How do you think The Hunger Games will fare as a film?
Its a popular series, and by the looks of the poster:
http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/hunger-games-exclusive-motion-poster-revealed-155258074.html
its in-keeping with the theme and story. Im really looking forward to it, and it may do really well in the box office given the popularity of the books and the actors who have been attached to the roles (Donald Sutherland as President Snow, for example).
What do you think?
Edit: cast list
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392170/
Answer: Considering that Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay herself this should fair pretty well and the actors don't suck either!

Do you think The Hunger Games will trump the Twilight series?
From what Ive seen so far "tributes" or Hunger Games fans seem to be just as crazy about that series if not more than Twilight fans and more are bound to join our ranks after the movies start up.
I dont expect the box office of the Hunger Games movies to get anywhere near the Harry Potter but maybe might even challenge LOTR. But the main thing I want it to be is Twilight in the box office. Do you think it will?
Answer: Yes, because the hunger games are awesome. Aha, no but really, I think it appeals to more to all audiences rather than just a certain age group. March 23rd! :D

Why are there no Hunger Games midnight premier showings in my area?
I live in northern MD and the tickets went on sale yesterday. Yet I cant find any theaters that are showing a midnight premier of it in my area.
I am so pissed off right now because these theatres even arent selling advance tickets for the opening day! Im a huge fan of the books and really want to go to this.
Is this meaning that this isnt going to be a big deal in the box office? I see all these advertisements on fandango, youtube, and all the movies sites yet why is there nothing for it.
My friends say that it is going to end up being a minor movie because they arent advertising it on television like they did with Twilight and Harry Potter.
So what the hell is going on??????????/
Answer: I don't know, but I am in the same boat as you. I live near a major city and none of the theaters have midnight showings listed. It doesn't even look like most of them have it showing on multiple screens, because each one of them only has four times available on the first day. I remember new Harry Potters would always have a bunch of times available because they would have it showing on multiple screens. I am so disappointed.

Twilight vs. Hunger Games?
For me, no competition. TWILIGHT. But I still love the hunger games. I would say I only like it, but theres one reason why I say love: PEETA MELLARK. *sigh* Peeta is just the sweetest character. The only other character I like in the series is Haymitch. Hes so hilarious. Katniss...the only main character in a book that Ive ever hated. Reasons? Shes okay with killing others. Sure its for a competition to survive but I would have refused to be a tribute and let the damn peacemakers shoot me. Id rather die quickly than to have some crazed career stab me to death. Another reason I hate Katniss: Shed rather marry Gale than Peeta. WHY?!?!? Gale seems irrelevant to me because the only time I heard him speak a lot was in chapter one of the first book. Now, Im only on 26 of catching fire and I havent read mockingjay yet, so if Im wrong dont kill me. Peeta however, is better to Katniss than she deserves. At least she realizes it though. Anyway about the movies...I know that if loyal HG fans go see it, the movie will be big in the box office. It may even beat twilight. If it does, I will die. First of all, Catherine Hardwicke? Can you hear me? I HATE YOU. Shes the worst director in the history of directors. But its not entirely her fault. The budget for twilight was SO low they couldnt even afford decent quality. And it still owned its opening weekend. Now, Im sure that the HG has an excellent director (dont know who it is) and I know it has about $100million in its budget. Um, unfair for twilight fans much? Everyone is saying that the HG will be even more popular than twilight and HP, which I doubt. Even though Im not a HP fan, that thing went on for like ten years. And the last two twilights are gonna be directed by Bill Conden, so how amazing do you think those will be? But if the HGs are more popular than twilight, I will die.
*Note: Sorry lol I put this in the wrong category*
Answer: I choose The Hunger Games.
It's strategic, brilliantly thought out, the writing style is one that just hooks you so much, the characters are (for pretty much everyone else in the world) likable and easy to sympathize with, and it's a great romance-within-a-suspenseful-drama.
As far as the books go, Twilight is pretty okay. I've read all the books of both series, and Twilight is more like a high that wears off after a while. I think I'll always have the same feelings about the Hunger Games.
Plus, the romance in Twilight just seems too fake to me now. There was no romance-building between Bella and Edward- no real reason for them to love each other, other than the fact that they DID. The romance in Hunger Games is so believable and logical, whereas in Twilight, they just fell in love because *that was the whole plot*.
Edit: Peeta is so friggin yummy, I agree. Ahh~ love him. <3 My best friend read it and loved Gale, and we got into a screaming fight (at school) about who was better. It was so awesome. ^ w ^

