Hello - My husband and I are planning to go to NO for the Jazz festival this year. I am looking for suggestions on where to stay as far as area (i.e. French Quarter) and which hotel. Were staying from April 26 - May 4, so I am also looking for advice on the best way to book a hotel to get the best price on travel sites (i.e. should I break the trip up rather than searching for the entire 8 night stay at once?)

Answer: The gates to the Fairgrounds open at 11:00am. If it is really important to you, locate the stage where Tim Mcgraw will play and "stake out" a spot. People do that with a blanket, but someone has to stay with the blanket as there will probably be other performances before Tim McGraw is on stage. Otherwise you take your chances.

Its the end of April I think, maybe in May too. Are the tickets expensive, and where to stay? Where to get a cheap flight? Any other tips?
Answer: Check out www.nojazzfest.com: The website has the dates, ticket prices, and info on airline & hotel discounts. The festival is held at the Fairgrounds, which is a track for horse racing. The Fairgrounds is NOT within realistic walking distance of downtown and parking a car at or close to JazzFest is impractical. There are no hotels close to the Fairgrounds. Many hotels offer a shuttle to jazzFest and taxis are available.Public transit (see www.norta.com) should be able to get you to within medium walking distance of the Fairgrounds. Bicycling would work if the Fairgrounds has somewhere to secure your bike (call & ask if you might do that). New Orleans' weather is typically warm to hot by the end of April, so wear light cotton clothes + comfortable shoes and bring sunblock + insect repellent. It may rain so be prepared for that.

Going to JAZZ FEST in New Orleans but flying to Lafayette?

Does anyone know how easy it is to take a bus from Lafayette Airport to New Orleans? Im trying to avoid renting a car. But I dont want to get stranded when I arrive late in the evening. Other suggestions? Maybe a ride board for Jazz fest goers? Thanks
Answer: it is about 2 hours 10 minutes. You can take a greyhound bus or amtrak. You can get on a greyhound bus at 10:45 pm but it takes longer to get there like 7 hours. You could just rent it and then return it at the new orleans airport when you get there. 5-8 friends want to find an affordable rental home for Jazz fest in New Orleans. Any recommendations for neighborhoods, things to watch out for, etc? Ive heard some mixed reviews on vrbo.com - as in people getting ripped off. I havent been for 10 years, but looking for something that may be accessible to transportation and safe for a house full of mostly women.

What is a good hotel to stay at in New Orleans for JAZZ FEST?

We are looking for a place where you can keep your car safe and walk everywhere you want to go. Possibly locally owned. Not too expensive. Around $100-$150 per night. 3-4 people are going. Were going down for Jazz, crawfish and drinking.
Answer: The JazzFest is held at the Fairgrounds, which is not within realistic walking distance of downtown, There are are not any hotels close to the Fairgrounds. Best is to stay at a hotel in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. That was you are within walking distance of everything downtown. There is limited parking at the Fairgounds. DO NOT try to park in the neighborhoods arounf the Fairgrounds. The area is safe, but scores of Parking Control Agents and dozens of Parking Control tow trucks will be combing the area looking for illegally parked cars to take to the impound lot. It is a residential neighborhood and the residents have complained for decades about cars blocking their driveways, etc. during JazzFest so the City responded with "zero tolerance" parking enforcement.
