are the 2009 movies. Probably none of them have a shot at "Best Picture" but it would make the ceremony more interesting.
------------------------------------------
2012
17 Again
A Christmas Carol (2009)
Aliens in the Attic
Angels & Demons
Astro Boy
Bride Wars
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Couples Retreat
District 9
Fame (2009)
Fast and Furious
Friday the 13th (2009)
Funny People
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
G-Force
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Halloween II (2009)
Hannah Montana The Movie
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Hes Just Not That Into You
Hotel for Dogs
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Imagine That
Inglourious Basterds
Knowing
Land of the Lost
Michael Jacksons This Is It
Monsters Vs. Aliens
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
Old Dogs
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Planet 51
Public Enemies
Race to Witch Mountain
Saw VI
Shorts
Star Trek
Taken
Terminator Salvation
The Blind Side
The Final Destination
The Hangover
The Pink Panther 2
The Proposal
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Up
Watchmen
Where the Wild Things Are
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Year One
Zombieland
=================================================
FOR INSTANCE here are the 2008 nominees for Best Picture. Had "Benjamin Button" been released in 3000 theaters, the director could have opted not to include it in "Best Commercial Picture" so it qualifies for nomination for the more prestigous prize of "Best Picture".
-------------------
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button|2,988
Slumdog Millionaire|614
The Reader|507
Milk|356
Frost/Nixon|205
The idea is not to pick the "Best commercial Picture", it is just a way to limit the field in a fair non-biased way. Then actors will submit nominations and vote for the best one.
=============
The "Best Picture" top 5 nomination list will probably look something like:
1) Precious: Based on the Novel "Push"
2) Invictus
3) The Lovely Bones
4) An Education
5) A Serious Man
--------------
All excellent films that have fairly limited distribution. Not many people will see these films.
They are increase the Best Picture nomination to 10 this year in the hope that some commercially successful pictures will get nominated. However, if "UP" or "STAR TREK" or "DISTRICT 9" gets nominated for Best Picture it still wont win. I think there should be a new category.
-------------
I like the "young actor" award idea. It will get more viewers excited.
I think that they are "cheapening" the award by increasing it to 10 nominations. They want some big budget films to get nominated so more people watch the TV show. However, they wont beat the best of the smaller art house films. I think it would be better to have a commercial category. However, only 5 years ago there was successful films on the nomination list. Even some that won BP. That is why you need a simple way to distinguish, and a way for a director to choose to compete for the more prestigious prize if he chooses.
I would think the likely nominees for "Commercial Best Picture" would be:
-----------------------
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
District 9
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Inglourious Bastards
Star Trek
Up
---------------------------
It is possible that the director of "Up" may choose to withdraw eligibility so that it can be nominated for "best picture".
Answer: Hmm.. i see what your saying but in all honesty i don't agree. The Oscars are about recognising excellence in films, it's not about how much money they made or how many cinema's it was released in, it's the quality of the film and the acting, cinematography, direction etc. Things like Hannah Montana make a lot of money because of their large audience and fandom but the actually films are not really done that well in terms of Oscar worthy movies. If a film deserves an Oscar i think there are enough categories for it to fit into. Quite a lot of Oscar nominees have nominations in several categories because the how excellent the film is the it shows excellence in many areas. I think a best commercial picture award would draw away from the purpose of the Awards. There are already enough facts and figures showing how many cinemas they released in, how much money they made etc. why tarnish a prestigious award by letting it go to poorly made films?

What do you think of Michelle Williams playing the role of Marilyn Monroe in a new film?
Source: http://nz.movies.yahoo.com/news/article/-/8101452/michelle-williams-to-play-marilyn-monroe-in-movie/
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michelle Williams will play Marilyn Monroe in a new movie based around the iconic actresss 1956 film shoot in London opposite Sir Laurence Olivier, producers said on Friday.
Williams, 30, who earned an Oscar nomination for her 2005 role in "Brokeback Mountain" and also appeared in "Shutter Island", stars as Monroe alongside a British cast that sees Kenneth Branagh as Olivier, Julia Ormond playing actress Vivien Leigh and Judi Dench in the role of British screen veteran Dame Sybil Thorndike.
"My Week with Marilyn" chronicles a week in the life of Monroe as she escapes her Hollywood routine and is introduced to the pleasures of 1950s Britain by an assistant on the set of "The Prince and the Showgirl".
British actor Derek Jacobi, and young stars Dominic Cooper and Emma Watson of "Harry Potter" fame, will also appear, with Simon Curtis directing.
Work on the co-production between BBC Films, Trademark Films and the Weinstein Company has already started at Britains Pinewood Studios, producers said.
The movie is the second planned film treatment of Monroe -- still one of the worlds best-known sex symbols more than 40 years after her death.
Australian Naomi Watts is due to play Monroe in the Hollywood movie "Blonde" based on U.S. writer Joyce Carol Oates 2000 fictional biography of the star. "Blonde" is expected to start shooting in early 2012.
BQ: What do you think of Naomi Watts playing her as well?
Answer: Some like it hot! Wonder if Michelle will get a "presidential staff"....hehehe

Should we have a wide release "best picture" Oscar?
In the last four years an Oscar nomination for best picture is likely to be a small serious art-house drama , probably with an R rating (4 out 5 nominations for the last four years were rated R). Some of these films are deeply personal.
---------------------
But the industry is driven by fantasy, childrens movies, romance, horror, comedy, action and sometimes (adult comedy). The mainstay was a PG-13 movie. Out of 516 movies released this year there were 59 movies released in more than 3000 theaters sometimes called wide - release movies.
---------------
It is difficult to impossible for one of these movies to get nominated anymore, let alone win. It wast that many years ago that #1 box office movies like Lord of the Rings were not only getting nominated but winning.
---------------
They are increasing the number of nominations from 5 to 10 this year so that hopefully some wide - release films get nominated, but it does not increase the likeihood that Disney Pixars "UP" is going to beat some small violent art house film.
---------------
Should we have a new Oscar category called "best wide release picture"? Or are we just wasting our time?
Here are the wide releases in order of critical success. Obviously there are some very popular films like Transformer II are near the bottom of the list. Some movies like Zombieland were critical success but were not commercial successes.