March 2012 box office predictions?
Which movie of the following to open this March do you think will have the best box office run and the worst box office run?: Project X, The Lorax, A Thousand Words, John Carter, Silent House, 21 Jump Street, The Hunger Games, Mirror Mirror, and Wrath of the Titans. I predict that the least successful will be A Thousand Words, because family comedies with Eddie Murphy tend to underperform (Some examples would be Imagine That which opened with $5.5 million and closed at $16.1 million or Meet Dave opening with $5.3 million and closing agt $11.8 million), and my prediction for top grossing movie of March 2012 would have to be The Hunger Games, because I heard that ticket sales have been going through the roof for that movie. What are your predictions?
Answer: I do agree with you on the top grossing, with the news that Hunger Games showings are sold out already, not to mention adding in that Hunger Games will have the first trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 2, it will be a mob scene just to get in there.
Worst movie...I would also agree with you just on the fact that, Project X has probably the biggest advertising ever seen, Lorax is a good child movie, John Carter is Disney, so it will do mediocre, 21 Jump street will have girls and guys going for Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, but you will also have the older crowd going to see the re-vamp of a great TV show from the 80s (need I mention the Johnny Depp cameo). Mirror Mirror will have the standard Julia Roberts following, plus some extra for the appeal of a fairy tale type movie, and Wrath of the Titans will probably bring in a huge number at least it's first week just for the fact the first movie did well.

What do you think the new Hunger Games movie is going to do in the box office?
Do you think its gonna flop like Legend of the Guardians and Eragon?
Or soar like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings?
Answer: It's unfair to compare it to HP considering the YEARS of fandom that one's had.
Also not as many boys have read the Hunger Games due to the love triangle aspect. I think it'll be very successful but prone to be hated one, since many ignorant people who havent read the books will think its the next Twilight. It also has a very good cast! Jennifer Lawrence is academy-award nominated for Winter's Bone, Liam was in Last Song, Josh Hutcherson has been around forevvvvvver. And Lenny Kravitz and Woody Harrelson? Like come on!

A Year of Disappointment At the Movie Box Office
LOS ANGELES -- With five days left in 2011, ticket sales in North America are running about $500 million behind last year -- despite higher prices -- prompting a round of soul searching by studios trying to determine what went wrong and how best to proceed. Movies are a cyclical business and analysts say that 2010 benefited mightily from holdover - North American movie ticket revenue for 2011 is projected to be about $10.1 billion, down 4.5 percent from 2010; attendance is expected to drop 5.3 percent, to 1.27 billion; studio executives are alarmed, in part because the real picture is worse than the raw revenue numbers suggest. Hunger Games Rant, you dont have to read, I just need to get it out?
Now I know The HG movie hasnt came out yet but Im already hating it and here is why:
The actors ages: OMG when i see the promo pictures theyre all in their twenties and well in the books the tributes are 12 to 18 which is what makes it so terrible. 24 kids battle in it (The Hunger Games) and thats what makes it so bad, because theyre so young. But when I see Jen and Josh I dont actually mind because theyre so old looking. But if you imagined it with kids Id be horrified how gruesome it is and I personally thing their ages is an important plot key.
Peeta: I thought Josh couldve done good good but the promo pics are terrible. Peeta in my mind was sweet and he had those icy blue eyes that made me like him so much. So Peetas pissing me off. Plus I wish they made Peeta a little skinnier and taller, only a little.
The outfits and their images: When they didnt follow the outfits and thats annoys me for some reason and they arent as scratched up or hurt looking. They kinda just look dirty like when you fall in Tug-o-War. Also Katniss shouldve been edited to look skinnier because Katniss was better fed than most but she was still darn skinny.
The planning: Lionsgate is ridiculous. Theyre gonna make four movies when they couldve fit into 2 and already planned Catching Fires release date. LIKE WTF! They dont even know how the first movie is gonna go and theyve already decided that???? Like seriously THG isnt probably gonna get bad box-office but what happens if it flunks. All the stupid planning for nothing, and that ticks me off.
The actors: I think the actors are ugly, nuff said except maybe Jen shes pretty but I dont like her as Katniss
Cinna: ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS CINNA IS NOT BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My rant is over. And this is how I express myself :)
Answer: YOU VOICED MY THOUGHTS...........I LOVE YOU.........!

The Hunger Games question?
okay, so I seriously dont think the movie will be as big as everyone says it will be. I mean, I personally dont think itll be breaking Harry Potters or Twilights records. Way too much hype for it and itll bomb the box office. Itll be #1 for a week, and then "Mirror Mirror" will come out and become #1. your thoughts on my predictions?
Answer: I saw a trailer for that movie, but I am unfamiliar with it. I believe it's based on a popular book. I haven't read the book, and I don't think I'll be watching the movie either. It doesn't look interesting, but it seems like it will be a big hit among teens and young adults. You're right..... nothing will be able to beat Harry Potter, at least not for a long time. That movie has made about 7 billion worldwide.
This Hunger Games movie might make a lot of money though....I'm guessing the average amount that most blockbusters make ($500 million - maybe $900 million)

Hunger Games or Mortal Instruments Series?
Both series are great and both are in the process of being made into movies. Jennifer Lawrence has been cast as Katniss and Josh Hutchinson will be Peeta. Meanwhile, Lily Collins will be Clary Fray, and Jamie Campbell Bower was just recently cast as Jace Wayland.
A few questions:
1. Which series do you like better? Why?
2. Which movie are you more excited for?
3. Do you agree with the casting of either movies? Who would you cast?
4. Which movie do you think will be more successful in the box office?
5. Any other comments/opinions?
Answer: 1. Which series do you like better? Why?
That's a hard question. I haven't read the Hunger Games series in awhile, though. The thing is I like them both in different ways. The Hunger Games was a totally original concept and it was written in such a way that it kept you on your toes throughout the book. The Hunger Games owns the Mortal Instruments series when it comes to description, detail, and writing, drawing you in from every page. The characters are realistic. It has a totally different mood to it than MI. However, I feel like the other books in the series are not up to par with the original. That being said Mortal Instruments definitely has the advantage on Hunger Games when it comes to dialogue. It's vastly entertaining and the romance is more developed than it is in the Hunger Games. The action comes in the form of multiple plot twists that also keep you on your toes. Most of the characters are also realistic and hilarious (Clary could be a bit more fleshed out, but Jace's character is superbly written) and the world Clare creates is fun to read about. I'm a fan of both series.
2. Which movie are you more excited for?
This is also a hard question. I'm excited for both, but I'm actually a little more excited for the Mortal Instruments series just because I always thought it would be a perfect movie and my wish is finally coming true! If done right, the MI movie could be awesome. I'm also interested to see how the Hunger Games movie plays out on screen as well what with all the killing and such. They have a great slew of actors and that movie also has the potential to be great.
3. Do you agree with the casting of either movies? Who would you cast?
Josh Hutchinson isn't really how I pictured Peeta, but I can deal with it. In my opinion, Jennifer Lawrence will make an awesome awesome Katniss! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/18/the-hunger-games-jennifer-lawrence-katniss_n_863792.html. Lily Collins wasn't my first choice as Clary Fray, but I have a feeling she'll do great. Especially since she is also a major fan of the series and seems to know a lot about Clary's personality. Jamie Campbell Bower...Ehhhh. I was hoping for more of an unknown. He does not look like my version of Jace at all according to google pictures. But I am reassured by Cassie Clare that he will do great. I mean if the author believes he IS jace, who are we to argue? http://cassandraclare.livejournal.com/55076.html I'm glad it's not Alex Pettyfer, though. He may look like Jace, but he can barely act to save his life.
4. Which movie do you think will be more successful in the box office?
Hunger Games, definitely. More people know of the series, they have more fans, and it is more hyped up. MI won't do horribly in the box office, though, since they also have a decent amount of fans who are just as vocal.
5. Any other comments/opinions?
Both of these franchises could be amazing because the books have so much to offer. They also could be screwed up like most movie to book franchises. I hope that does not happen.
@Rocket Lawnchair- I agree with you somewhat. In City of Fallen Angels a lot of the things which I thought were resolved already (Jace thinking he's not good enough and blah) were brought up again and that pissed me off because I thought Clare ended the series perfectly in City of Glass. Clare's argument is that Jace still needs to come to terms with not being like Valentine by himself without Clary's help, but I was disappointed that they were back to that. Plus the 4th book was kind of lacking in the hilarious dialogue that I loved in the other 3. I'm really basing my overall opinion of the series off of the first 3 books.