-----------
I think the Oscars need a second award if films like this keep getting nominated for best picture.
Answer: The reason the art films are winning is because everyone was crying after LOTR and Braveheart and Gladiator and other blockbusters kept winning. This is a reaction to that. And it's stupid.

Mike Huckabee...how do you supporters explain this?
http://www.theage.com.au/lifestyle/people/mike-huckabee-condemns-natalie-portman-for-glamourising-single-motherhood-20110307-1bk35.html
"Mike Huckabee, a likely Republican contender for the 2012 nomination, has condemned Oscar winner Natalie Portman for "glamourising" single motherhood with an "out of wedlock" pregnancy."
Can Michael Huckabee say "Bristol Palin?" Natalie Portman works hard for her money, I thought thats what Republicans are all about? And at least Natalie didnt shake her booty on national TV.
I guess single motherhood is good if your mother is Republican, hmmmmm?
@Bulldog--lets try this again, since your "answer" is really a question and against community guidelines. How do Huckabee supporters explain this? John Edwards, scumbag of the century, has nothing to do with this question. Thank you.
Answer: I'd just like to point out that Ms. Portman is engaged to be married to the father of her as-yet unborn child, and so using her as an occasion for discussing the "glamourising" of single motherhood is at best premature and at worst specious.
If Mr. Huckabee thinks that being a financially independent Yale graduate isn't what single mothers should aspire to, I'd like to know what he does.

The OSCAR nominee list are in!!?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/82nd_Academy_Awards#Nominees_and_winners
Though Im really disappointed by the nominees.
I cant believe that Stanley Tucci made the cut for best supporting actor nominee considering that Lovely Bones got lukewarm reviews by critics and same to Peneleope Cruz of Nine for best supporting actress, I mean, how did she get there?
And I was in shock that 2012 was not nominated for best visual effects, like SERIOUSLY?!?!
and probably the reason was 2012 is a bad movie and shouldnt deserve a nomination.
But how come Stanley Tucci and Penelope Cruz was nominated but Lovely Bones and Nine also got bad reviews!?
Im so disappointed..i want reasons :)
Answer: I'm happy for Jeremy Renner he finally got nominated, his performence was gr8 in the hurt locker.
And as for Stanley Tucci and Penelope Cruz they did a solid acting. It doesn't matter if the movie got bad reviews.
And c'mon 2012 was a joke.

Oh come! Does Heath Ledger deserve an Oscar nomination for that pathetic Joker performance?
I mean, he practically raped the character, had no humor(other than the pencil trick...the only time I remember laughing), and did that weird lip smacking thing. Geez, milk you death for all sympathy you can Ledger.
DRAGON 2012
"Great fortune for U.S."
Tell me, what was so damned good about it? Seriously, tell me. What impressed you so much?
Sinister....sinister? He looked like he rolled out of a trash bag!
Never said I was an actor. I can list several people bette than Ledger. Jack Nicholson, Cesar Romero, and Mark Hamill.
Answer: No, Heath Ledger doesn't deserve an Oscar for such a poor performance. Jack Nicholson was much better as the Joker. Both Joker and Batman had such silly affected voices that I could hardly understand them. The movie was a major disappointment after all the hype. Many people can't think for themselves and just mindlessly repeat what critics write. Critics raved about this movie, so few people can see that it was terrible. I don't see anything good about the movie, and the joker wasn't sinister, just pathetic. H.L. Mencken asked who wanted to read what dumb critics said about movies. He had a good point.

How do you feel about Woody Harrelson?
I only really started getting into him this year, but since then, Ive been a huge fan, and he has become one of my favorite actors.
I think it would be easy for him to get typecasted, because of the way he looks, but hes actually pretty versatile. Here are some of his roles, taken from Wikipedia.
"Some notable film characters include basketball hustler Billy Hoyle in White Men Cant Jump, bowler Roy Munson in Kingpin, serial killer Mickey Knox in Natural Born Killers, magazine publisher Larry Flynt in The People vs. Larry Flynt, country singer Dusty in A Prairie Home Companion, bounty hunter Carson Wells in No Country for Old Men, zombie killer Tallahassee in Zombieland, blind piano player/meat salesman Ezra Turner in Seven Pounds, conspiracy nut Charlie Frost in 2012, a delusional man who believes that he is a superhero named Defendor in Defendor and Cpt. Tony Stone in The Messenger."
That is extremely impressive, in my opinion. He recently added another fantastic performance to his already great catalog with "Rampart", which could be his most complex character yet. Im very much hoping he gets a third Oscar-nomination for that performance.
I cant wait to see how he portrays a dog-loving gangster in Martin McDonaghs next film. It could easily become his best role yet, I think.
MQ2: Top ten favorite films that he appears in?
BQ: Can you think of an actor who won an Oscar for their first ever movie role?
Answer: Woody Harrelson is excellent. I try to see everything he's in. Very Versatile.
- No certain order.

* Natural Born Killers
* White Men Can't Jump
